Had been here and written it off awhile back, but wanted to stay close to home this weekend and I’m so glad I gave it another shot. Simple, quick, and less expensive than some other diners in the area. Omelet and homefries were perfectly seasoned, coffee was great, and the challah french toast was so delicious on its own it didn’t even need syrup. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was also a huge plus on a snowy Sunday. Not sure if it’s new owners or just a turn for the better, but either way I’ll definitely be back.

Delivery was quick. Delivery lady was friendly. I ordered a burger and fires, the burger was well done but not dry, and the fries were crisp. Couldn’t ask for more. This will now be my staple.

Welcome to John’s Where you feel at home and get a huge welcome from all the staff. They are very accommodating and the speedy service is great if you’re in a hurry. I always love coming here because of the menu flexibility and the great prices. So to make this short and sweet. Come to Johns and feel a real New York diner experience.

Came in one afternoon on a whim after working up an appetite from a kickboxing class across the street. Sat as a single diner by the window and enjoyed a very tasty goat cheese and fresh basil omelette. Food was good, service was friendly and the place felt warm. Reminded me of the diner in the Seinfeld series– classic.

I live right around the corner. This is my Sunday hangover spot. I order the same thing every time: tomato basil goat cheese omelette and a cappuccino(the caps here are of great quality). Simple quick eat.

I had a science teacher in middle school who was an enthusiast about the history of diners in American culture, having visiting hundreds in New England alone. I won’t claim to be quite on his level, but I do feel a certain pull towards simple fare served in unassuming spaces. Yeah sure, I love some crazy riff on eggs benedict using chorizo and cornbread or whatever, but sometimes less is more. This place exemplifies that. Often I’m there alone so I’ll just sit at the counter, watching expertly-griddled eggs and pancakes sizzle next to a mountain of potatoes that gets gradually portioned into home fries. If it’s lunchtime, a triple-decker sandwich sliced into triangular quarters and some crispy fries hit the spot. The service is pretty quick although they’re sometimes a little busy. and the décor is about as generic as it gets, but that’s why you should come. Seinfeld could just as easily have filmed this place for their diner archetype, because it’s a perfect slice of classic American life. This is food, not cuisine, and sometimes that’s what we all need.

Good, basic, wholesome greasy American food. I always come here when I am in NY and have business at the UN. Breakfast satisfies in a way only American breakfast can satisfy. Lunch brings an opportunity for a turkey burger with fries. Not great, but good.

I went to John’s Coffee Shop on 2 separate occasions, and in both occasions, their staff and service was condescending to say the least. Their food was also nothing extraordinary. Both times, I ordered their cheese omelette(blah!!) and coffee(lukewarm). I like giving places the benefit of the doubt(you never know, maybe the real chef was out sick or maybe they just don’t have one). I live right in the neighborhood and it’s just too bad this coffee shop is so disappointing. Though I can see how it would appeal to unsuspecting tourists.

We come here because it’s just across the hotel we always stay at when in New York and Joaquin really likes their corned beef and hash. Service is average. Food is ok for me but good for my boys. It’s a small diner located at the corner of 43rd and 2nd. You can never go wrong with their French Toast and Waffles. Coffee is normally warm(meh). French Fries is the bomb. Chocolate pancake is good! Definitely our go to breakfast place when in NY.

Great food and service. I especially appreciate their willingness to accommodate special requests. My ‘custom’ omlette is always perfect. If you’re in a hurry for breakfast, you could easily be in and out in 20 min.

I got the weirdest omelette I’ve ever eaten. I ordered the goat cheese and peppers but I’ve never had dry goat cheese? The eggs were brown which meant they were pretty overcooked. The coffee wasn’t so great either. My boyfriend liked his better. He had the pancakes and fruit. Both of which were good. I like the other diners in the area better.

Small diner near the UN, I always come here for breakfast pick ups. The food is very decent and the staff are friendly. I like that they never seem annoyed with small orders unlike many of their neighboring diners.

Very good on the simple stuff diners are made of and friendly staff who want to see you happy. Good choice for a simple breakfast and a cup of joe. Neighborhood feel. Probably gets busy during the workweek. Back to the basics.

If you know me you know I love good coffee shops with corner locations for people watching. John’s fits the bill for both. It’s a bit upscale in it’s décor and — get this — clean! Food is the usual diner fare and always good. Nothing fancy. Decent prices. Service is friendly and fast. Gus the owner is always on hand. It can get crowded as it’s tiny with tighter than normal booths, but the wall of windows opens up the space visually. Being near the UN it get a mixed, interesting crowd. My only pet peeve is they changed the bread a while back to what’s now considered a ‘soft’ variety instead of the good old-fashioned rye with seeds. Now it’s just cheap soft stuff with a flavor — and bread can determine a good restaurant from a great one. That’s what keeps me from giving it 5 stars. Otherwise it is what it is. One of my «regulars».

A nice little diner if that’s what you’re in the mood for. Cramped booths not fit for the tall or portly. I ordered a Greek omelet that was tasty enough but on the small size based on my other diner experiences. With soda and tip my bill came to $ 15. Must say service was excellent. My friend ordered the tuna salad and reported that she got sick from it.

++ — Very fast service, I don’t think I was done ordering before my breakfast came out — I was in and out of there in less than a half hour + — Hash browns/potatoes are some of the better ones that I have eaten — Inexpensive +/- — Typical breakfast, nothing special

Have eaten here a few times — the service is always very attentive, food is fresh and the diner is clean! Today I had eggs benedict which were really great. Prices are very reasonable too.

Decent small diner. I was there fairly early and mostly every customer at the time was ordering a take out sandwich or coffee. The seating is a bit tight, over 4 people is rough, but alone or with one other, you’ll be good. I sat at the counter, it was pretty nice. I decided on the banana nut pancakes. It was a good dish. Three pancakes loaded with banana and walnuts. They were very tasty. The coffee was pretty good. It’s a diner, so it’s good food for a decent price. The place is clean and the staff is helpful.
