Usually crowded and not very manageable when crowd overflows and swarm over tables. Try not to eat near the doors. Went there the other day and overly aggressive patrons tried to hijack our table. Sorry we don’t play that. one waiter tried to give our table away since our entire party was not there. We waited about 40 minutes to get that table. yessh. this place is not for the meek. Sadly, not many good dim sum places left. Hey you wanna eat, you gotta fight.

Yes, the original HSF has closed, however, there is still a dim sum restaurant at this address and phone number. I tried to go here last weekend at around noon on Sunday. I called to make a reservation and the lady on the phone said I didn’t need one for my party of four and that we should just come in and wait for a table. When we arrived we go a huge surprise– the place had a huge noisy and mostly local crowd, both inside the restaurant and out! We decided to wait in line and look at the menu. Most likely the food has changed a bit, but I noticed it still had the old standbys of all types of dumplings and pork buns and sticky rice dishes on the menu. After waiting in the noisy crowd for over 20 minutes, we decided that it was too jammed and the wait for a table was too long for my party of 4 so we went to Oriental Garden instead. I would advise trying to go to the new HSF on a weekday instead if you really want to try it. If you want dim sum and you can’t get in on the weekend, try Oriental Garden(on Elizabeth street) instead: its nice, the place is clean, and it has delicious food.

So sad to see one of my earliest memories go. I can recall being about 8 years old and trying escargot with my old brothers here. You will be seriously missed.

CLOSED! After 36 years, no less. So much good dim sum eaten(and memories had) here. I will even miss the giant crabs in the tanks.

I absolutely LOVE dim sum and this is one of my favorite places. PROS: High quality of food(everything I’ve ever had there was absolutely delicious and fresh) Convenience(I mean, they come around with a cart like every 5 seconds; wait like 2 minutes and they’ll be there with whatever you want) Hours(opens at 10am 7 days a week, just in case you’re in the mood for breakfast). CONS: Cash only(not a huge inconvenience, but for someone who’s not exactly a huge fan of anything other than plastic, kind of a buzzkill). No lemon tarts!(for years they had these amazing lemon tarts you can still find around Chinatown). Location(Not saying that no one lives in Chinatown, but for most of us, it’s consider a little out of the way) Slight lack of variety(like former reviewers have said, there are only about 10 things that come around). All in all, a place that I will return to again and again :) Despite the expensive cab fare fees it takes to get there…

You know, there are times in our lives where we exercise very, VERY poor judgment. Like the time where we thought filming over our parents wedding video of us taking a dump in the bathroom of a gasoline station would brought lotsa laughter from mom and dad or like when we elected Bush to office.TWICE. I should have known about this place. Like the fact that they have to advertise in 650,000 bold font in the front of the windows DIMSUM. Or the inordinate amount of foreign tourist ordering the moo shoo pork or egg foo yung. Or the fact that every other Dim Sum restaurant around this area had a waiting line going out the door while this one had their employees pulling people off the street to come in. The service was awful, god awful. We had to ask them to push the carts to our table and they kept bringing the same shit. And the shit that they did bring tasted like… well…um.shit. Now, I’m not a picky eater at all. As a matter of fact I’ll eat anything. But there was a point in the meal where I physically spit out the food because it was that bad. If I could give this place 7 negative stars I would, or at least 4 middle fingers because this place was so bad I left pissed off and will never go back. I hope somebody who works there reads this, cuz maan, there’s a lot you need to do to really step yo game up.

I love dim sum, all the dumplings, different things to try, old faves. I have tried a handful of places around Manhattan’s Chinatown, and finally got around to trying HSF. The carts that came around seemed to bring the same 12 things over and over and over. I was looking for a little more variety, I guess. I wasn’t really that impressed by what I did eat, in fact, the steamed veggie dumpling I got had a suspiciously fishy taste(and not in a good way). Everything else was just ok. I found it to be more expensive than a couple of the others I frequent, so I can’t say this was the best experience. Oh well, good thing there are other choices in the area!

I met up with some friends to have dim sum here earlier today. This is my first time here and I really didn’t get to try a lot of their dim sum items because I came late and so they ran out of a lot. It’s not any different from the traditional dim sum style restaurants that has old women pushing around the various dim sum dishes. I ordered some Shrimp dumplings and had to wait almost an hour before I got it because it was one of the items they ran out of. I also had the Shrimp crêpe which was ‘meh’. I wasn’t too impressed and think I will stick to my default dim sum spot which is Dim Sum A Go-Go.

I have a love-hate relationship with Dim Sum. I love the food, I hate the places which serve them. I forgive a lot when I go to these places(long waiting period, sitting with randoms, being largely ignored by cart ladies are all standard), but something I cringe at is DIRTYPLASTICUTENSILS. DEARGODWHY?! We offer plastic utensils because we are too lazy to clean the real ones… how on earth did these things get dirty in the first place?! I long for a good NY Chinatown dim sum place. My search continues… If anyone knows a Dim Sum place that: — doesn’t seat you with randoms — has enough variety to feed someone who eats kosher like(gf) — is CLEAN …please let me know. You’ll be my bff. That’s right… forever.

I have two go-to dim sum places in NYC — Mei Lai Wah(a little tea house) and HSF, which is far more high end. I hadn’t been up in about two years for a visit, so the renovation was a bit of a surprise to me and the place was a little slow when we arrived. It was a pleasant surprise that my friend and I didn’t have to share a table with 8 strangers now that the tables are smaller. The food, as always, was delish. Ever since Fortune left Reston, I am in serious dim sum withdrawal and I needed my damned fix. Thanks, HSF!

we usually go to dim sum go go for dim sum, but we decided to spice up our routine with a visit here on saturday(over labor day wknd). i’m told that it’s usually pretty packed on weekends, but i’m guessing that due to the combination of horrible weather, labor day weekend, and our early visit time(12pm), we were offered a table right away. like most of the dim sum restaurants in chinatown(w/the exception of go go), the dim sum is pushed around in carts by harried middle-aged women. i prefer the dim sum sheets at go go since you can check off what you like and ensure that you get to eat everything you set up for. i suppose some people like the surprise and the experience of picking and choosing what you want to eat from the carts. we ended up having to wait a long time for the items that we wanted to finally be available and having to refuse the offerings of various intestines and of foods that we had already eaten. i’m sure that some of the other people in the restaurant were waiting for the exact same foods as us, because some things sold out before the cart could get to us. the quality of the dim sum is pretty good, and the variety is ok as well. too bad they don’t make more of the popular dishes.

Decent dim sum and decent prices. A recent renovation makes this place a bit cleaner, which is a plus considering the hit and miss nature as far as cleanliness goes. Stick with the usual dim sum dishes such as shrimp and beef rice noodles, shu mai(pork dumplings), and stuff that looks steaming hot from the push cart ladies. Stay away from dishes carried on trays. Those are usually the leftovers they’re trying to get rid of.
