So I went here the other day and though on first look the place seems clean and professional, I left knowing I’d never go back. Among other things the reason is roaches but I’ll get to that. I got a lunch time gel mani and express pedi. The place was dead. It should have been heaving at lunch time — that should have been my first clue. Eva was my technician and she was a lovely lady. She works hard and was pleasant to speak with during my visit. However, she was rough. I’ve got cuts all over my hands and when she used the buff she scraped against my cuticles until they bled. My feet are also a little rough from walking in sandals in the city. She hardly buffed them and when I would normally walk about of there with new soft feet, I left feeling the same but with pretty painted toes. I also found a very noticeable air bubble in the gel on my middle finger. At first she tried to tell me it was my nail, like my nail had a spike… riiiiiiight. I told her should buffed my nail and that if something was left on top that was something she should have cleaned away. She tried to fix it but the gel was already dry and I was late for a meeting. It more bugged me that she tried to say that was how my nails were, which most people who are polite would have accepted. But she did offer for me to come back the next day and she would fix it. I so okay but already knew I wasn’t coming back. And I did leave her a decent tip because she is a hard working woman. So when my pedi was finished I was instructed to go sit at the mani station where I swore I saw something out of the corner of my eye run along the baseboard. I saw it another 2 times but every time I looked it was gone. Then I saw it running along. Then I saw another two run across the floor in plain sight. It was enough to make me want to get the hell out of there YESTERDAY. I felt my feet off the floor and was happy I only had a few minutes before I was done. Bottomline: Eva — Is lovely but too rough. Roached — HELLNO! Get an exterminator.

My husband and I have been going to Linda since we moved to New York. Although the salon has changed the quality of the service hasn’t. My husband has his haircut with Linda once a month and pays around $ 30 which is great value for a style cut in the city. I have had style cuts, foils and full head of colour in the past and always been happy with the results.

My first review of 2013! I’ve popped into Jose Merat a handful of times during my lunch break since I started working at my current job. Typically, all I have time for is a a 20 minute chair massage but the staff is more than accommodating and Irina does a great job. My back tends to get mangled and needs a professional to fix it. The salon itself is spotless and I always feel welcome there. I’d like to try getting my hair done there sometime. It’s a bit pricey but that’s to be expected in the neighborhood. I’m sure I’ll return.

This salon is right around the corner from where I work — there is a woman named Luba who works Weds-Saturday and is VERY good. I go about every 6 months for a cut and highlights — I didn’t give it 5 because sometimes she makes me feel uncomfortable the fact that I have so much hair and the highlighting takes a long time.
