I second the review by Alexandra N – I wouldn’t trust them with anything important, especially as far as tailoring services. And, considering how recent her review is, we probably dealt with the same people. I went to them to fix a broken thread belt loop on a dress, a minor fix. They were not able to tell me upfront the cost; instead, they said they would call me and confirm the cost(it was $ 10) before taking any steps. I received no calls or even messages but the tailor went through with it anyway, without any confirmation from me. To make matters more interesting, somehow they lost the item, too. It had apparently been picked up by their dry cleaning folks. When they finally tracked it down a week later and I came in to pick it up, I found that they had fixed the thread belt loop(though not very neatly) but had also ironed the seam next to it at a higher heat than the dress could handle, effectively burning the dress and leaving an obvious seam line – it was a different color than the rest of the fabric. They refused to accept that the fabric did not look normal, claiming at one point that it could be dirt and suggesting it looked like this before I left it with them(I had evidence I had only recently purchased it). They said they had to keep it longer to investigate my complaint, but they couldn’t give any assurances to if or how they would help fix the issue. Basically, they wanted me to leave my dress with the same people who first lost it and then damaged it without any validation for whether or not that would help – the owner called this«helping» me multiple times. Very silly. With all of that said, I can see why Alexandra N felt that the guy who fitted her«seemed like he had never hemmed a dress in his life.» You’d think, as a place that provides services for and with clothing, they would understand fabrics better.

I came here to get a dress hemmed. As a 5’2 person, this is not my first rodeo when it comes to altering clothing. I was a bit turned off by the shoe shine station and smell of shoe polish but ignored my instinct. The guy who fitted me seemed like he had never hemmed a dress in his life. He used some strange machine I had never seen before to blow a chalk-like substance the full circumference of my dress. He then asks, is that good? I ask him if he’s going to pin it up so I can see what it looks like(as every other tailor I have ever used has done). He said no despite there being a whole bowl full of pins right there. So then I makeshift pin the dress up myself and see that it’s way too short. I tell him this and he again blows chalk at my dress an inch below the first line and asks, is it okay? I makeshift pin it up again and say okay, it’s fine. Well it wasn’t fine. I’m not sure which chalk line they actually used because he didn’t mark it or anything but now the dress is WAY to short and when I lift my arms you can see my tush. It was also a $ 30 job which seems like a lot for a simple hem. I will not be back and wouldn’t trust them with anything important.

Do not go here. I was super kind when both dresses I dropped off weren’t done correctly. One was still 5 inches too long & the other was a mess. They kindly offered to fix them only making the second dress worse. Unwearable. Despite this they wanted to charge me again. The second dress I had already paid $ 110 to fix. It barely cost that much to purchase! Now I’m stuck with a dress I can’t wear that in total I spent $ 100s on. This is my first Unilocal review because I’m that upset. They told me I needed extra things done to the dress, then ruined it. Then in the end, didn’t treat me like I would’ve treated a customer. I wouldn’t go here. Sadly, I just moved to the neighborhood and am 5’1″ so get most of my closed tailored and brought very good business to my former tailor on the UES… now I’ll toss the dress and find another tailor.

I can’t speak highly enough of the work done for me at la moda. I needed two suits tailored and it was not an easy job. The jackets were enormous and the sleeves too long. The pants needed to be hemmed and the crotch was baggy. The tailor, Ali, did an excellent job tailoring the fit to my preferences. It was clear to me that he knew what he was doing during the fitting but when I picked the suits up today and tried them on — it felt like putting on custom made suits. Ali was there while I tried both suits on to make sure I was satisfied — I’ll be happy to keep coming back and giving la moda my business. Thank you.

Came here to get a gown hemmed for my formal. I was a little worried about it because the dress was two different materials and had tiny little pleats on a chiffon type material, but they did a really good job. The end result was a clean looking hem, I think they called it a micro-hem, that was the perfect length. When you get there if it’s a dress they measure the hem with the dress on you to make sure the length is perfect all the way around. I also saw someone else getting a gown altered from top to bottom so it seems they do major alterations also which hopefully they do because I’ll be coming back here for a bridesmaid dress that needs some serious fixing. Don’t forget to bring your heels for dresses!

I arrived right at close as the owner had his keys in the door. He was happy to let me in and call the tailor back for measurements. The suits turned out perfectly. I would certainly return.

I have not been to the Manhattan location, but the work I had done in the Queens location was outstanding. I’m a short woman who really cannot wear petite sized clothing, but Michael made every piece fit to perfection. In addition, everyone at the shop was friendly, courteous and accommodating. I can highly recommend this business for excellent custom tailoring.
