i’m by no means artistic, but i stopped in recently to look at some acrylics and picked up some brushes. from what i’ve seen, they have a good selection for more the advanced artists(everything sounds so foreign to me! lol). overall, good service, great prices, will be back if i need anything.

Called them for help with paper. They stayed on the phone, looked up things online, basically gave me a paper education. Super impressed. Thanks.

So excited for a brick and mortar Jerry’s Artarama location in our fair city! Sipping on bubble tea from my girl Coco on St. Mark’s, I strolled down every aisle aimlessly, squeezing the different paint tubes(because I’m creepy, or tactile — which is a nicer way to say it), debating the different brushes, running my thumb over the watercolor papers(cotton papers are serious swoon, y’know?), and after an hour of dawdling bliss, I finally decided on a series of paints and brushes that I don’t ever need, but I’ll always want, and my inner hoarder just cannot wait to come back. Unilocal has a great 10 for 20 deal, so definitely get on thaaat.

After avoiding my need to paint for as long as I mentally, spiritually and physically could I had to buy dang oils! I went in, did my little forever long dance around the options, and finally decide on a set. All my stuff is in another state and I needed the basics. During what probably looked like a suspicious dance around the place, over and over and over, I was left to my own neurotic methods. I mean this in the best way possible. I was approached once or twice and offered assistance but they were so chill, yet informative, which was awesome because I treat the process way too seriously for some reason. Got my basics! Bam.

Where do I start? The day before Christmas Eve my boss sent me over to the post office(about 8 – 9 blocks away from my office) to ship an important package by registered mail. I waited in line at the post office for about 30 or so minutes(Christmas rush!) only to be told by the kindly postman that my package had to be sealed with paper tape in order to be sent by registered mail… d’oh! They didn’t provide any but he suggested I try Jerry’s, which is just next door. I wandered in clutching my plastic-tape-wrapped package and was immediately approached by Steven asking if I needed help. I explained that I was looking for ‘paper tape,’ which I hadn’t known existed until 5 minutes before this encounter. He informed me that he didn’t know it existed until I just told him about it but cheerfully set out to look for some anyway. Miracle of miracles, he actually found it. Not only that, he let me stay in the shop to re-tape the package instead of sending me out in the cold NY rain. *Here’s where the story gets weirder and the service gets even better* Having never used paper tape before, I was flummoxed when I realized that no part of it was sticky. At that point, Michael came over to try and help. He suggested that in order to work it might need to be wet, like a stamp. It seemed so obvious when he said it but I swear I could have looked at that stupid roll of tape for 100 years without ever figuring it out. Immediately we realized that was the key to making it stick(yay!) and then I realized I’d have to lick a whole lot of it to tape up the stupid package(damnit!). Instead of watching me lick a giant roll of tape like a moron(which I would have done if it was me working at the store), Michael graciously walked me back to the restroom, grabbed a sponge on the way, and proceeded to help me wet and tape up the whole damn thing! I have lived in New York for 13 years and I don’t think I’ve ever encountered such amazing customer service. I’ve mentioned this in other reviews, but it’s so rare in this city to find employees(especially in retail & customer service jobs) who seem genuinely helpful and don’t act like they’d rather punch you in the face than ring something up for you.(Not that I blame them– I think we can all agree that people are terrible and working in retail is the worst). Every person I dealt with that day at Jerry’s was smiling, helpful and went WAY above and beyond for me. I will definitely go out of my way to go back and shop there again. The major takeaways: 1. Jerry’s is great and has everything 2. The employees are exceptional(special shout-out to Steven & Michael!) 3. If you ever send a package via registered mail, you need to use paper tape 4. Paper tape is an actual thing and you have to lick it to make it work

Way helpful staff. I’ve been here several times and each visit is a pleasure. Yesterday I was in need of some input for a project I’m working on and was directed to a shop around the corner for supplies. Very«Miracle on 34th Street!» I will keep coming back to Jerry’s for my art supply needs.

Sometimes a good thing happens in NYC that makes the rest of the crap we deal with totally worth it. I went into the shop on whim to rekindle my sketching habit after years. It started pouring while I was in there, so I was waiting it out by the door as I didn’t have an umbrella. And then the sweetest thing happened. A very sweet staff member handed me his own umbrella, unprovoked. Seriously made my day. He deserves cupcakes. And I’m definitely more encouraged to start drawing again.

Love this spot! They have had everything I’ve needed and more, the staff is so awesome and helpful, all young artists of one of the four genre’s(art, music, drama, and dance). Prices are great as well, a lot less than what I pay at most places. See you soon! :)

This is such a great art store, that it reminds me many of life’s conundrums can be alleviated with a trip to the art supplyist’s. I was delighted to find everything I needed, and the sweet as can be floor staff let me want for nothing. The store itself is gorgeous, concrete floors and great shelving make coming in a pleasure. I’ll be back!
