House of Seafood Express

After trying a few other spots, I couldn’t find anything that came close to the goodness that House of Seafood offers. I was a little reluctant to go back here (even tho the food is so GOOD), but the service on my last visit was a bit ghetto and unprofessional. Well today was AWESOME!!! There were a couple older ladies working with the young folks in the kitchen today, and they had everything flowing like a well oiled machine. I could tell these ladies were somebody’s Momma’s, cause it was so professional today.
One of the ladies (I think her name is Quan) gave great customer service. She was able to multi task, while being friendly (acknowledging each customer), and managing the orders in the kitchen. When she took my order she asked if I wanted spicy crab legs or non spicy. butter or no butter. I was never given options before, I like options lol. I was really impressed when she let me know the time left on my order before it was ready, and when she kept checking with the cooks on each order. Made me feel like my time wasn’t being wasted, and that she had everything in order. The food is always good, and now that service is better. I will definitely be going back soon.

Customer service sucks. The sister with the earring threw her nose has a bad attitude! She does not no how to take orders over the phone you have to pay if you order on the phone she over charge me hand to get a refund than when I got there my food was not even ready that was the purpose of calling the two brothers that make the food they to busy playing with each other .hard to support your local business when they hire people with manners or any type of customers service training. Now see why harlem is being taken over I’m done with them I’ll go back to 145 st fish spot!

I don’t often write reviews but this is ridiculous. The food is great when they get it right. Every time I order a side from the menu they call later to say it’s unavailable. They always forget my drink. They make efforts to correct the situation once I call but come on… Try to get it correct the first time.

I gave this place four stars because there’s always room for improvement. The food is delicious!!! it’s even better the next day when I heated up. They serve you a lot and when you walked out of the restaurant you don’t smell like food or fried fish. It’s so pleasant inside because everyone is talking and having charming conversations when it’s very busy (and that’s often) you might have to wait several minutes but that’s why it’s best to call ahead. They are even delivering orders above 150^th street. I’m hoping they will expand this restaurant to go further in Harlem because we need more places like this. The best catfish and key lime cake in the world

Honestly not sure why this place doesn’t have better reviews. I’ve only had their food delivered and each time it was hot, well cooked and delicious! Always delivered in a timely fashion. The fried shrimp and catfish are soooo good!

It’s gotten to the point where I order from this place at least once a week. The fish is cooked perfectly — non-​greasy, seasoned just right and not fried to the point of being dried out. They know what they’re doing when it comes to frying fish!
The mac’n’cheese was way too cheesy — it was basically a block of cheese with about 20 noddles. The fries aren’t homemade or crispy, so I wouldn’t recommend them. The delivery guy is always super friendly and fast, and the girls who work the counter are tolerable.
There’s a tiny area along the wall to eat-​in and also some seating out front, but this is mainly a to-​go spot.

Typically, if I at least liked something, I’d give a 2 star but here’s why I gave it a one. This is my second visit. I make it a point to give small businesses at least 2 tries if there’s something that’s at least decent. If you want good, but not great whiting, unrecognizable crab or salmon cakes, utterly disgusting potato salad (watery, no texture of potato, its almost pureed, lacks seasoning) and poor customer service, you’ve found your place. The first visit I ordered the L2 special. I asked the tall kid with the Under Armor wristband to poke a whole in the plastic lid so that the fries and fish wouldn’t get soggy. He completely disregarded it, as if it wasn’t even said to him. I ordered the whiting sandwich, asked for no bread. He didn’t even acknowledge it. He didn’t notate it on the ticket, nor announce it to the cook. There was a young lady at the desk on my first visit on 8÷13÷15. She was pleasant. I’m a new teacher in the area. I’m going to have to cross them off the list. I cannot recommend them based on service and overall quality of food.

A friend and I arrived at the House of Seafood today before noon and ordered the Catfish and Chips. We had an appointment at 1pm and need to eat there. However, the Owners were having a conversation and sitting in the small eating area. Not making any room for customers to enjoy their food. I looked over at them to see if they would make room and they looked back as if I had seven heads. They were so oblivious and unconcerned about the customers coming in to eat-​in. I wound up eating outside in the extremely hot sun. I want the owners to know that they set the examples as leaders (and their behavior needs tons of improvement) in their business — so if you don’t care about your customers then don’t expect your staff too. Food is a 4 stars but because your POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, I rate you 2 stars. Needless to say, I WILL NOT BE BACK!!!

I have been here several times. It’s a little disappointing to come in looking to buy something only to hear, «We don’t have that today.»
Macaroni salad: not good
Potato salad: not good
French fries: good — made on the spot
I haven’t had any of the seafood. Will throw in a few stars just in case it is good.
Seating: VERY limited. Plan on getting food to go.
Customer Service: staff overall are polite. However, I went in there on Sat ⁸⁄₁ evening and a lady on the register had a shirt on that said, «Never liked you anyway.» Wow. Totally unprofessional. And for this reason, I will have to deduct a few stars.

Mehhhh indeed! nothing great (or close) about this place. They food is just pure fried fish with nothing to add or say about. Lack of flavor, kind of dry and the french fries super soggy.
We got the house special lunch platter which is whiting fish, bay scallops and shrimp. The only good thing was the fish which it was ok, the scallops were acid and uneatable and the shrimp kind of small and tasteless.
It’s cheap… money wise and quality too

So I have seen so many so so reviews of this place and my husband and I are always walking past this place. I looked over the reviews and pretty much got the hint to not get it delivered or call in your order. So we dropped in on a Saturday night around 8ish.
The menu is pretty extensive and almost too much to select from. But from all the reviews i gathered the catfish, shrimp, and mac n cheese are good places to start. I placed my order with the young lady working there. I ordered 2 things of shrimp and Catfish with a side of mac n cheese. Our total was about 40 bucks. The food was ready within 10 minutes.
There are no places to really sit and eat your food so we took it to go. The shrimp was pretty good and seasoned well but not salty. The mac n cheese was pretty good and tasted homemade. The catfish did not blow my mind and was just okay.
I am sure my husband and I will be back for a quick seafood dinner to go in the future.

Here’s my take on House of seafood. The food is pretty good and tasty. I also enjoyed the beverage and the lemon frosted cake. My problem with the place is it’s EXTREMELY unorganized. There were too many people in the small kitchen standing around. They only have one person doing the frying when they should have 2 people with 2 fryers when it’s crowded. There’s also no clear distinction on who hasn’t ordered and who’s waiting for their food so when you walk in, you don’t know what is what. At some point they have to expand the size of their establishment. Forget about calling them to deliver. They can barely handle the people coming in to pick up their order. If I wasn’t so hungry, I would’ve left out of pure frustration.

Sigh I love the shrimp and chips here I go weekly for my fix… some other things I enjoy is the fried salmon and the fried whiteys (lol) but I believe the shrimp is the star of the show that’s my go to order. I’m not a fan of the mac and cheese but I do like the collard greens and cake. I’ve also tried the red rice which is tasty… oh! I don’t really care for the potato salad neither. The place is really small hence the word express so don’t even think about eating inside. The service is good when the owner is there well what appears to be the owner she makes sure things are moving… however when she isn’t there it’s ran by a bunch of lackadaisical kids who don’t know the meaning of customer service (except for the guys in the back they’re always helpful and present good customer service)
I waited over 10 minutes on the phone just to tell the young lady what I wanted to order for pick up… I was put on hold 3 times in that 10 minutes walked over to the place while on hold and my order still wasn’t placed. It was only 3 people in the restaurant and even if there was a lot of people calling in there should be a better system implemented rather then keeping folks on hold so for long. what pissed me off the most was the carelessness in regards to my complaint, I wasn’t told I apologize… matter of fact I wasn’t even acknowledged! I understand normal teenage behavior but not when I’m paying 25 bucks for 1 order of food and I’m not even dining in where you at least pay for ambiance, food and comfort.
This is a black owned business and I will continue to support because I really like the shrimp!!! It’s also right in my neighborhood and I want to invest my money in people who I can relate to… BUT what grind my gears is the lack of customer service in urban areas I don’t get it how can you run a business in the service category but treat your customers like you’re doing them a favor and they’re getting something for free??? This needs to seriously stop it’s not cute nor is it productive in the long haul. customers don’t want to be worshipped but we do want to be appreciated a restaurant thrives on more than good shrimp and a relatable face…

The food is nasty the grease is dirty and the jumbo crab cakes is nothing but dough
No crabs meat never ever will return. Waste of money

The fish is very good, but the wait too long. I tried calling ahead but the phone number didn’t work. I drove from Brooklyn based on my uncle recommendation (he has live in Harlem since the 50’s). Definitely needs work updating and modernizing…

the food I ordered was really good except the scallops and crab cake which was very misleading because I didn’t taste or see any sign of crab in the cake besides the stuffing or breading mixture. The scallops were very tiny and not tasty for the price. The shrimp, whiting, collards and potato salad are good recommendation to order, they all have great flavor. Definitely better than a few seafood places in Harlem.

I go in to get fish and chips on good Friday at 8 pm and they are not taking orders for 30 minutes because they are changing the oil! Are you serious?! Completely annoyed as I had been hanging out for it all day and walked 10 minutes to get there. Will probably never make an effort to go back there. Thumbs down.

Two stars because the food they serve is well cooked and seasoned. No stars because they cannot handle delivery as anyone else that has tried, has found out.
I’ve tried the catfish, whiting, Mac n cheese, side salad, collard greens, yams, and shrimp. It was all tasty but you may not get your order if you use seamless or call your order in. Your only guarantee of getting your food and getting it right is to go in person.
Regarding the delivery: it was so bad that seamless decided to refund my money because they could not reach anyone with sense at the establishment. First delivery was ok but dishes were Mixed up. Second time, they never showed. Third time: there will never be one. They shouldnt offer a service they cannot execute.

The food is pretty good for the most part but there are times they will give you greasy over cook fish. I give them 3 starts because the food is pretty good and the prices are great. The grade more so has to do with the professionalism, the time it take for your order to be taken, and the time to get you order.
I think it’s best to call the order in. I definitely would never do delivery. They are not organized enough to truly provide that service.
I usually get a fish sandwich but house special seems like the most popular dish.

Look no further for a delicious high quality fast seafood restaurant. My wife and I had the whiting fish and catfish and chips our first time there. The result: we went back the next day right after work for more. It’s that good. We were talking about getting more all day so we did it.
I highly recommend you get the catfish. Place also makes a mean Mac and cheese side dish. We haven’t yet tried other things. For example they have chicken too. But we don’t doubt that everything here is really good.
The food here is high quality. The fish is breaded just right and not overdone. Also there is no greasy texture to the food, nor can you see grease on your fingers, which is remarkable for fried fishes. Very well done.
Lastly, the service here is great. Very friendly. And above all prompt! You’re in and out in 10 minutes after your order as everything here is cooked to order. Prompt service in Harlem is a huge, huge plus as it’s not common. You cannot go wrong at this place at all. Can’t wait to go back soon.
