Food: 3⁄5 Service: 0⁄5 Overall terrible experience mainly due to the terrible service. Service: Absolutely terrible service from beginning to end. We were sat down and weren’t given water until 20 minutes in despite the fact the restaurant wasn’t that busy. We had a waiter come by about 5 minutes in which was fine and we asked to have a few minutes. After a few minutes we were ready to order and we looked around and our waiter was nowhere to be seen. we waited about 15 minutes before grabbing the bus boy, asking for water and our waiter so we could order. Bus boy was very nice. After 10 minutes we see our waiter come out and he goes to 4 other tables before taking our order. Waiter was incredibly slow. He takes our order and we get our appetizer pretty quickly but halfway through our appetizer someone else(presumably the manager) comes by to let us know one of the entrees we ordered was not available. We went ahead and ordered two appetizers to replace the entrée due to the limited selection on the entrée menu and dietary restrictions which was fine. We receive 2 of our dishes fairly quickly but our final dish never came. We told the terrible waiter we were still waiting for another dish when he stopped by and he said he would go check up on it and never came back. The manager walked by a bit later and I flagged her down to let her know that we were still waiting on our final dish and she went to go check only to come back to tell us that the waiter said he delivered the dish but of course, never did. We requested then to cancel the final dish and get the check. we gave our waiter two cards to split but when we received the check back there was only one card. Turns out the waiter gave our card to another table and he had to go hunt it down which happened to be a CORPORATECARD. The waiter even gave us attitude despite the fact he gave away one of our credit cards to another table. Absolutely unacceptable. While this was going on the manager brought us the dish on the house. which turned out to be borderline inedible. Tasteless and absolutely drenched in oil. Food: Duck Salad was ok and maybe lacking a bit on duck. Katsu was average at best. Would give it a 5/10, a 10 being Katsu I had in Tokyo and a 8⁄10 being the Katsu from Ootoya(which is overall cheaper). The panko was a bit too coarse and there were sections of the Katsu that were straight burnt and chewy like you would expect from delivery Katsu. The main body of the Katsu was not as tender as it should be. The sauce was ok and more unique. The Katsu came with steamed veggies rather than the traditional shredded cabbage but I think that was fine. Avocado rolls were fine. If you have sushi chefs who cant make an avocado roll you should probably just close your sushi restaurant. Chicken Gyoza was appalling. Meat had not taste and it was just drenched in oil so it was like eating solidified oil. These were by far the worst gyoza I have had in my life. Even worse than takeout.

King crab dumplings are awesome. Wife and I skipped dessert and got a 2nd order. Service and food was great. Prices were very good also.

Questions; Why do servers insist on taking my plate away while I am chewing my last bite? Why does the piece of sushi have to be so big I can barely chew it?

Great space an a decent menu. Nor really Japanese more on the Chinese kind of ingredients(the shumai was Chinese dumplings). The rolls are ok but on the pricey side considering the quality of the fish . The service is decent but spotty. It depends a lot on who you get. The highlight of the place is the layout and the interiors(it used to be a bank and at sine point a dean and de luca).

A little slow service at lunch but great food. Would go back. Get the tempura, the garlic shrimp and the duck spring rolls.

I disagree with many of the other reviews. While Haru is clearly an Americanized place, I didn’t find it to be particularly mediocre or expensive, two of the most common criticisms. I had about 8 people with me early on a Sunday evening and we were able to score a private room which was absolutely gorgeous. The alcohol selection was satisfactory and prices, especially for basic rolls, were fine, especially for NYC. Among us there was a large amount of diversity in experience with Japanese food and thus there were a lot of different things ordered with completely different expectations. Myself being among the most discerning, I got the sushi and sashimi combo for about $ 27 which was fresh and up to my standards. The service was consistently the same speed. We all had a great time and a great dinner.

Every so often, I come here with one particular client that likes this place. It is ok. Because of its location, it is expensive. I have tasted better. Service is really, really rushed, every time we have been here. They push to get you out.

I used to go to their location in midtown quite often after work and it was very good. I recently decided to try their downtown location. I found the bar area to be quite small and practically empty when I went on a Friday evening. The drinks were good and the sushi roll I had was good. Prices are reasonable. I will return.

Came for happy hour when the clock was just about to hit 5pm. The place was empty, with only about 4 patrons sitting at the bar. We opted for the bar as well, and looked through the very short HH menu. Nothing seemed appetizing, and with one glance, I knew this place wasn’t really all that authentic, so I opted to not eat here and go to Dina Rata after. We had a couple bottles of the HH hot sake though — those were fairly good. The place is clean and has a lot of seats. Décor is modern and cute with a lot of red light accents. It’s a cute drink-with-a-date-after-work spot.

I’ve frequented Haru on numerous occasions for the happy hour specials which is awesome considering the drinks and food are delicious set at a reasonable price. FiDi don’t generally have happy hour specials. Additionally, I’ve been here for dinner a few times and enjoyed the sea bass and sushi platter immensely. The quality of sushi is fresh and made just right. If you opt to order take out, I highly recommend the Sushi for Two. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but nonetheless you definitely know you will get quality mouth watering sushi. For FiDi, I think there are two sushi options –Haru and ISE.

I love this place. Their sushi is super fresh and they have a lot of really unique rolls. The gramercy park roll and park avenue roll are two of my favorites. The hot-chili garlic shrimp appetizer is also awesome. Somewhat trendy but not too stuffy atmosphere. great spot.

Happy Hour and Bar Review Only I have only been to Haru for post-work happy hour and their lychee martinis definitely hit the spot! Large bar with an attentive bartender, we were able to order our rounds of drinks, watch them get promptly made before us, order our food and be in and out in the span of 30 – 45 minutes — awesome! their pork buns were really good(but then again what isn’t when you’re 2 martinis deep, right?) I enjoyed the bar ambiance and modern décor at Haru. Didn’t seem like such a big bar area but it was not crowded at all and our bartender was very attentive. Decent prices, strong drinks, yummy snacks — I’d definitely be back for more happy hour.

Recently, I stopped here with my fiancée for a sushi dinner. Haru delivered a great experience: fantastic sushi and a solid service experience. Dennis our server had an extensive knowledge of the foods and was easily able to cater to my gluten food allergy. I was warned that all of their sauces include traditional soy sauce. The restaurant can provide gluten free soy on request. For sushi, he was able to steer me to some great selections of sushi rolls, including the whitefish jalapeño roll that was excellent. You can also order brown rice if you’re into that for your rolls. If you’re in for a delicious starter. Try the Symphony. It includes tuna, salmon, king crab and caviar. I had to have it without the sauce, but the caviar adds the perfect flavor to make it delicious. My fiancée had some with the sauce and she said it was delightful. My fiancée had the green tea cosmo and highly recommends the cocktail. She’s a green tea and cosmo drinker, so this delivered the best of both worlds. I had one of their saki flights that added to the sushi dining experience. A great dining experience: service & quality. I’ll certainly stop back again when i’m in FiDi.

Come here for happy hour a lot. The drinks are strong for their $ 8 price tag. The cucumber elderflower smash is my favorite. Super refreshing and delicious. Nice bonus that they now have happy hour on Saturday too. The green tea marg is good too as is their mojito. The string bean tempura is really good but doesn’t come with tempura sauce, I always add it on for $ 1 but really who wants to eat dry tempura? Edamame is a classic. Have come here for dinner too.

Fine for what it is… Americanized fusion Japanese food. Everything is here including the crazy drinks, cool atmosphere and pieces of sushi larger than a school bus. The food is flavorful enough but it’s far from authentic. Service was good. Prices were a bit above average but nothing too crazy. For lunch during the week you actually need reservations(why I can’t fathom when Ise which is a few blocks away and is much better does not) For dinner you can almost always walk in.

My sister and I were craving for Japanese food and we both happened to be in the area that day. Haru has never been our go-to Japanese guilty pleasure and will not be in the near future. We came during lunch hour and found the lunch specials to be of decent price($ 15 – 18 for a bento) but the selection just didn’t sound worthy of the word«special» — it really wasn’t. Instead, we decided to splurge and ordered the Shogatsu, Gramercy Park and Super Volcano rolls. To be completely honest, all of them weren’t too differentiated in taste as they all had some sort of sour cream and spicy tuna and fish roe. The Super Volcano roll was deep fried in tempura batter and just wasn’t particularly tasty. All in all, I felt that the meh rolls are pretty spendy(at least $ 14) and wasn’t really worth my money. I wish I’d listened to my heart and taken the subway to Astor Place or W Village for better Japanese food but there’s no one else to blame but myself for being a lazy pony.

If you’re looking for a good sushi fix, this is NOT the place you want to visit. The people who dine here probably fall into one of the following demographics: 1. Those who think California Roll = sushi 2. Can’t be bothered to leave the financial district 3. Tired bankers who can’t differentiate maguro and hamachi 4. Birthday coupon recipients(me!) I ordered the taco trios(meh) and one of the rolls, which I’ve forgotten the name. That pretty much sums up my dining experience: bland and utterly forgettable. Our server was so impersonal and robotic he would’ve blended right in with the overworked Wall Street types. Even with the birthday coupon I’ll be thinking twice about coming back next year. The only saving grace is their decent interior and ambiance which helps them avoid getting a one-star review.

My American(Caucasian) friend was ‘in it, to win it.’ He wanted the whole Japanese experience. Since I was too busy with work, I told him to pick a place, and we’d go(mistake, haha). As we arrived, with no prior research on my end, we waltzed into a trendy and upscale Japanese restaurant. Unbeknownst to me, order after order, was just building up the inevitable of … *drum roll* … SUB-PARSUSHI. DUNDUNDUNNN … and for that price, it was pretty disappointing. From portion size(teeny tiny) to quality of fish, I wasn’t too blown away but my colleague most certainly was. *sigh* We ordered a huge platter(see photo) consisting of… Super Dynamite, Rainbow, Perfect Fantasy, Kanpyo, Ume Shiso, Oshinko, Philadelphia, Chef’s Special, O-Toro Scallops, Haru Wasabi, and the KK sushi roll. O-Toro Scallops would be my fav out of the entire platter. I expected to be conflicted. :/ On behalf of my coworker, I rate Haru at 3 stars, rating the restaurant on a «case by case» scale, meaning that the quality and level of the food depends on the past experiences and current expectations of those who are consuming the food. For some, it’s amazing, for myself(and it looks like a few others who are avid/experienced sushi goers) it wasn’t great.

Basically an Americanized Japanese joint. Food is tasteless and average. I had the sashimi tiradito, trio of tacos, two pieces of uni sushi and sunomono. All pretty meh except for the uni, that was good. The sashimi was soaked in a plate of water when it arrived and there was very little wasabi to eat with it. Sunomono wasn’t impressive either. Small pieces and passable quality fish. The trio of tacos was worse, each one was suppose to highlight a different type of fish either salmon, tuna or yellowtail but I didn’t taste any of those. Each one I tasted either peppers, guac or onions. I guess they were stingy with their portions. If it wasn’t for the $ 30 birthday coupon I would NEVER eat here. The food is overpriced and far from authentic Japanese. The servers are pretty dead by the way, they’re talk like they’re on autopilot. It should be illegal for the prices they charge here but guess what, you’re at Wall Street, full of mr money bags who dine here regularly. Sorry guys I don’t care that you’re rich but you can’t buy good taste. (This place only got an extra star for the uni and interior, otherwise avoid at all costs)
