I checked up on the complaint I filed with the NYC311 site and sadly nothing has been done yet the business still has a grade of A with only 12 violation points. I have contacted the office of the Mayor of NYC about this as there is a significant health risk with this business.

Very disappointed, I eat in this restaurant about two weeks ago, it is the disgusting food in hoy Wong that definitely overwhelmed my work and wasted my time to curse this shit. The duck and the grilled pork is far from crisp and have a disgusting taste. And the fried dish is much oily and use the cheap Rapeseed oil.

Good place for a good, quick and yummy meal. We got beef choy fun, duck & chicken on top of rice and of course… tea! :)

I have been eating here(or take-out) since I moved to NYC; the shop has been here more than 20 years. The meat cutter became the host … same smile. The place is not fancy but everything is tasty. Love any roast meats and veggie combo; simple as that. Credit cards are welcomed. YUM

Everyone beware coming to this place! My fiancée and I got charged for duck we never ordered or ate. We didn’t realize it until we left the restaurant. We had assumed the duck was complimentary, but obvious not. $ 50 and the quality wasn’t that great. I regret we stopped here. The shrimp in the lo mein were tiny and not much flavor. The soup was alright. The vegetable fried rice I’ve had better locally. My fiancée got the tofu which she said wasn’t bad. Very shady though so be careful if they put duck on your table even though you didn’t order it. I will be getting in touch with the BBB about this. Very shady! Maybe if you eat duck or pork you will like this place. My fiancée and I eat neither. Make sure to check your bill before you leave and if they give you duck without you ordering it tell them you don’t want it! I will be getting in touch with the better business Bureau!

Loved here, we ate here twice. I loved everything about this restaurant, the duck and pork hanging on the window, the free tea, selection of food, the seating, and the food! OMG! It’s so good. We ate here only twice could we found this place at the end of our stay in New York. The other restaurants were very good, but too Americanized, and no experience. Just eat here and you’ll see what I mean. Also it’s good to see the same ethic of people eating the food of their own culture. That’s a very good sign it’s going to be better than good. The other restaurants we ate first, not one Asian was there eating there or in line waiting to be seated. What doesn’t that mean? Well eat here and compare them yourself. Food 10⁄10. Experience 10⁄10. Service 8⁄10.

I’m very pleased with their wonton noodles soup with roasted duck. They also have superb beef with Chinese broccoli. I came around 4 and it was not packed.

Solid Chinese BBQ in Chinatown. Today, I ordered the«sam bo fan» which is three items over rice. Roast pork, crispy pig, and fried egg. The flavors and cooking methods were truly traditional. The sweetness of the roast pork, soy sauce, crispiness of the pig skin, over easy egg, on top of rice come together nicely for some soulful cantonese cooking.

Cost does not match the quality … My girlfriend and I had the Peking meat sampler… It was terrible… Meat was microwaved and still served semi-warm. Buc choi was a good vegetable. Way too overpriced for what we had. I ate most of it only because I was hungry and had to eat. Stay away from this place.

Been passing by this since forever. Finally decided to drop in for a quick bite. The crispy bbq pork over rice looked and tasted like that of neighboring restaurants. Good. I was most impressed with the wonton soup(not to be confused for wonton noodle soup) because it had an ample amount of lettuce and scallions. And I’m a big fan of scallions. Also good.

Wonderful and perfect experience!!! I am from Canton and I can guarantee you what you are gonna taste here is classic, local and true Cantonese food. The steamed fish is fresh and soup here taste just like home! We didn’t order a soup at first bc we didn’t want the soup on menu. Surprisingly, the waiter offered us soup(from secret menu?) for free. And that’s the soup I wanted for such a long time. I definitely will come again and again.

Nothing special about this place. The duck was fatty and not in a good way. Would not come back.

Stay Away! I will not recommend this place to any body. Because this place is dirty, expensive, tricky, and unpalatable. Dirty: Plates, chopsticks, cups, floor. The restroom is very close to the dining area, and you can smell it. Plus, the restroom is disgusting. Expensive: the price of their items are more $$expensive than any other Chinese restaurants, yet the taste is below the other places. I know a lot of people like lobsters, and they charge $ 32.5 for 2 lobsters when most of other place charge only $ 16.99−24.99. Tricky: When you go to Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, the tax is usually included in the menu price. However, the owner tricked me to pay it again, and he was not able to give me a legit receipt. Unpalatable: Talk about that! Every time I walk pass by this place(6:30pm — 8pm), I usually see only 2 – 3 people eat there. Chinese don’t like to go there. In conclusion, This is a bad place, you can find many good ones using Unilocal.A lot of restaurant in the same area have great food and reasonable price. But, AVOID this place.

Happy I found this restaurant as my new chinese rotisserie rice plate pit stop. This place is not as pack as the other restaurants but just as good. Quality, quantity and service — better than I’d expected. Only lil recommendation is to add a couple of veggie stems to the rotisserie rice plate — feel kinda guilty with huge plate of meat and rice. We ordered tofu stirfry and pea pod stems — both tasted fresh and good wok air(high heat cooking).

Quick bite and run kinda dine, which is perfectly fine. My Big Wong next door was packed so came here real quick for bbq meat kinda lunch. Soy sauce chicken with roast pork over rice. I didn’t know that the roast pork though would be ALLFAT and hardly any meat. Was unchewable, ended up putting the five slices of roast pork on the side. I told the waiter and he shrugged and upon further examining it, said«WOW, very fat indeed» Knowing it’s Chinatown, you don’t get a refund or another gratis plate in apology. Just pay and move on… away from Hoy Wong.

This place used to be occupied by what was my fav. dim sum place in Manhattan Chinatown, specifically for their amazing plates of Chinese-preparation fried smelts. It was tiny inside, & barely had room for tables or carts, but incredible food. They have been replaced by this spot. Everything mediocre & overpriced — Joes Shanghai prices for some seriously lacking food. I was told they could make a certain dish, & when served, was something totally different. They also forgot one of our other dishes. This place should be ½ the price for the quality of food & service. AVOID !

I’ve been coming here since I was young for family dinners, lunch time, you name it… This is by far the best juiciest roast pig that I have ever had. The workers are really friendly and attentive. I love coming here, it is the center of Chinatown, where tourists and locals walk by. I would definitely recommend the salt and pepper squid, pork, and the cha-siew. YUMMY! Cheap, delicious meals & friendly staff, that pretty much deserves 4 stars, wouldn’t you agree?

Summary: Food(1.5) wasn’t good(and it’s ALL microwaved!) and the service(1) was grumpy and impatient. We just stopped in for a snack after seeing the strips of roast pork in the window. The pork wasn’t spectacular – especially after the server shoved it into the microwave. The roast duck just wasn’t good. The half order was a lot more than we planned on eating, and given the less-than-wonderful taste, we didn’t even try to finish it. The service was grumpy and impatient – even for a Chinese restaurant. I know that folks are supposed to sit and order right away, but the waiter was visibly annoyed by our asking questions(difference between roast pig and roast pork?) and not knowing exactly what we wanted right away. He pushed us to order more, even though we told him we were only there for a snack, and was annoyed(again!) when we said no. Overall, he made me feel like he wanted us to leave. I’d definitely try another(of the many) restaurant the next time we have a craving for roast pork.

Pretty authentic Cantonese food run purely by Southern China people! The roast pork is really good here and not overly marinated in sweetness. Although the pieces are smaller than usual places I go to. I had a few simple Chinese dishes that included vegetables, some meat, and also seafood. The seafood dish, salt and pepper fried shrimp, was unfortunate only alright. The shrimp was carefully cleaned and large but the flavor was just not strong enough and the frying powder left a chalky feeling in my mouth. Service was attentive but I could tell the waiter was really trying hard to sell us as many dishes as he could. Unfortunately it’s difficult to say no to a sweet and chatty old man so our 6 dishes ended up to be a total of around $ 75. A bit overpriced in my opinion! A great thing about this place is that it’s open later than 8, for those of you having late night appetites prowling around NYC.

3 stars for the food. 1 star for the service. Seafood chow mein was standard. I preferred the noodles to be a bit softer though and the portion size, although a bit small, was enough to feed two people. Pricey though at $ 12 for that size. The fried soft shell crab was seasoned with salt, pepper, onions and chillies. It was good, but a bit salty for me. Our waiter really killed the experience. The waiter did the bare minimum of taking our order and giving us our food(like in most Chinese restaurants). The bill comes and it is around $ 23. When I was paying the bill, I was thinking of putting the tip with it, but at the last minute changed my mind and took the extra money off so I could get change and put the tip on the table instead. So I put down $ 25. The waiter comes by and starts speaking to me in a low voice in Mandarin about how I’m not putting enough tip down and I need to put down a few more dollars. He was lecturing about standard tipping percentages. (Umm yeah… seriously dude, first I don’t understand Mandarin, and I spoke to you in Cantonese earlier, wtf is up with the switch up? Afraid the boss will hear?) After I told him I don’t speak Mandarin, he switched to Cantonese and told me the same thing. I shut him up when I told him I was putting tip on the table instead of the bill. He honestly didn’t deserve anything at that point. The whole situation really irked me. Tip is not mandatory and is based on service. That was one shady/greedy waiter. Definitely won’t be coming back or recommending this place to anyone.
