Great place to have a Gyro coming out of Penn Station. Meats look good and the fresh veggies on top are a great portion. Bread was warm and soft with paprika on top. Great for a quick meal on the go.

Gyros are enormous and taste great, I give them that. But the price is insane! I payed $ 17 for two chicken gyros when I could have gotten the same thing from a food truck across the road — for $ 6 a piece. The only reason I didn’t is because I had no cash, so I guess there is a plus to this Gyro II place — they accept cards. A minus, apart from the price, is the fact that they don’t have vegetarian options(was craving falafel that day, so the news made me sad) They share a space with a pizza stand, and you can sit down to eat inside. Why they had 6 people of staff behind the counter remains a mystery to me — they weren’t busy at 1pm on a Thursday.

I was introduced here in 1982. The best then the best now. The sauce is the secret. Always extra sauce let it drip down your face all over your neck. Just ask for extra napkins

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I found their gyro to be underwhelming. The pita was a little too dry. The lamb/beef(mystery meat) lacked really good flavor and last by not least, the white sauce… is not tzatziki. Described by another Unilocaler as being coleslaw dressing was spot on! It should be over shredded cabbage instead of on a gyro. Myth Busted!

Bad Greek good food. If you can call it Greek food. I ordered the chicken gyro. The chicken was spongy, the sauce was overly sour and tasted more like bad ranch sauce. The pita was dry and crunchy. Move on.

HORRIBLE. The tzatziki sauce was sweet. I’ve never had tzatziki sweet sauce. Asked for a souvlaki and the meat was hard and tasteless. My partner had the gyro and it was just OK. I’ve had better. don’t recommend this place. I should have gone to Wendy’s seriously.

Had a quick bite to eat yesterday before a concert and decided on a gyro. If you compare this to gyros you would get from a greek neighborhood, from Greece, or from a Greek fest/Grecian festival, forewarning is that you will be disappointed. It was edible and If you are hungry(which I was) it will get the job done. I had to ask for a fresh pita because the person was going to give me the one that had been sitting out which should have sent me elsewhere, but I ignored my senses and just requested a new pita. The size was satisfactory but it was overly greasy and the lamb didn’t taste like lamb at all. The sauce was pretty okay though. After all of the reviews, I was pretty underwhelmed. I will know to pass it over for next time though. By the way, my friend had pizza and wasn’t very impressed either. We also noticed that they brought the pizza pies from somewhere downstairs… (FTR: We are both native New Yorkers to determine what NY pizza should taste like and I am very well traveled and very affiliated with the Greek community and would know what an authentic gyro would taste like.)

I was craving a Gyro so I gave it a try. The experience was sub par. The meat was pre sliced and stored in a tray which dried it out and then the tzatziki sauce was watery and strangely sweet(not a good thing). Did not feel great afterwards. I would not go back.

Best gyros I’ve ever had. Certainly best in NYC. The sauce is like a sweet ranch sauce. the chicken and lamb are always shaved off the rotissere. the lettuce is chopped well .the pita bread is legit. and they hit it off with paprika. It’s not cucumber in taste like some gyros with tzatziki… it’s more of a sweet tasting rendition of the classic. and definitely the best ive had. It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve been there and my only complaint was the price. looks like it’s gone up even more… but i guess that’s no suprise

Not the worst but definitely NOT the best. Not your original type of gyro and NOT worth the cost. –Pita bread taste more like flat fried dough –Meat was warm not hot like it should –Sauce was not your regular white sauce… Taste like Miracle Whip mayo with a dash of paprika –unfamiliar sweetness Overall, never going back!!! Disappointed since the review gave it a decent rating. Just as an FYI –food was prepped and under the counter but not unusual to see. You know food is not going to be hot and considering I went on a Wednesday at 12:45PM –surprised! Good luck if you try but don’t have high expectations –yelp some street meat food. There’s a spot I would love to try on 53rd Street and 6th -«Halal Guys». They got great reviews! Check it out

Looking for a delicious meal near Madison Square Garden that is filing and won’t break the bank? HERE. The best gyros in NYC! The gyros sandwich is truly the best I’ve tried in my life. Not an overstatement. You will agree once you try it, the sauce in particular. There is something in it that adds a layer of extravagance and sets the gyro apart from other gyro sandwiches you have tried. It’s similar to Halal guys white sauce, but slightly sour and not too thick and messy. Note there is additional seating upstairs with utensils, napkins, water, and clean bathrooms. Only downside is no refills on drinks. Question is, is it enforced?

Sometimes I wished I lived closer to Manhattan just for these Gyros. Went there a little late today and no line, I was in and out in 3 mins. The Gyros are really good, made right in front of you, and you can see that everything’s nice and fresh, staff there are friendly, now to the sauce, I’m not much of a tzatziki sauce fan, but this sauce I could probably drink this stuff, I have no clue to what’s in it, don’t care! It’s that good! If someone knows the secret to this sauce I might pay you for it. So if you’re in the area I definitely recommend eating there.

Came at 9.20pm This not an authentic Giro, I mean not even close. Bread is not fresh, not toasted. It won’t be crusty. Meat was not cut in front of me, picked up under the counter(maybe due to the time of my order). This white sauce is not to my taste it’s sweet and not garlicky. For 8,5USD it’s pricey.

Visited this place with a friend from NJ. The chicken gyro sandwich was pretty good. There’s a few tables inside, so I prefer this place over some of the gyro carts if I’m not in a rush or on the go.

This place has the absolut best gyros in the whole NYC! Customer service is average and it moves in a fast pace, I’m just giving 1 less start because of the crowd, get ready to see some nefarious characters around, but nothing really to be worried about. Still I’ve been coming here for more than 20 years! I love it!

Here are some of my observations of this gyro place: –The gyro sandwich is overpriced at $ 8.50. It is a bit bigger than the smaller sandwiches most places sell for like $ 4 or $ 5, but not much bigger. –It appears that the meat and pita breads sit around all day. I came here around 3pm and the meat was lukewarm and was starting to dry out. The pita bread looked like it had been grilled been earlier, and when I received it, it was lukewarm and had started to become rubbery. –The white sauce they use here is not the normal thick tzatziki sauce. It is a watery salad dressing type sauce that tastes very sweet(sugar added perhaps). It tasted okay actually, but I think it is actually too sweet.

I happen to be in the area and carving a gyro. I look up greek food on Unilocal it points me to this establishment and all these reviews raving about their gyros and how awesome the sauce is. Tried the gyro and got extra sauce like everyone recommended. It tasted horrible. Sauce was too sweet and the lamb did not taste good. The lamb seemed extremely processed. I expect a place called gyro to be good at GYROS. The sauce was not authentic tzatziki and tastes more like a thin sweet salad dressing. I gave it 2 stars because the establishment was clean and good customer service. I know and love greek food. I didn’t love anything about it. I took 4 bites and threw it away.

Had the lamb gyro and it was amazing! The pita is stuffed to the point that I wasn’t exactly sure how I was supposed to eat it, but I managed to figure it out, and it was awesome. Gyro, Greek fries and a drink for just about $ 10. Highly recommended!

My stepdad simply loves this place and makes it a point to go to New York every time he visits me in New Jersey just for the gyros at Gyro II. Thankfully, it’s right around the corner from 33rd St. PATH and right across the street from MSG so it’s never a hassle getting here once we arrive in the City by train. If my stepdad were writing this review, he’d be giving it 5 stars. But he’s not writing my review. I’m writing my review. And I’m giving it 4 stars. Why? The gyros are delicious. There’s no debating that. The bread and vegetables are always fresh and the meat is packed with flavor. The one element of the gyro I do call into question, however, is the tzatziki sauce. It has no taste of cucumber whatsoever, and that’s why my stepdad loves it. To me, it tastes more like Ranch dressing. I don’t know whether they make the sauce on site or buy it from a distributor, but it hasn’t changed since my stepdad and I have been going here. Aside from that one minor gripe, the place is disgusting. The men’s bathroom looks like a crime scene with more graffiti than the Berlin Wall. I’d recommend just getting your food to go, but the problem with gyros is that if you get them to go, the meat causes the bread to get soggy and everything is a mess by the time you unpack it. I know this from experience because my stepdad got six of them to go after he ate one on site. That’s not a typo. He got six of them to go. In fairness, he only ate three of the six. Also, the price of the gyros has been going up. We remember when it was just over $ 6, but on our most recent trip, it was $ 8.50. Then again, you should be stuffed after eating it, and what hasn’t been going up in price in NYC? Overall, this is a great place to stop before or after an event at the Garden. The gyros will be far cheaper and far more delicious than anything you can get inside the arena. Spinelli’s Pizza also shares the space with Gyro II so not everyone in your group has to get the same thing.
