I’ve only been here for coffee, but the café has very good atmosphere, service and full bar. Unfortunately they do not carry any espresso based drinks. This place can be considered a bar with entertainment and not really a café, but they do have sandwiches. Their coffee is really good, especially black, but beside the coffee the café is a good gathering place with friends.

Sorry to say this but Pregunta is now closed. RIP Pregunta I’ve gone to many a party here and I even had some banging latin food here. I will miss Pregunta.

Met a friend attending CUNY here the other day to catch up. I wasn’t all that impressed with the food or the drink I ordered, but it was edible. I didn’t use the free wi-fi but determined that it was there. The atmosphere of the place struck me as conducive to getting some studying done, but maybe not quite settled enough for the fiction writing crowd. I wouldn’t make a special trip over here, but would drop in if I found myself in the area.

I went with a group of friends today but I didn’t get the chance to find out how they liked their food as I left in a hurry because I had class in a few minutes when my food was done being prepared. I ordered a Zapata and honestly for $ 5, it was nothing really special. It’s definitely something I could have come up with at home. The taste and flavor just okay. It was pretty bland and had nothing really special to it. I kind of like the simplistic atmosphere of the café. It’s a nice and pretty quiet place to study nearby CCNY if you’re a student there and don’t want to be in a library setting.

I have to agree with the reviewer below, who saw a roach crawling around(i saw one too). The place has some charm because there are almost no other hang outs near City College. But, in my opinion, wouldn’t that be a reason to make it ultra-fantastic and really draw in the local student/artsy crowd? The tables are small, chairs are hard and wooden(like sitting at a graduation). There seems to be one red sectional couch that has been broken into 3 pieces and dispersed around the lounge. On a recently hot and humid day, the climate was the same inside the restaurant as it was outside. For all the negative above, I rated the place low. But my 2 stars are for the excellent service(friendly and quick) and the nice music(was R & B ish both times I was there). Also, the bathroom was nice as well.

Sorry Pregunta Café, but I had to dock you one star. Things are starting to go a little downhill for you. No espresso machine? Still? You changed the bread on the sandwiches… it has kind of a cheap, gross feeling now. Service has gotten a bit too slow to be overlooked. No matter how friendly you are to your customers, they are here to order food and drinks. It would be nice if they got what they order within twenty minutes or so. But the MAIN reason why I docked one star: I was quite shocked to notice that all purchases that I’ve made with my debit card at your establishment within the past month have JUST gone through on my bank statement, wiping out quite a large chunk of cash. What kind of establishment waits a month before processing all of their customers credit/debit card purchases?

Fantastic place for tasty food and a chilled atmosphere. The staff is friendly and down-to-Earth, and the service is pretty good. Fortunately, the place is never full; so it’s great for enjoying the interesting art pieces on the walls and listening to some nice jazz/blues tunes. The food is pretty tasty; particularly the specialty sandwiches! My favorite is the Lula: panini with chicken, red-peppers, and avocado with a tasty mayo spread. Get the special fries and one of the Mexican sodas on the side for a light and flavorful lunch(around $ 12). If you’re on a budget, they probably have more student-friendly selections. The area doesn’t look too posh, but don’t be turned off by that; this place is a real gem!

La Pregunta is a gem in Hamilton Heights. I’m so glad I found a place close to home with some great live music. Caught a jazz trio here on a Saturday night with a friend. The only downside was that the place was deserted. Maybe it was just an off night? Either way, I had a great glass of mint iced tea(the real thing) and a homemade oatmeal raisin cookie(also the real thing). The live music provided by CCNY students was first rate. They also have interesting salads and sandwiches. I once ordered delivery from La Pregunta and had the excellent Lula sandwich. Anything with hearts of palm is aces in my book. Two disappointments: I originally ordered the Albizu because I didn’t want meat, and they were out of it. This was especially confusing because this is probably the simplest item on the menu(bread, julienned vegetables, mango chutney). Also, the order took about 40 minutes to arrive. Not so speedy for 5 sandwiches traveling one block. If you’re not in a hurry, this place is great. It’s a cool place to relax and contemplate life, socialism, or whatever strikes your fancy, but expect to work on your posture. The chairs look charming but provide very little back support. No pain no gain, I guess.

La Pregunta Arts Café is indeed an artsy café. You know what I mean: they have the handwritten menu on the wall and the flimsy(but wooden — nice) tables and chairs. They have tasty sangria in a big glass container, and other drinks that sound better and more interesting than they taste(the Coco Loco). But the vibe is nice and laid back. Everyone’s your friendly comrade:-), and there was good Columbian folk music from my friend’s band. My «Che» sandwich. That’s right my «Che» sandwich was pretty good but didn’t need the overly mushy mushrooms. But artsys like mushrooms and, generally speaking, unnecessary vegetables! Hangout here when you are feeling artsy of course!

Pregunta is a cool joint near where I used to live. You can get sandwiches named after Cuban revolutionaries. One time I was here sketching and I eavesdropped on a couple of snooty college kids, one of which was trying to convince the other to stop smoking crack. One of them(the crack-smoker) said he liked one of the art pieces, and like an idiot I looked up at the painting he pointed at. I got caught! You shouldn’t smoke crack though. This is a good café, and it was always surprisingly empty. I never saw one of their socialist forums or art readings, but I’ll bet they would have been okay-to-decent.

Pros: — Homemade food. — Live music. — Casual and nice atmosphere. — WiFi Cons: — WiFi is inconsistent. They had problems with their phone connection and even the ATM machine would be down as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Experience: I just ate here today with my boyfriend and it’s definitely a comfortable and convenient spot. A fairly new place. A place where my friends and I go frequently. It’s right across the street from City College on Amsterdam… and the only place like this within the area. The menu is simple and the food tastes all homemade. I ordered a Strawberry/Pineapple Smoothie with a Chimi Burger(which is a homemade burger patty in a dinner roll with cabbage and carrots). Don’t knock it till you try it. It’s a venue to have quick lunches during the day, have happy hour drinks after work, and listen to live music and comedy at night. They have happy hour every Mon-Fri 5−7pm. I really want to see this business do well and be around for a long time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: Update as of 9÷27÷2011 Came here to grab a bite to eat and discovered that this place was closed down after only being opened for 2 years. =(

La Pregunta is the hot spot for a drink, and some good spoken word. I love it and you will too. Conveniently located right across from City College La Pregunta is for everyone that wants to chill, listen to spoken word, eat some good grub and meet some great people. La Pregunta means The Question and they will point you in the right direction to help cultivate your mind to find the answers with the people they bring in to share their own on spoken word nights. I love this place and it is guaranteed at the end of the day to leave a smile on your face, vibrant on rainy days entertaining all walks of life, while peers peer in to see what’s happening curious faces hungry minds meet at La Pregunta(The Question). Check out my new favorite place.

Good sandwiches, though I’m really partial to the mirabal fries. The desserts are also definitely worth it. The wifi is free and functional, the service is friendly, and they have a few bottled beers as well. A really good hang out spot, and during the off-hours there’s space to get work done. There are only two things keeping it from being perfect. First, they don’t take credit cards, which isn’t a big deal but I’ve skipped going there because I left my cash at home. Second, the stools aren’t the right height for the long desks at the window seats and it makes eating or working there kind of uncomfortable. Small issues with an otherwise great place.

This place is a gem. Situated directly across from CCNY, La Pregunta opens early and serves the best cup of café for around a buck and half. In a real cup mind you! In the AM you can sit and enjoy your coffee and use their free wifi but around lunch business picks up. The menu is named from revolutionaries and Latin heroes and sheroes. The space is huge and eclectic with gorgeous and colorful art. It reminds me of the cafes in the Mission district in San Francisco or in along College in Berkeley, CA. In the evening, they offer a host of artistic events — from spoken word to film screenings with no cover most of the time. Worth dropping into to get an experience that you wouldn’t expect to find in that part of Harlem. Oh yeah, and they serve alcoholic selections as well.
