I’ve been holding my review for this store. I do come here a lot, just because I walk around here all the time. I go to the coffee store on this street (Stumptown), I buy juices at the corner (Liquiteria) and I go to the lil salon here as well (not telling you that one lol).
Each… and… every… time… I come here, whether alone, with my lil girl or with my bf, the cashier/​clerk/​helper/​associate or whatever the f**k is her position here gives me an absolutely disgusting attitude. I’m talking about this older black woman who’s probably in her 50’s. I come here alot. I’m all about consignment and thrift stores. Whether to browse and/​or to shop. I, at least, get one thing before I leave the store. I get a lot of books here. There was one time my lil girl was looking at the used DVD’s. Told her she can watch a movie that night and she can pick anything she wants. She found one that she liked. She was checking if the DVD was inside, this woman said she can’t touch them. My poor girl got so scared she started crying. Of course I had to say something. If you can’t touch them then put them in a shelf. We are allowed to check a merchandise before buying! Unless of course you have someone who can help each and every customer who comes who will check & open the dvd case, check the dvd if it has scratches and verify that to us. But then again you’ don’t. The prices here are more expensive than other goodwill stores but I already knew that before I tried paying for it so I’m not complaining about that just be a lil friendlier when customers talk to you. Especially (MOST ESPECIALLY) that older black woman who’s got attitude ALL THE TIME. If you really hate your job then get some other job somewhere else. I’m sure someone else would want that job. I finally decided to tell her about her attitude one day and she said well we can always do better so you should adjust your attitude too. Lady, I had no attitude when I came in the store but it you are a b! tch to me, don’t expect to get hugs and kisses!

The store manager at this store is a sociopath. I used to work here and she knew I was losing my home. She tried to ask me to come in on my day off even though I told her I had appointments to try and find a home so I wouldn’t be homeless and she asked me to «cancel it». She overprices things intentionally due to her greed and disregard for anyone, but herself and those who have the money. She favors this car salesman who comes into the store (or used to) who also claims to be a diplomat, mostly because she probably wants to have an affair with him. She is also very weird about the downstairs bathroom, always in there, but for who knows what reason, then throws a fit if anyone else uses it (and yes customers… there are bathrooms at this location, but you are not allowed to use them because they are for employees only and Goodwill is run by hateful, sleazy scum). She constantly yells at employees like dogs and if they don’t arrive shortly (I mean impossibly short, time travel short) she belittles them. This woman does not know how to run a store and she wonders why the racks are so full and no one buys much, it is because of her ridiculous pricing and lack of common sense. This is also the fault of the higher ups above her whose ethics (or lack of) are questionable. It is also common for the manager to get angry at BLIND employees, for not tagging clothing correctly. BLIND EMPLOYEES.
As for the customers, some are nice and friendly, most are complete jerks who hide their insecurities by treating everyone who works at this store as if they were lowly scumbags who will never go anywhere in life. They just want to live their «New York lifestyle», which is basically just running away from themselves. Some customers with obvious trauma will come in everyday with their Sonic Youth bags (yes, if you read this, I mean you), and make it obvious that they are empty black holes. A lot of the donors will also just drop off trash and still ask for a receipt. They don’t really give a shit about «giving», at all. When you give to Goodwill, you are giving to a tax exempt, corporate monster who would piss on a dying homeless person. This place is a mess and should just shut down, and be replaced with something worth going to, unfortunately, all the clones and robots in Manhattan won’t allow this to happen. Just keep shopping.

I’ve donated several times to Goodwill but will never again to this location. Went to donate 3 large bags of clothes at the 8^th street location. Security to me to go to right door and drop bag off then a guy yelled at me as I entered the door. Then told to leave them against the wall. I asked for a print out confirming my donation and was told I needed to come at a different time BC they were moving donations onto the truck but plenty of ladies at cashier and walking around could help. 3 other people came in after me and we’re giving donation slips. Again was yelled at that they told me I had to come back another time for mine. Asked them for anyone’s signature for confirmation I donated and could come back for the official form without issues. Yelled at again that the couldn’t do that for me. Meanwhile they took two other people’s donations looked them up in the computer and gave them a donation form. Turns out it was the manager was the one telling. There are better and more appreciative places to donate to. Never again.

I planned to buy a raincoat marked $ 12.99 on the standard Goodwill label. When I got to the register, the clerk said that it was the wrong price. I pointed out to her that it is illegal to mark an item at one price, then arbitrarily try to sell it at a higher price. She called a manager, who also would not sell me the raincoat for the price marked, insisting that it would cost more than marked. I will shortly report this to Consumer Affairs and Goodwill central offices. Beware of bait and switch at this Goodwill.

Not all thrift stores are created equal, and this is more equal than others. This store had designer brands like Brunello Cucinelli mixed in with clothes from Old Navy. It’s exactly the best of what a thrift store should be. The only reason it’s not five stars is because the prices are higher here than Goodwills in other places. That’s New York City for you, but still a great store.

Horrible experience. Disgusted by the cashier and security guard who treat their customers like absolute trash. I am horrified by the way they make you feel like you are not respected and are an inconvenience. I will be writing a review to higher ups with details of my experience. TERRIBLE!

The cashiers and managers working there acts like either you owe them money or something. Snobbish, not willing to help, not friendly and probably only mark down the prices if you are their friends. When I was there, there was 3 items from Target, 2 of them were marked down for half the price or more, the other item, which was the item that I wanted, when brought to the counter, said the price will stay the same as if you bought from Target. WTF? Why is the other 2 items marked down drastically (all 3 items were new) and the one that I wanted was not marked down? You know, sometimes it’s your attitude towards your customers that makes the whole experience a nightmare instead of the item or prices. Terrible! Will never come back again!

Last time I ever visit that store. The two security guards were making vulgar sexual comments at the female customers, and the female register attended snapped at me when I told her I had a goodwill rewards cards. While this store has some great items, they have lost a very loyal customer. Absolutely disgusting customer service, the employees there should really be ashamed.

Great selection for a Goodwill store… might be my favorite in NYC.
Lots of brand names/​trendy pieces and it was organized and clean… ish (It IS a thrift store, after all.) Bought a Banana Republic coat and skirt, J Crew shirt & BCBG skirt for $ 45. Would’ve cost me much more retail but you have to be willing to spend a chunk of time searching and trying on stuff.
4 stars because some of the items are definitely overpriced– not paying 10 bucks for used F21 jeans that probably cost the same new!

Very comfortable and pleasent to shop in.
It was air conditioned; pleasent on a hot spring day.
It has a pretty great selection of everything and is bigger then most goodwill stores.
They had 2 dressing rooms; they were both big and clean.
I wound up buying a pair of Club Monaco black shorts for $ 9.99. Would definately come here again.

Broke Sons heart — he fell in love with shoes in the window that they will not sell until a later date. Very frustrating.

Been to goodwills all across the country and this one is among the best as far as the odds of finding higher quality clothes. It seemed like every third item was great, where you’d have to go through 20 at a store in a different state. That being said, the prices here are about twice as expensive as anywhere else, but that’s expected in NYC. They also have window sales occasionally where you can line up and get a number and buy no more than 2 items from the window. The really good stuff goes quick and you have to line up hours before it opens. Also beware of knock-​offs in the window sales as there were quite a few.
As far as returns go, one thing to keep in mind is that you can only return items bought here to this location, not to any other goodwill. That was a little inconvenient for me as well as someone else I heard.

I’ve had a range of experiences here.
WATCH OUT FOR BLOODY CROTCH! No I’m not British.
I bought a pair of pants. I always check for obvious marks.
When I went to try them on, the entire crotch area was filled with blood.
The manager with an attitude said to me as I carefully worded to her what had happened, WHY DIDN’T YOU CHECK THE CROTCH FOR BLOOD?
In the normal course of business isn’t that YOUR job?
I’m pretty well versed in shopping in places like this. Her argument was «what do you expect»
There is some responsibility for cleanliness.
What’s interesting is that I wasn’t asking for anything out of the ordinary — I came back the next day and am entitled with no reason to exchange.
But…her defensive insecure (typical) blaming attitude didn’t change anything except I no longer shop here. I meant to report her, she has purple hair and an attitude. She was the manager.
Lol. Lol.
For the record, the workers here (not her) are nice.
And to back up my fellow Unilocalers below… the security guard is fickle and blocked me from coming in once, unless I checked the same exact bag I never checked the last 5x I stopped in while waiting for the bus… they definitely lost business because I knew and saw from where I was standing what I wanted to buy. Plus I was a regular… not bec I found so much stuff… but to use the time between classes. Rarely bought.
As far as the clothes, this is the only place (even before nasty crotch) that I have had to double wash things for questionability. Yes, it is overpriced. Most things should be at least half off what is listed — I know the circuit pretty well.
Not worth it. Not recommended.

I’m not sure what it is about his goodwill, but the clothes always seems to be a little nicer than other goodwills. The staff is great here, and the prices are set. They get new stuff pretty often, so it’s worth checking out often. The dressing room has a tendency to become a hot mess though, no one ever seems to obey the «4 items at a time» rule.
PS If you want to make a return, the clothes HAS to have the original goodwill price tag still on it.

I was exhausted after marching at Pride today, so when i saw this location i went in, primarily because i needed some AC. I didn’t get to check out the clothing sections, but when i walked over the housewares section, i almost passed out from excitement, two almost hundred years old covered vegetable serving bowl from Booth China were just sitting there, and they were $ 3.99 each! I have been looking for the perfect tureen/​casserole/​lidded serving dishes for a long time and i found 2 the same day, antique no less!!! Also got two matching set of cup/​saucer, a creamer, and two fruit bowl, all from the same brand/​pattern!
Antique!!! Well, almost, but all those only set me back a mere $ 18 bucks so who am i to complain? Yeeeeeeeee!!!

Found a nice pair of slacks here recently for $ 10 that was barely used! I wouldn’t say it’s a steal but it is decently priced. Place was as organized as ever and clean. Good shoe and clothing selection but of course this changes constantly, it is a thrift store after all.

I’ve found several items I liked here, including name brands (James Perse and Banana Republic), for cheap prices. Staff has always been nice to me. Enough to bring me back on a regular basis to check for new stuff.

Expensive for a goodwill. Other goodwills are cheaper in other neighborhoods.
2 stars for the vinyl records at $ 2 and this is the most organized goodwill I’ve been to,

Five stars for their employees, three stars for their pricing on merchandise.
A friend and I stopped in here after drinks and before hot dogs, and I was clearly in the mood to make some sort of thrifty purchase. They were closing in half an hour, and had just closed the dressing room, but never made me feel rushed or unwelcome. And I think we all know the last hour of retail probably b-​l-​o-​w-​s for the staff with everyone trying to get their last minute try on’s. My friend and I interacted a lot with a male staff member there, joking about a book on the shelf and then asked him for his thoughts on a coat I was trying on, and he was just super helpful and had a great sense of humor. The woman at the cash register was also pretty friendly.
I ended up purchasing a Tommy Hilfiger fall coat for just shy of $ 30, and yes, it’s a good deal, but I felt like the price point was about $ 5-​$ 10 too high. They have a lot of name brand stuff — Michael Kors coat in the front was maybe $ 45? — in pretty good condition. Their homewares and women’s dresses were a little weak, but a lot of reasonable women’s shoes. Reasonable meaning they could have been worn for real and not just for costume parties. A lot of books, pretty organized, but didn’t have time to look through them — noticed a travel section and cookbook section though!
Look for a good deal, and if you can’t find one, know that those few overpriced dollars are going towards something positive.

This store opened not too long ago, and I really like the interior of this store. It’s neatly organized, and there is a sizable men’s and children’s corner off to the side. In the back are your housewares section. In the front there are just rows and rows of women’s clothing, like pants, suits, dresses, etc.
As you may know, I am a huge thrift store junkie in NYC, and I love Goodwill. So why the low rating here? Well, there was a surplus of stuff from Ann Taylor LOFT, but guess what? 99% of the items here had SAMPLE in big ugly permanent marker on the back. And yet they are still selling for full Goodwill prices. WHY? Nobody in their right mind is going to wear clothing with such an OBVIOUS marking on it. Goodwill shouldn’t be selling these in the first place.
I did notice that Goodwill is starting to separate its «high end» stuff more — I did see a lot of what appears to be Coach bags behind the counter.
On the plus side, I did find a new with tags Milly skirt for only $ 19.99!
But other than that, selection is so-​so. There seems to be a lot of excess Target stuff (William Rast for Target jeans, Merona, etc.) here as well. It might be because this store is so new, so I will give it some time for more good stuff to come in through here!
