I went a couple of weeks ago. The haircut and style came out good,(not great on the cut). I was told they could take me immediately, but they ended up washing my hair and leaving me to sit and wait for 40 minutes with wet hair. I was assigned to one person, but another stylist was eating and doing her makeup while I was just there waiting. No one even checked up on me. By the time the lady was ready to do my hair, it had to be re-washed. They also charged me upfront, so I couldn’t leave to go anywhere else. I wouldn’t go back, and as I said the style was alright. The service was bad, so, it’s a no for me.

I keep learning with Unilocal to not cross out the 3 star businesses entirely. They have the best special you could ask for: wash, cut, dry(with rollers or without), for $ 15 Mon-Thurs. They add $ 3 extra for long hair but that is still cheaper than anywhere in Manhattan, Bronx or Queens. They are a Dominican hair salon through and through. Your hair will come out straighter than a pin. Speak up if you have any questions, concerns, comments about how you want your stuff done with the stylist before/during the process. It might take you a while to find who’s a good fit for you. I’ve been around since 2001 and currently I go to #14(Isa) & #7(Marisol). In the end they can be loud in the phone while doing your hair, crass with their jokes, and apathetic with their demeanor sometimes but they’re rarely inconsistent. You will get what you want at a more than reasonable price just don’t expect the spa experience at Washington Heights.

DONOTGOTOTHISPLACEHAIRMATICS! I had the worst expedience of my life in this place! My hair is completely natural, HEALTHY, with no processing or chemical treatments. I usually blow dry it. I went to Hairmatics(located on Broadway and 207) on Thursday the 3rd of July, and the hair dresser Janet(seat #6) dried my hair in a way that I cant explain, she damaged it all. When I washed my hair, few days after the visit, my hair fell off by chucks. I panic and immediately went to the doctor, my doctor said everything with my health was fine, and that my hair had been badly damaged. He even said I should wait at least a month to blow dry it again. This has been the worst experience ever with my hair. I would recommend AGAINST this place. Is cheap and fast, but, at what cost. In words of my doctor, this hair dresses was an animal that burn my hair. DONOTGOTOTHISPLACEHAIRMATICS

Horrible. I asked the male(receptionist) that I wanted a trim and to give me a hairdresser that was fluent in English. He gave me some young lady that could not speak an ounce of English. I said no layers and 2 inches trim. She clearly did not understand because she gave me layers and it was not a trim — it was a haircut! Never coming back to this place. I don’t even think that lady went to cosmetology school. Heading back to Supercuts for next time.

I absolutely would recommend this place to any girl with curly hair and wants their hair blown out straight for a steal. The price and the quality of work are so worth the trip to The Heights. My stylist #11 Dulce is awesome. I was in and out the salon very quickly. My hair looks amazing and she only trimmed the dried dead hair ends and didn’t go scissor happy and chop off a chunk without my consent like most salons.

You know how there’s always a girl who is crazy about her hair? Yeaa? That’s me. I have high expectations when it comes to my bangs and, of course, the rest of my hair. I remember coming here once and getting my bangs trimmed by some lady in the back(#15, but I no longer see her there), and it was a complete mess… I complained about it, and nothing was done. I did not have a specific person to go to, but I always liked #14, but because of her long lines, I would go to a hair stylist with less people. After this incident, I decided to start doing my hair with one of the ladies in the front, and, ever since then, I have been doing my hair with her. She is an overall cool person, always making me laugh, and entertaining me with her ways. However, while getting my hair done with her, I realized the poor service that the other women offer… So that my story makes sense, you need to understand that one person washes your hair, and another blow dries it… or does whatever it is that you want. About 95% of the hair stylists here talk about each other, and their clients. They, also, criticize, in Spanish, African-American girls with a certain types of hair. They think that they are not understood because they are speaking in Spanish. Another problem they have is that they usually have two people washing customers’ hairs at a time, and sometimes only one, and the lines get long, and they allow skipping. Today I had a problem with this! I was waiting to get my hair washed, and she told a girl to step up so that her hair could be washed… I told her that I was supposed to be next, and that I have been waiting for longer. This was when another hair stylist got into the conversation and said that my hair stylist was not there yet. I told her that I knew MY hair stylist is not there yet, but that she was on her way. I also told her that I was going to do a hair treatment, so I needed to start before my actual hair stylist got there. She then stood quiet, and that was when #6 stepped in, trying to be a hero, and to start instigating, and she started laughing at what I said. I know she has her rude ways, so I asked her what was so funny and she exploded, trying to act tough, and make a show… TOOBAD I WASNOTHAVINGTHAT! I KNOWSHEDOESNOTACTLIKETHATOUTINTHESTREETS… She told me that she can laugh at whatever she wants, and that if I was in a bad mood to jump off the bridge… «WAITWHAT?! Bad mood for what? I am living life, I am in school, I am pretty, I have beautiful hair… LIFEISGREATMA’!» HAHAHA, anyways, she kept on talking all her drama, and acting like she was going to do something! Moral of the story: THEYGOSSIPANDLOVEDRAMA; THEYACTTOUGH. For like the past few months, I have been looking into other salons, but since I am crazy about my hair, and I only trust one lady with my bangs, it has been a little difficult. BUT I AMDETERMINEDNOWTOCHANGEMYHAIRSTYLIST, because of the way this salon works… So many other salons with better customer service and I was still going here, WHAT A SHAME! I know I can rely on Unilocal to help me find a better salon! :)

I’ve been here a lot. I like it. A blow dry is $ 18.95, and they can do blow dry, rollers, or flat iron. The place is smoky and plays fun reggaeton music, the cashier guy is nice and funny, and the girls are quick. Even the ‘worst’ blow dry I’ve gotten here is better than if I tried to do it myself. It’s very far uptown(I live in the 60s) but I’ll hop on the 1 and take the journey uptown just so I can look cute and get my straight hair on. Holler.

Really love this place! This is your typical Hispanic hair salon. It’s loud at times with music and tons of people talking at once but the girls are super sweet and will listen to what you want. They have never tried to talk me into getting something I don’t want like in some other salons or to buy products. They are family-friendly so you can take your children. They are open late. All in all, a wonderful salon. Prices do go up on the weekend so try to go Monday through Thursday.

I have been going here faithfully for 7 years now. There’s only one person I trust with chemicals in my hair at this moment of my life and she works in this location. It is true that it gets ridiculously busy, but most beauty parlors get packed on saturdays afternoon. My piece of advise is get there around 11 am and you’ll never have to wait. Plus it’s really cheap; a full head of highlights is $ 45.

I really want to give this place 5 stars. No one touches my hair but two ladies at this place. When they seat me in their chair I can watch a movie on my phone and not think until its time to look up and say how much I love it. I like that they have shampoo girls because it expedites things since this place can get BUSY! I’ve waited over an hour one time to get my hair washed. Once I even got my money back and left. It’s risky but if you’ve got the time and want an excellent blow out this is the place. Cons: I’d never get my hair dyed here. Nor would I get anything other than a trim… it’s just not what these ladies are trained to do. Sometimes the front desk girl thinks she’s at a club and the music can get deafening… eek. Oh, and I freak out and flat out tell them to stop if they have scissors(for a trim) or the flat iron in their hands and kids are running around. I’ve been coming to this and the Dyckman location for almost 10 years. There’s even a Dominican salon one block away from me in queens but I always prefer this one.
