This was near our hotel, so I swung by here to pick up some fruit on a weekend morning. The fruit was fine. My real issue is that a large swath of the food in this place does not have prices marked on it. That can be very misleading.

I was in a hurry to grab a bite to eat so I ran into this store and bought a roast beef wrap. It didn’t have a price tag and it came out to almost $ 12! I know it’s NYC but really? If it at least tasted good, I wouldn’t complain but it was the worst wrap I ever had… I will never go there again.

I like this place, I love their hot buffet in the back side, yes some things are expensive but hey, this is Manhattan. And the staff is friendly as well. Cheers.

Terrible place on all fronts. Trust me, I live around the corner and avoid it at all costs. SO remarkably expensive, products are not fresh and no one speaks English. Go somewhere else.

I must have walked past Klein 20 times before I went in. From the outside I assumed it was just another convenience store but in fact this is a full on grocery store that just keeps on going back. For the seven or so that have reviewed before me that all complain about the pricing — this is a grocery store on 55th Street and 6th Ave!!! What did you think the prices would be??? Until last week I worked in this neighborhood so this was my go to place for the oddball work/grocery store needs such as: the last minute birthday cake for co-workers, candy canes — because you never know when you will be in a dire need for these and the nearby Duane Reade didn’t have any, 16oz OJ for the office and when I started on a Greek yogurt fad Klein’s saved me from having to brown bag it. Their fruit is always fresh and delicious and they have many options to choose from. The store is well organized, always stocked, super convenient and diligently clean. The cashiers are efficient and always give plastic ware and napkins when you buy grab and go items. For all of these reasons I don’t mind donating towards their midtown rental fees.
It’s clean but too expensive. It’s owned by Key Food but rather than charge reasonable Key Food prices, they kept the name of the store before the acquisition and kept the prices up sky high. And I know they make the prices up. I bought some creamer there and the price of the pint was 3x more expensive than a quart of the same brand. They just make prices up here. To add to the insult, a lot of the goods are at or near expiration date. Just what you needed: overpriced, spoiled food in your fridge. The aisles are way too narrow and they put this stupid eat-in dining area by THEDAIRYCASE. I’ve never seen anyone in it. It’s a huge waste of space that isn’t monetized creating a further load on sales per sq. foot on the remainder of the store. Those dolts could start there to convert it back to groceries and bring the prices down more than a tad. One more thing: it’s not gourmet. It’s the same brands fround in any supermarket.

The first time I walked into their store about a year ago, I was accosted by multiple burly men who proceeded to bend me over to ensure that my bung was capable of enduring the ravaging Klein Ernest’s prices were about to do to me. Thank you, gentleman. I don’t think I could have survived the experience without you. To be fair, the place is UBER clean. The shelves are always fully stocked. The staff are beyond willing to help you. The soups are good and reasonably priced, though there are better options in the area. And there is a very large variety of whatever you’re looking to purchase. Fortunately they’re located right down the street from multiple banks where you can take out a small personal loan to be able to afford the Klein Ernest fare. I don’t know how they get away with these prices. To be in business this long, they must be capitalizing on tourists who don’t know better and business peops who don’t have the time to run up the street to less expensive markets. I pop in here from time to time just to see if, by a slim chance, they’re having a sale. But I’ve never seen one sale in the past year of regular pop-ins. Good presentation which is smartly executed for the area. But I personally think this place is a huge scam. Walk up 57th to Morton Williams or, better yet, take a crosstown or a nice walk to the Columbus Circle Whole Foods. Don’t waste your money on these exorbitant prices.
