My cousin & I stopped here for lunch on the way to The Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Cruise. The place was empty except for a party of 3 people, which was perfect since we were sort of a time constraint. The staff was courteous & answered all the questions we had about the menu. We ordered the Grilled Chicken Wrap & the Fish Tacos. Both were good servings. The grilled chicken wasn’t dry & the fries that came with it were really good since they were seasoned with garlic. The amount of fish in the tacos was a good amount; my tortillas were already ripping. I also got them grilled instead of beer-battered. The servings were definitely filling for us. They have a really big selection of beer which we did not get to try. They also have a «pour your own» option– you get a bracelet which allows you to choose beer from a selection of 6 or 7 beers and you pay by how much you pour. I’ll definitely be back to try that.

This place sucks. Poor service. Food is not good. Spoke to waitress about why we thought food was bad. Response was rude and made it seem like we had bad taste. There are much better places to go in this neighborhood. Do not go.

Must try the pineapple cider! Good wings and chill atmosphere, no pressure. Good choice of snacks from burgers to wraps and of course a classic homemade salty pretzel to go with the beer like the British

Really good location in a nice area. My wings were okay. My girlfriend got a California burger and said it was pretty good. The service left a lot to be desired though. We were there for lunch and it was less than half capacity, but there were two separate times where we didn’t see our waitress for 30 minutes. I had to go to the bar to close out our check.

Walked into Keg 229 around 5pm on a Monday evening after reading their sign about 50cent wings and pour your own beers. The bar just opened and looked very inviting. The bartender Diego was super friendly and knowledgable and took time to explain the awesome pour your own beer program they were doing. AWESOMEIDEA. We ordered the 50 cent wings which were very tasty and done right. The beer menu was plentiful and definitely had something for everyone. They also serve excellent whiskey and wine. After a few drinks we felt so comfortable we were talking about coming back with all of our friends. I’m glad to see this area is booming again after hurricane sandy and definitely will return to hang out with Diego and sit at the bar.

What more could you want from a bar? a. Great beer selection that rotates b. Friendly, helpful service c. Wine available for those that don’t like craft beer. d. Liquor and mixed drinks as well e. Really good burgers They also have a set up where you pour your own beer without having to wait at the bar when it’s crowded. The burgers come in several versions– peanut butter and bacon jam or guacamole with English muffin are just a couple. The ground meat is seasoned really well, the bun is just right, and French fries are good enough,

I like this place by a seaport. Burgers and fried pickles are amazing. Also big selection of craft beers. It’s cool to come here after work and have a fun relaxing time.

Today I came for food. I got the huevos Rancheros and got a free drink out of it. It was delicious. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because the food took so long to come out. Then when it came out one of our orders was wrong. Good food, but the wait was a bummer.

Nice place for a pint after work, though it is trying to reach the Seaport area from the heart of the financial district when it’s this cold. The ‘tap your own beer’ concept is awesome, and honestly I love being able to try more things and not just order beers with the minimum size being a pint. Snacks are on point to; tater tots and onion strings provided some much needed padding to our tap-o-rama. Would love to come back with my coworkers especially when it’s warmer!

Keg 229 NY Manhattan Seaport 2pm Monday 28th December 2015 Four Stars Whiskey Passport Pick up and Stop #1. I enjoyed Widow Jane on the Rocks at this fairly busy gastropub for a Monday just after noon. As you enter, you are greeted by a huge lamented steel bar and a friendly bartender. There is limited table seating in the front section of the restaurant. The rest is made up of high top tables with bar stools. They have Happy Hour at the standard M-F 5−7pm where you can get $ 2 off drafts and $ 5 wells. Also you can pour your own beer with one of their dispensers at back. It’s automated system that charges you 37 cent per ounce or $ 6 Pint.

Was in town for work and needed food to take back to my room after a long day. Ambiance: 4 stars Food: 2 Came across this place as it was in the area. I placed an order to-go for a veggie wrap and a seltzer water. The water was given to me in glass so I couldn’t take it with me. Once I opened the food in my hotel room I was saddened to realize it was 90% spinach. Don’t get me wrong, I love spinach but it was just so much. The wrap was a bit dry and came with a plain side salad that I didn’t touch. Overall the service was nice and the décor was cute but the food was just not something to get excited about.

The beer selection is amazing, but I am consistently annoyed at how inaccessible information is on what’s offered! There are always a dozen different printed menus, and when you ask for something they say no, then when you ask them to tell you what they don’t have they say to just ask for what you want instead, and then once again they say no, back and forth and back and forth, again and again, all because nobody ever bothers to write out or print out precisely what is available. One guy was absolutely useless, another had to check his phone for every detail, another was attentive but not effective, and the one guy who was the most informed and helpful never seems to be there when we visit. It’s a shame, because if you have all night to ask questions and if you have the patience to wait for your questions to be had, there are a lot of wonderful beers to be had, but, it’s the simple things like not having the handles for drafts pointed in the right direction so that you can actually read them that really irks me. A simple solution, rather than having one giant«master» menu that is supposed to cover the pour-your-own section and the on-tap section plus the cans-and-bottles section, would be to make three separate menus that get printed daily, or at least when things run out and new things come in. I’ve had a few experiences now that were exactly the same, only with different bartenders, but the problem is always the same. Which is a shame, because I’d love to be a regular here, but, oh well.

Great beers and a decent vibe make this place fun for brunch. Come here for a good deal at brunch compared to Others in the area. Mimosa comes with brunch. To be honest, the serving staff might be a bit overwhelmed at time for the size of this restaurant. It took me over an hour to get a burger at the bar. I’d still come here for a drink in Fidi now and again, but I’ll stay away from food in the future

While discovering the South Street Seaport district I wanted to find a real local bar. I was tired and need to sit down in a cool place. This bar was a lovely choice. Outside the madness of temporary food truck/venues and benches, Keg 229 is housed in an old brick stone house. I had a delicious grilled cheese with a side of salad, the bartender was really nice and we chat about the neighborhood changes and redevelopment.

I came here with my family for lunch and a few drinks and boy was I pleased. Everything was amazing from the burgers(I added fried pickles) to the breakfast fare. My daughter got the french toast with bananas foster… Absolutely amazing. Who knew beer and breakfast food paired so well. The fries that came with my burger were dressed with Rosemary and some fried garlic bulbs… crazy good. I also have to point out how great our server Joe was. He was attentive and very accommodating. When I checked in on Unilocal a promotion came up which I would have used but Joe informed me that they were not carrying the beer at that time but he made up for it in another way. Can’t wait to go back to south street seaport!

I am giving this place an extra star because the bartender on shift this Sunday PM was very engaging. It was not busy and the few of us sitting at the bar started a discussion on best gin, best bourbon, etc. I would swing by just to talk to the guy. I sampled a Angel’s Envy bourbon which I thought was a stand-out. At $ 49 a bottle retail it should be. I am a cheap drunk:) I only«found» this bar because they are one of the two bars in Manhattan where I could pick up my «Good Passport» Craft Beer ticket. It is a small space, just two blocks north of the South Street Seaport — but undiscovered. Two blocks away from anything in Manhattan and you may as well be in Siberia. If I lived or worked in the neighborhood, this would be a favorite bar. As long as the tourists don’t show up.

Keg 229 is pretty cool! The best part about this place is that you get to pour your own pint. So you get this cool little wrist band, you pop it against the wall and it allows you to pour your own pint. Now this is defintiely unique and adds to the zest of the bar. The only issue is, is that sometimse you don’t get the perfect pour and then your stuck with extremely foamy beer or you let go of the nozzle and then have to «reboop» your wrist band in order to make it flow again. The concept is really neat and high tech, but I think they might need to check their taps more often. A lot of my beers ended up being more foam than beer. Don’t get me wrong — I still drank them cause. beer, but it would have been nice to get a little bit more of a drink. I will most likely return, because it’s definitely a cool spot, but I may dive into their drinks behind the bar rather than their personal tap system. Enjoy!

It feels good to pour yourself your own beer from the tap. It feels even better watching some poor shmuck attempt to poor his own beer from the tap. Keg 229 offers a really cool feature where you can pour your own pints, at 45 cents an ounce. Not great, not awful, but for downtown Manhattan it’s a pretty good deal. You just have to know how to pour a beer. It’s not rocket science, but you have to know what you’re doing. Let it runs for a quick second, then put your glass underneath at a sharp angle, once it’s nearing the top tilt it back upright, and finish it off with a nice swirl for a nice small head. Keg 229 can easily become my go to spot when in FiDi for happy hour. They have a wide range of fantastic beers, all at a good price for its location. They seem to have some good looking snacks and bites, though I must admit I did not try any. I’m sure I’ll try them soon. Next time I’m doing happy hour down around the financial district, I’ll be sure to come here. You should consider it too. Much better than your options on stone street.
