I had a perfectly pleasant experience here! Came in with a glasses prescription from another doctor, walked out with new frames ordered in 20 minutes. The prices appeared to be very reasonable for designer frames, much better than what I was quoted at Cohen’s Fashion Optical for several pairs. As of this writing, they have a $ 75-off coupon on their website — just be aware you can’t combine that discount with any discount your vision insurance plan my offer.

I had a great experience getting my glasses here. The entire process was very smooth. I saw Dr. Johan Berman for my eye exam and he was excellent. He was very, very polite and explained everything very well. I had some questions regarding the impact of my migraines on my vision since my left eye always hurts when I get one. He asked questions to understand my condition and gave me his opinion. I felt that he cared about my question and wanted to get me the right answer. The selection was great here. There were many brands and types of frames to choose from. The price points were wide so you could find a frame that fits your budget. At no point did I ever feel the staff was trying to upsell me. Actually, they laid out all of my options from type of lenses, coatings, insurance coverage, and satisfactorily answered all my questions. I was able to figure out what was best for me from the information rather than just getting the most expensive of all options. While I waited to see the eye doctor(~15 mins) I witnessed how helpful the staff were to the other customers. One fixed the balance of the frames at no charge and explained to the lady why they came out of balance and what to do the prevent it in the future. Another was helping a mother and daughter figure out which frames looked the best and all the options as they did with me. They said the glasses will take around 3 — 4 days to make, which sounded very reasonable. So to my surprise, I got a call the very next day telling me my glasses are ready for pick up! I picked them up and they helped adjust the frame. They were perfect. The lenses appeared high quality. I left quite happy. I will definitely come back here again if I ever needed another pair.

i have purchased three VERY expensive glasses here. My Persol sunglasses left hinge came off recently. When i went to the store they told me the part is no longer available and that there is nothing else i can do except buy a new pair. I love my sunglasses and didn’t want to buy another pair so I went to Cohen’s optical(on Madison and 42nd) and they referred me to a jeweler(around the block from GCO) and they fixed it completely for $ 45!!! I saved over $ 500. Well GCO with service(or lack of) service like yours i will never be back. You can’t expect people to spend a HUGE amount of money for plastic and glass and not go out of your way to accommodate them.

The location is super convenient, and the prices are fair for exam, lens fitting, and contact lenses(provided with a rebate.) The staff is efficient and the office is clean.

Saved my life with an on-the-spot contact lens replacement — if not for these nice folks my day in Manhattan would have been a literal blur. It speaks volumes about a business when they will help a stranger, at no cost, because they value their reputation. Kudos, and I will return to pick out some great sunglasses…

Just a huge shout out and thank you to the guys at GCO for repairing my sunglasses and getting me on my way in about 5 minutes. I’ll be in next time I need glasses to see you for sure! Thanks!

I have somewhat complicated eyes(very minor astigmatism + very high prescription) and had to go back for multiple contact fittings. Dr. Sohn seemed pretty uninterested in helping me find something comfortable and didn’t seem to understand that it would take me more than three seconds to decide if I liked a pair of contacts. I also felt like she was trying to rush me out of her office. The front desk staff was friendly, but no one ever explained their return policy or their refitting/sample policy.

This is Grand Central Optical located in the Lexington Passage of Grand Central Station. There’s another location a few blocks away on Madison. I switched jobs and ran out of contacts simultaneously, and GCO was one of the only places to accept my new insurance(Davis Vision). This was an efficient, fairly priced visit for me. I made an appointment the day before, was seen on time, and will have new contacts by the end of the week. Dr. Sohn was pretty thorough with the exam. I only did contacts(not glasses) but I wound up paying less than I previously have for a year’s supply.

Service is fast and excellent. GCO has created 2 pair of glasses for me in 24 hours. The quality was perfect both times. I purchased a pair of rimless glasses, and any fault would be easily detected. They may be pricey, but you get what you pay for!

Having just had the most horrible optical experience I am compelled to write about my multiple Grand Central Optical visits. Every year as the weather starts to warm up, I like to check this spot out to see what is on trend for sunglasses. The associates know their stuff and make wonderful recommendations. They have the newest styles and all the lux brands, Oliver Peoples, Chanel, Gucci… and Bonus they take Flex Spending.

1 star is for doctor. Incapable sales people. Bold big guy(I think Gregg?) is called out here as in earlier reviews. He told me that my plain single vision prescription lenses were processed on my insurance. I remembered that my policy covers most things fully. Great, so I thought. Then the bill came out to $ 300!!! Wha!!! I was so surprised that I left the glasses there. Checked my insurance again at home, and saw that everything is indeed fully covered. I called back to cancel my «deal», which he did adhere. The next day it turned out that he processed everything out-of-network. When I wanted to walk away he still tried to offer me to make my lenses for $ 150 with unwanted coating, and other sell-ups. Not for me, sir! As a farewell note the guy added that other places can’t make the lenses a good as they would… Good bye! This place is a rip-off! Take your money and business anywhere else.

Grand Central Optical is 5 stars in my book! I bought 2 pairs of frames from them nearly 2 years ago, and brought back one pair last month since they had a bunch of scratches on them, which were bothering me. No questions asked(and again, nearly 2 years later) they replaced my lenses. I don’t find them any more expensive than other optical shops, although they carry mostly high-end designer frames. But the customer service is really top notch, and they will give you an honest opinion of which frames suit your face.(As in he could have easily sold me a $ 500 pair, but told me something nearly half the price fit me much better.) They have a super convenient location, and if you can get there after or before the rush-hour crush, you can get their undivided attention.

Dealing with Grand Central Optical is a very pleasurable experience. The location is not the only accessible aspect of the place. The service is extremely professional. Marina in particular is not only extremely knowledgeable about eyeglasses but has an uncanny ability to steer you toward what you both want and should have without your even realizing that she is doing so. In addition, she has extraordinary taste and an uncanny ability to judge people’s faces and personal style. She’s very patient and take the initiative to make sure that your glasses fit properly; this is post sale service at its best.

Not really a fan of this place. Go to LensCrafters unless you need to get those(overpriced) French LaFont frames. Pros: — Selection of really fruity designer frames — Wider selection of really frenchy-french, oui-oui-oui frames Cons: — the lenses are 200% the price of the same at LensCrafters(during their semi-annual sale); even w/out the semi-annual sale, it’s a markup — LensCrafters has 90-day guarantee(sorry GCO, but sometimes a capitalism is a biotch) — the lens on my left eye was significantly wider/fatter in the bottom left corner of the lens(my left eye is worse). i pointed this out to them(uhh… is it supposed to look like this?), but they said they couldn’t do anything about it and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I went to LensCrafters and they made my lenses the EXACTSAMEWIDTH with the prescription. what… does this place employ a bunch of elves from the stone age chiseling away at the lenses? maybe the elves are blind. you really can’t get the lopsided thickness of my glasses right? it’s not like LensCrafters has the advantage of a space-age electron laser or smthg. just shave that luv handle down. i can probably do it with a nail file. in fact, i just might when i get home. anyone with the same issue, contact me. i have a nail file. i’ll charge you a yling-yling at the bar instead of your yearly retirement contributions.

I went here a few years ago because it was convenient and because insurance covered the insanely high price of the glasses($ 1000). The UV covering is now coming off one of the lenses and their only recourse for me is to replace the lenses themselves. At $ 375. So the prices are ridiculously high and they will not do anything for their customers. I’m with Suz E. Fail.

Once you get past the bridge and tunnel variety pack of salespeople and appointment makers, there is a great doctor here. These three stars are all for Dr. Sohn, who is awesome. She is patient, calm and really good at what she does. I’ve come to her for everything from your simple DMV license renewal«I am not driving blind» form to an «omg I am, in fact, going blind» scare.(apparently, I had scratched up my corneas diving with sand in my goggles. ouch!) She remembers me, smiles and fixes what ails me. The rest of the staff are mostly rude, pushy used car salesman types, full of awkward moments. I have a rotund bald man in mind, in particular. And the girls will just stare at you with that particular brand of disdain that has no sensible origin and thus no cure. And like Suz E. mentioned, things are RIDICULOUSLY expensive here, so I have taken to getting my eyes examined by Dr. Sohn then buying online from sites where the cost is half, even without taking my insurance(which, I will admit, is paltry).
