Innovative Approach Physical Therapy

This is a wonderful place to get physical therapy. It’s part of the Hospital for Special Surgery network, so you know it’s good, but Dennis and his staff really go above and beyond for their patients.
First and foremost, you will see results. I came to Dennis while recovering from knee surgery and saw steady improvement using his program – that was several months ago and I’m back to 100%. He is also very knowledgeable about the latest in PT methods. For example, I thought I knew everything there was to know about hamstring stretches (after years of sports and working with personal trainers and other PTs), but in about 5 seconds Dennis showed me a new stretch that I recognized immediately to be the best, most effective hamstring stretch I had ever used. I never felt rushed during my appointments and all my questions were always answered.
In addition, the facilities are clean, scheduling flexible, and insurance/​billing issues are handled simply and easily. Definitely recommend.

My Innovative Approach Physical Therapy story:
I came here after I was told Columbia’s program was backed up for 2 months which I couldn’t wait around for. I was in the middle of training for the NYC ING Marathon and encountered ankle problems which left in me so much pain I would be limping in agony at the end of my long runs. I came to IAPT and Dennis immediately figured out that my problem was being caused by overly tight calves which were then affecting the tendons in my ankles. Who would have thought!
So for the next two and a half months, I started going to IAPT twice a week to work on my calves. Dennis is a great PT and very caring about his patients. He discusses your injury and the root of the problem with you and goes over all the exercises to help you get better. Anna also did a wonderful job tending to my problem areas with acupuncture and cupping. I had never had either done before but she has definitely made me a convert for the future.
Dennis and Anna did an amazing job tending to my problem areas and even though my problem resurfaced at the marathon this past Sunday, I know I wouldn’t have gotten through 26.2 miles without them since I mentally knew that I would be ok despite the discomfort.

This was a great recommendation from a friend — one which I have passed on many times now.
Dennis listens to the problems, explains treatments /​injuries. He has always been phenomenal about managing to fit me in to his schedule when I call in with an emergency (on more than one occasion!).
Definitely can’t recommend IAPT highly enough.

Dennis and Laura (and their intern Rosie) are really awesome. They are very friendly, personalized and hands-​on, and they know what they are doing. Dennis (the owner and PT) took his time to educate me about my shoulder injury (complete with diagrams and what not), what muscles need to be strengthened after surgery, and explained what each exercise does. In addition, they also give me advice on how to strengthen other parts of my body, not just the shoulder. Most importantly, my shoulder is pretty much back to full motion, and the progress of the strength is great!
Other things I am happy about: Their location is very accessible. Almost all of the subway lines get you there within a 5 block radius. The patients are also very friendly.
**Update**: I’ve gone snowboarding 4 days this season, and the shoulder is feeling great.

Huge fan of Dennis and Laura. They are wonderful. Dennis is the PT and he makes going to PT a pleasure. I love seeing them three times a week. Laura assists Dennis and she understands the body, is so helpful with your exercise.
You spend an hour there and it’s like having your own physical trainer. They really do have an innovative approach. I have been going to PT on and off for over 20 years and these guy were different.
I highly suggest them.
