Ditto to the latest reviewer: we all felt this was too expensive for a standard hotpot experience. $ 30 for food before tax + any drinks with alcohol??? Brace yourself for shock when the check comes! That said, I liked the medium spicy beef broth, I thought there was a great variety of things to put in the hotpot(table favorites were fish, fish balls, and meatballs), tasty side sauces, and the fact is, you can probably get in here on a weekend night without a rez.

Im actually giving 3.5 stars to this Cool little joint for some chinese style hotpot. $ 29.99 for all u can eat hot pot, beverages and ice cream. Best part is the blue crab… Killing it!!! I like that you can also make your own sauce at a little buffet like station with all the condiments. Staff was really friendly and accommodating especially Rong who had to deal with 2 bratty kids. Got my hotpot fix but nothing beats the BAY with all u can drink Too!!!

One star off for the price. I’m too used to paying $ 20 only for AYCE hotpot so the higher pricing here caught me off guard. This is a family owned place without the amazing interior design that 99 Favor Taste or Hometown Hot Pot has. It’s actually a really run down looking store front and you will definitely miss it if you don’t look for their store sign. It blends in with the rest of the Asian Chinatown stores. Like I said, with the ~$ 10 extra price compared to most $ 20AYCE hot pot places, you’re basically paying for unlimited drinks and ice cream(which is also just a way to get you filled up quicker without eating all their more costly food items). Let me start off with food: You get a sheets of paper where you mark down which soup base you want for your pot and the food items you want bought out to you. Their kimchi soup base was spicy! So beware. The food selection is basic like every other hot pot place. However, the difference lies in between the way they slice their meat. If you been to 99 Favor Taste before, you would know that while they give you a lot of meat slices per order/plate, the meat slices are very thin. However, at Hou Yi, they come out in little square boxes and while there’s probably only like 4 – 6 slices in each box/order, these slices are really thick and fresh. That’s pretty much the most notable point in the food selection. Oh, also, their sauce station was lacking and not very sanitary. However, like I said the reason for the pricier meal is because of the inclusion of unlimited drinks and ice cream. Let me tell you, when they say unlimited, YES. The ice cream flavors and drink options are pretty impressive. They have a whole fridge filled with ice cream which you can serve yourself, either bowl style or waffle cone style. They have flavors ranging from green tea to double chocolate chip. I only tried the green tea ’cause I was too full. Their ice cream is homemade so the selection is pretty impressive. Not your typical chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, like 99 Favor Taste. Drinks: They have a whole fridge filled with Asian canned drinks like Herbal tea, Yakult yogurt drinks, grass jelly, etc. You’re welcome to grab as much cans of drinks as you want. I got a bit too excited upon seeing my unlimited choice of drinks and grabbed a whole bunch before I even started eating. If canned drinks aren’t your style, they also have hot tea, herbal tea and a lemonade machine. They also have a soda machine next to the ice cream fridge. So there is really endless choices of drinks. I guess you can say that it’s well worth the price but honestly, while I was excited to see all these options, at the end of the day, I’m coming here for the hot pot and not the drinks or ice cream so I rather go to a cheaper place for solely the food. This place wasn’t as well ventilated since it’s a small place and there are a lot of tables packed next to each other. It got pretty hot in there but it’s to be expected when you go hot pot anyways so that wasn’t much of an issue. They also place a bag over your jacket and bag so the smell won’t seep into your clothing and linger after you leave. Don’t think it really helped since my hair and shirt was going to end up smelling like hot pot anyways. Overall, definitely worth a try!

What the heck is Hot Pot? We tried two other restaurants in the area but couldn’t get seated in less than a couple of hours. So we went to our trusty Unilocal app and found this jewel. For the uninitiated(i.e. Yours truly) hot pot is Asian Fondue cooking. You check boxes on a form to order. First you select the two broths(we did one beef regular and one beef broth mild spicy), the meats you want(beef, chicken, pork and seafood) and the veggies(tons to choose from) and noodles. Then while they heat up the broth and get all the ingredients, you select the drinks you want and make your own dipping sauce and start cooking. When you’re done they also have a great selection of ice cream. Wow. Can’t say enough good things. Food was outstanding and it’s all you can eat in two hours. Great place. Wish we had one in Albuquerque.

$ 30 per person you got everything unlimited including soft drinks. It is wonderful. The service is excellent too! The crab is really fresh, we ordered at least 10 plates. The only drawback is that they don’t offer too many food options like 99 Taste hotpot.

I love hot pot and I crave hotpot during all seasons but especially on a cold day. Today was that day. I was easily able to make a reservation for 4 the day of and was seated almost immediately when I arrived. The restaurant was not packed but had customers steadily coming and leaving. The restaurant was a lot more smaller than I had expected and seating was not the most comfortable; I felt squished by the lack of space and overwhelmed by all the noise. I rate a hot pot establishment based on the soup base and freshness of ingredients because honestly, it’s very hard to screw up hot pot. I ordered the tomatoes and mushroom base and the Vietnam coconut curry base; both were average to me. The ingredients were fresh which is a thumbs up but again, nothing special in presentation or seasoning. There also wasn’t parricularly more of a selection than other hot pot establishments. I love the selection of drinks especially the honey lemon tea they have swirling around in the dispenser in the front. the self serve ice cream was also a plus. However, I was somewhat appalled by their restrooms. The one on the main floor doesn’t flush and the one in the basement seems to be someone’s home bathroom; there was a towel, hair dryer, and toothbrush among other amenities in the bathroom. Shouldn’t you keep that bathroom private? For $ 37.50 per person, I would not return. I rather hot pot at home.

One of the first AYCE hot pot place in Chinatown that I’ve tried. I feel ripped off. The service was slow for our table. There is a fridge of all you can drink for free rom chinese ice tea to coconut milk and others. So when we sat down and ordered we asked the waitress if the beers were all you can drink. She said no they are $ 1.00 per bottle. I was happy to hear that! But when they bill came out the beers came up to $ 4 per bottle and when I asked the girl who said they were $ 1.00 denied what she had told me and said it has been always $ 4.00 The price for 4 people came up to $ 160 which was not worth it.

Great for groups. It’s very dim inside. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. They have quite a selection of Asian brand drinks and their homemade juices that’s for all you can drink to go along with the all your can eat hotpot. The soup base I got was regular and spicy. It’s was decent. They gave us bags to put our jackets in so the smell of the hotpot wouldn’t catch onto our clothing. I thought that was really considerate and helpful. I wouldn’t want to walk around smelling like hotpot. They also have this large selection of all your can eat ice cream. Well rounded from start to finish. It’s basically all you can eat EVERYTHING. I love this concept! Only place where you can have different selections of all you can eat AND drink. At the price of $ 35 per person, it’s pretty worth it.

The 4 of us came on a Thursday night @ 5:30(we called the day before for a reservation, which they accepted, but it certainly wasn’t necessary). We capitalized on hot pot plus unlimited drinks from the fridge and unlimited Perry’s ice cream(some flavors icy, others liquid) from the freezer for $ 35 pp after tax + tip, and enjoyed ourselves. Service was solid and the food emerged quickly once ordered.

Came here on a Thursday night to enjoy my favorite food in the world: hot pot! One word of caution for anyone eating hot pot, do not wear super nice clothes because you will smell like hot pot afterwards lol. Also, I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you are trying to go out afterwards for the same reason, unless hot pot is your favorite perfume/cologne scent. There are basically three main options for AYCE hot pot in the Manhattan Chinatown area: Hou Yi, 99 Favors Taste, and Hometown(the newest one). In terms of atmosphere, Hometown is by far better than the other two, but in terms of the variety of foods and taste, I would give Hou Yi my vote. Although it is a little more pricey than the other two(~$ 30 before tip for AYCE), Hou Yi makes up for it with the flavor/variety of their hot pot broth and also the selection of items you can order. Hou Yi offers a lot more drink options(honey lemon tea, plum juice, yakult, wan lao ji, etc.) and also includes some more premium seafood items(shrimp and crab) at no additional charge. Additionally, they have an extensive ice cream bar with around 12 different flavors of ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth after the hot pot. For us, we ordered the half and half pot with the spicy beef(medium spice) and beef herb broth. Just a warning, although we ordered medium for the spicy beef broth, it packed quite a punch and I had to get up multiple times to refill my honey lemon tea. But since I love spicy, it was nonetheless delicious. As for side dishes, everything was served very quickly and the portions were just right for our group of five people. The one downside of my experience was the attentiveness of the servers. At one point, our hot pot broth was about to be boiled away and I had to track down the server in order to add more broth to our pot. But to me, this is not as big of a problem since AYCE hot pot is more of a do it yourself experience anyways. Overall, I definitely recommend coming to Hou Yi for hot pot especially if you do not want to wait as long as the other options and also want a variety of options for broths, hot pot items, drinks, and dessert.

I made a reservation for 7pm on a Tuesday evening, and it wasn’t very packed when we arrived. But in no time flat, the tables started to fill-up. We got the kimchee spicy broth(still pretty spicy, even at the mild level) and the beef with herbs, which was SO good. Of the side options, I loved the fish balls the most, and I do enjoy the mix your own dipping sauce station(what genius!) along with the ice-cream bar. We ordered quite a few rounds and the wood ear mushrooms were fantastic for veggie choices. Service was just ok. They could have been a little more attentive, and the speech we got at the start, to not eat too much, was rather off putting. I’m not saying be a glutton, but what’s the point of an AYCE? We got weird, oddly judge-y looks, every time we ordered another round of food. Next time around? I’d pick the shin ramen next time around, not the Udon(just so-so). I’d come back.

I love this place! Unlike other all-you-can-eat hotpot places, Hou Yi also offers you different kinds of drinks(yakult, sweet tea, etc) and a lot of different flavored ice cream. The food is also delicious. I love all their food and soup choices(especially the spicy one). Although, the portions for each order is kind of small. So if I ordered an order of beef, it would come in a little box and I would kill it in five minutes. So I’d have to keep asking the staff to bring me another order. Moreover, your first order of meat is always really good quality. But after like the 3rd order, the quality of meat starts to diminish. It’s not as enjoyable, but it’s not worth making a big fuss about it. Nevertheless, I would still recommend this place. Make a reservation beforehand to avoid waiting! IMO: Better than 99 Favors.

I am a HUGE fan of this place. LOVE how you can make a reservation — it definitely saves the hassle of waiting & not knowing how long until you’ll be seated. Word of advice: err on the side of caution when ordering anything spicy because when they say spicy, they mean it! I am a big fan of mouth-numbing spice and I only get the regularly spicy soup. If you have non-spice people in your group, you can do ½ and ½! The selection of meats & veggies is good — something for everyone! I also love ending the meal with some ice cream(also included with the price of the meal) This place is lively and fun for everyone — whether you’re a hot pot lover like me or you want to give it a try for the first time. COMEHUNGRY because you will leave STUFFED.

Was going to check out 99 Flavor as they had a better rating but they were completely booked, so ended up getting a reservation here pretty easily. Decent selection of meats and veggies. Wish seafood had unpeeled shrimp(I hate peeling my own cuz I’m lazy). Sauces are good/have variety(they have peanut butter too which I always like in my sauce), broth is decent. I ate WAY too much, good times. You also get free drinks and they have a ton of ice cream too(why though? I’m full, I don’t want dessert, but there’s like 10 ice cream flavors to try, so okay I GUESS I’ll try 3 flavors and then feel like I’m dying). Service was okay, could have been a little bit better. If you want ayce hot pot, this is definitely a viable option.

I used to go to 99 flavor taste but now I only go here in chinatown. Here are my reasons… 1. The broth is more flavorful and if we’re talking about hotpot that’s pretty important 2. My fiancée appreciates that they keep all their raw meats and seafood on separate plates it’s a sign of cleanliness

The meat selection is deliciously fresh. All the drinks are free with $ 30 buffet cost. You can even take ice cream to go. My friend and I spent 2 hours there — there was no wait on a sunday afternoon and they never rushed us to finish. We had some left over food but wasn’t being charged extra for it.

Glad to see that the hot pot craze is stirring in Chinatown. I have been here quite a few times now and have been satisfied each and every time. In the beginning, this place was always just moderately full but with all the hype of hot pot, reservations are a must for this place. I’ve also been a personal fan of this place. It is less hectic than 99 favor taste and the food is just as good. The service has been super nice and very accommodating. I am a big fan of their ma la tang, always giving that spicy kick I want. The herbal broth is flavorful. They provide everything quickly and efficiently. Great slices of meat(beef, pork, lamb, etc), seafood(crabs, squid, fish), noodles, and plenty of fish ball and veggie selections. It also comes with unlimited access to a bunch of drinks including apple cider soda and other Asian drink goodies as well as various flavors of ice cream. They also provide plastic coverings for your clothes to prevent it from smelling like the hot pot which is greatly appreciated. I think the only thing this place needs is more ventilation to suck up all the hot pot smell. Aside from that, this place is a great option for hot pot!

Went there on a Sunday night at 6:30 because 99 favor was packed and we were told that we have to wait until 9:00pm. When I called, we were told that if we can make it within 15 minutes, we will be seated right away. We rushed over and were seated right away as promised. The restaurant is quite small and narrow in comparison. Price for their AYCE hotpot is $ 29.99(pricier than 99 favor). However, with the higher price, they offer more flavors of icecream(10+ different flavors) and cones. They also offer free beverages, tea, soda, juice, and some chinese drinks that are prepackaged. They only offer one pot per table so don’t expect your own small pot. Their menu is much smaller, all their food is listed on one page. Service was decent. All in all, an OK alternative if you’re craving AYCE hotpot buffet but only if there is a long wait for 99 favor.

Eat your heart out at AYCE hot pot — with a much shorter wait! On a chilly New York day, there’s nothing quite like family surrounding a boiling pot of broth, dunking in meat, veggies, and other accoutrements. It’s a bit pricey for $ 30(Sunday night), but for the volume of meat you can eat, it’s worth it. I have to say, the original soup base is at the perfect seasoning level — I also got half kimchi broth, and that one DEFINITELY has a spicy kick to it(but not unbearably so!). Additionally, the free broth refills don’t make the soup any more salty, so you can drink the broth once you’re done eating. There’s heaps of condiments for your dipping pleasure, and there is a case of Taiwanese/Chinese drinks, some that I haven’t had in years, to accompany your meal! Really brought back memories of childhood and the good times I had in Taiwan. Service was surprisingly good for a Chinese restaurant, so flagging down a server is no problem at all. Additional perk: the folks here will wrap your jacket up in plastic so that it doesn’t smell funky after you’re doing gorging yourself on hot pot — Asians think of everything ;)

This place has no line and is located in the lower east side on 2nd ave near 5th street. If you get a reservation at 99 flavors– go there! This place is like last resort and you have a strong craving for hot pot. We got the half and half– regular broth with herbs and medium spicy broth. DONOTGETTHESPICYBROTH. YOURMOUTHWILLBEONFIREFORDAYS. I can take spicy but this another level… TOOMUCHFUEGO if that is possible. AND I had the medium spicy… we were so close to getting the spicy spicy but the waitress talked us out of it, THANKGOODNESS!!! I think my stomach would be set on fire. The regular broth was lacking flavor and I had to really rely on my sauce to get flavor. The spicy broth– all u taste is spicy so that’s a no go. They have a sauce making bar — typical hot pot place. It’s all you can drink… non– alcoholic beverages… still good, they have soda, water, slush, chinese drinks. The meat quality is not that great and flavorful. Some places will pre-marinate…nope. Don’t expect much. Service is pretty fast and attentive! They also put a bag over your coat on the chair to prevent smell and stains– thought that was pretty cool and different. The meat/broth is all average here, not many flavors– depends on what sauce you make to get flavor. If you’re desperate for hotpot and don’t wanna wait in line come here.(~30 a person)

I had promised to come back and write a review after revisiting Hou Yi. My first time at Hou Yi was last winter and I completely forgot to write a review but had craved Hou Yi for a whole year(I didn’t live in NY last year). Once the weather became remotely cold enough for hot pot, I got my myself over to Hou Yi to relive the hot pot extravaganza. BESTHOTPOTINTHECITY. First off, it’s all you can eat. I mean seriously, all you can eat for $ 25-$ 30(depending on the night) for 2 hours. Bomb dot com. Their selection of soup bases is pretty great, rivaled only by their selection of hot pot ingredients which was super extensive. Fishballs, meatballs, enoki mushrooms, lotus root, a variety of meats, veggies, corn, and even mini hotdogs(wtf?). That’s just the tip of the iceburg. Be warned that their spicy broth is very spicy. The sour cabbage broth is also a great option. We like to do the split pot with one side spicy and one side sour cabbage. The sauce bar is also impressively extensive. Drinks are unlimited, ranging from American fountain drinks to Chinese juice boxes and canned drinks. Oh, and Yakult. Lots of Yakult. Still not done. Ice cream. Endless ice cream for dessert. How does this even exist? I don’t understand. There are other options in the neighborhood, and I have yet to try them. But Hou Yi has my heart until then. I will be back for you. The wait can be ridiculously long. For dinner, go early(5PM) or late(9PM). If you go anytime during prime time, expect to wait at least an hour, if you’re lucky. PS I just found out that they opened a new location this month in Astor Place, which is fabulous because it’s much closer to where I live. I am so ready.

I’m going to assume everyone who comes here knows about 99 Favor Taste down the street. I came here because the wait at 99 was one hour and there was no wait here. Both are delicious and have a good selection of meats/vegetables. Hou Yi is a bit more expensive at $ 30AYCE but includes unlimited Asian drinks/ice cream and a better broth selection. The ‘spicy’ is really spicy! The waiters seemed to have a little trouble understanding when I spoke English but once I spoke Chinese, the service was great. When I was getting sauce, they wrapped my jacket in a plastic bag to avoid soup splashes and food aromas from sticking. 99 has a nicer interior(who doesn’t love private booths with pillows) and a better sauce station.

Squad going up, on a Sunday! Rolled into this joint as a backup but turns out the side piece became the main bitch. The food was good but the real hidden gem lies in their unlimited drinks — all varieties of Asian supermarket canned beverages. Had a shit ton of meat but make sure to get a ton of balls: FISHBALLS. Be sure to cap off your night with some unlimited ice cream that’ll turn the fire from the broth into a nice wintery delight.

My favorite hot pot place is in Irvine, CA(the little sheep). I only rate this place 3 stars because I’m a pescatarian and don’t know the quality of their meat. I don’t want to mislead their future non-vegetarian customers. Veggies were fresh. Great mushrooms — specifically. The crab was lacking of meat but savory nonetheless. Their broths were clean and delicious. We got the vegetarian and the Thai spicy(both mild) — the Thai spicy still turned out very spicy. You could hear many sniffles from our table. Lol. The place was filled with Chinese people(always a good sign) and was busy well into the night. Although lacking English fluency(or even casual proficiency), the staff was nice and fairly attentive. Cute bonus: they give plastic covers for the backs of your chairs to protect your purses/jackets. A nice little detail.

One of the few AYCE hot pot buffet in Chinatown. Even with that said I would choose to eat at another or even a non-AYCE. The place is small and pack that it would raise a concern if a fire ever did break out. Only one person can walk between the tables and chairs at a time. We were not offered plastic bags to cover our jackets like some other people did as well. Let’s move on the food tho. We got a herbal and coconut curry combo as the soup base. I do commend them for having more unique soup base with 3 levels of spiciness. Not much places do that. They also got unlimited Asian type drinks, herbal tea, and various flavored ice cream. The down side is that the portions given at a time regardless of party size will always be small. We would have to reorder often and sometimes right away again because they forgot part of our orders. With tips it came down to 40 $ per person for our party of 4. Maybe because it was the weekend that it was so expensive? We also had two beers but the waitress said it was $ 1 each, we asked twice, but on the bill it came out to be 4 $ each. I doubt I would be coming back here again. Come only if you want to try different kind of soup base and drink fruity Asian drinks.

This place is a great AYCE hotpot buffet It has good soup base, decent selection of food, drinks, and ice cream. Came here in Friday night at around 6:30. The wait time was roughly an hour. Some people were told the wait was roughly 90 minutes after us. When we finally sat down, I was hungry and I got my fill worth of food. Some unique things that separate hou yi from other hotpot buffets: — spam ham and hot dogs — slushie machine — station to get tea, fountain drinks — fountain ice tea — ice cream(not soft serve) with sugar cones — friendly staff

Sadly there aren’t that many hotpot spots in Manhattan so I’m sure every place is super popular in the winter. Similar to many others, I didn’t want to wait at 99 favors so came here for an early lunch. It’s a little weird that they vary pricing based on the day — and when I came it was $ 30 for AYCE. The selection was alright, but most notably they don’t have any type of glass or potato noodle or wintermelon on the menu. They also refill the pots with hot water rather than broth, which waters the soup down. Although with a strict 2 hour time limit you’re probably almost done anyways by the time they come around to refill. I thought it was a nice touch that they offer a wide variety of free(non alcoholic) drinks and ice cream. If you have time though I’d venture out of Manhattan for better hotpot.

Hou Yi is one of the two best all you can eat hotpot places in Chinatown. It’s normally $ 25 – 30 for AYCE beef or lamb(or chicken or pork, if that’s your cup o’ tea), blue crab, fish, shrimp, squid, fishbowls, veggies, noodles, and other hotpot mainstays. The price varies based on the day of the week or if it’s a holiday. Hou Yi’s hotpot meat is freshly cut to order, and you can see the man cut it behind the glass window. Their veggies and other items are stored in the open fridge. You also get a selection of free drinks, including soft drinks and Chinese milk teas, chrysanthemum, and more. Everything was delicious, but I think their broth needs work. 99 Favors a few blocks away has a much more flavorful broth, but Hou Yi has them beat in terms of fresh ingredients, hands down. The female manager is super friendly and came over to my table a few times to ask me how I was. When your meal is over(hopefully you order a few rounds of food), finish it off with free ice cream!

This was such a great experience ! We went there on a Wednesday after work and it wasn’t busy. You get a paper where you can mark which soup you want and all ingredients/meats you want. I couldn’t believed I could mark everything I wanted haha It came out really fast and everything was super fresh. The soup was great and a good spice. I can’t complain at all, it was amazing. After we are like for 5 people and we were 2 girls actually — they really came and ask if we wanted more and that they have an ice cream bar also. We were so full so we thankfully said no. The service was amazing, we told them it was our first time so they helped us with everything and were super nice !!! 5 stars for service and food! Definitely coming back. Oh also it’s like $ 27 something for all you can eat & drink. So let’s say $ 35 with tip and tax!!! So amazing

I came here with my peeps on a Monday night around 7:30pm — seated immediately, woooo! It’s very hard to find street parking around there but it’s possible if you’re patient. The place looked shady from outside but it doesn’t look too bad after you enter. A small place with lots of things everywhere! There is a sauce station, an ice cream area, and three areas for drinks(ranging from soda to lemonade to herbal tea to yogurt drink). We were seated and the server came and took our soup base order. We got half beef and half kimchi mild. ITWASNOTMILD. Well, for us, at least. It was really spicy! The server either misheard us or she accidentally put in extra peppers, or maybe we just suck. We gave up that side of the pot and only ate from the beef side. The beef soup was very tasty, I would get that again if I went back! The menu had a variety of things– meats, fishballs, veggies, noodles, seafood, a lot of food! We were so full and satisfied! The servers were very attentive. They came by as soon as we cleared up our plates; maybe because the place wasn’t too busy that night. I enjoyed my experience, it can’t go wrong with hotpot. For unlimited drinks, food, and ice cream, for a little over $ 30(including tax and tip), it was well worth it.

First, this location is leaps and bounds better than the old location, which was basically a hole in the wall(and not in a charming way). Granted, this location is more expensive, but for a bigger, cleaner space, better layout, better food and fresher ingredients, I have no problems paying more for it. It’s about $ 27 on the weeknights, more on weekends for two hours of hotpot with unlimited soft drinks(and ice cream). They had a nice selection of different broths to choose from and a long list of ingredients. We did half herbal chicken broth and half spicy Thai broth, which tasted a lot like Tom Yum soup. I didn’t care much for it and stuck to the chicken one. I like that the meat is freshly sliced. They have a pretty good variety of vegetables and some seafood. Sauce bar is fairly extensive. You get a lot of Asian soft drinks to choose from — juices, green teas, yogurt drink cups, etc. I tried the winter melon juice and was instantly hooked. It’s a little too sweet but with some ice water added it was quite addicting. They also offer plastic bags to cover your jackets to prevent the hot pot smell afterwards. All in all, a legit place for hot pot and definitely a good option when you can’t get into 99 Favor Taste.
