I’ve been shopping at this goodwill location since I was a little girl, when my grandmother used to take me thrifting. When thrifting was the only choice when it came to shopping, long before it was the cool trendy thing to do. Ever since then I have always been able to go in and find the absolute best items. Whether, it be a wool coat(100% lambs wool) or vintage vinyl albums or just great books to read at amazing prices. You can’t beat the prices, but you will have to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty digging through racks or crates or shelves of items, depending on what you’re looking for. This location is always organized and the staff isn’t that bad, they always seem helpful every time I’ve gone. They even have a points system card. Goodwill done stepped up! Upstairs is all clothing and downstairs is my favorite, books home goods, furniture, etc.

You can get some interesting finds here in terms of housewares, everything from cabinets, desks, tables, chairs, and even the occasional couch. This store is spread out on to two floors, and the bulk of the home items are in the basement. Some items are priced a bit high, more or less at what you could buy them brand new online, but there are still some bargains to be found.

So, I love to hit up all the thrift stores in NYC. This Goodwill used to be one of my favorites. This location is known to have never-been-warn overstock Target, Loft, Old Navy, and Ann Taylor. This location always has these designer brands. I have single handily re-stocked my entire wardrobe with brand new Loft clothes. Score! However, this store is big and the racks are stacked. You really have to search. And as soon as you walk in, a security guard follows you, scoping you out to see if you have a shopping cart(common in NYC) or reusable shopping bags(go green!) upon which he’ll make you check them. I hate walking in to any establishment, let alone a Goodwill(?!), and feel like I’m being watched while harmlessly browsing the isles. The staff isn’t the best, but what can you really expect from some Goodwill employees? Not all play nice. The prices are reasonable, but every now and then I get sticker shock! I still leave with two bags worth of stuff for less than $ 100. So it’s still a bargain. Nonetheless, give this Goodwill a try. I love going there at least once a month to see what Loft and Target has unloaded on them, and of course, to search the brand name pieces NYC’ers have donated.

This is a sub-par goodwill for clothing. Most of the women’s clothing is in bad condition — pilled, stained, etc. There are an abundance of those cami-tank tops, all in bad condition as well. A lot of the stuff here is vintage rather than brands, but not attractive vintage. Half the store is taken up by a huge quantity of junk(under the guise of toys, household items, electronics, etc.) It’s true that the prices are low and that there are dressing rooms, but there’s nothing here.

I have not shopped here, but I have donated a lot of items. I’m surprised about how rude they are about donating. I dropped off stereo equipment, designer clothes and kitchen equipment yesterday and got a a very dismissive attitude when I asked for a receipt. We won’t be donating any more items to this location.

If you dig around, you can find some interesting stuff in the book section. Unless you’re lucky, I don’t think you’ll find any good clothing or household items in the store.

I don’t know who runs this place, but they are borderline criminals. Overly priced junk and way too many articles. The staff takes one glance at you and make up prices. They need to reduce the cost of the items, since it is the Goodwill org… They are taking advantage of the economy and overcharging people… especially old folks in Harlem.

Nothing to see here people. Lots of Target merchandise, old clothing(not the good kind.) and dresses from the 80’s(this isn’t bad if you happen to be a bigger size, you can get it tailored but I am way too small for the women’s clothing here) I came in looking for some old Levi’s to construct into some cutoffs but the selection was HUGE and I didn’t have time to browse the way I would have liked to. :-(However, I did snag a cute little cognac colored leather backpack. If you are looking for household items and appliances. come here. But you definitely need time to browse if you want to thrift it up for some clothing.

This review is only based on furniture cause thats what I was looking for. so basically if your redecorating your bar slash game room thats in the basement then this is perfect. I know its a goodwill and my expectations weren’t at all high but… well…I was disappointed. I did see a couple of pieces but there were no price tags anywhere, and all the associates were upstairs. I did manage to get a couple of lamp shades for super cheap. I can’t say that I won’t return but I’ll have to be really bored

A child of the Great Depression, my mom was the queen of thrift store shopping. She managed to always leave with armfuls of designer wear in her recycled bags. I, on the other hand, never acquired her patience for sifting through dusty, musty clothes and grimy housewares. Fast forward to Harlem circa 2000, I discover the Goodwill on 5th Avenue. No more dusty, musty clothes to pick through. As was already mentioned in earlier reviews, this store is large, well lit, clean, orderly and actually pleasant to visit. I’ve gotten brand new/never been worn clothes as well as a rug for my apartment that was in pretty good condition. Word is that they are now opening an even bigger location in East Harlem. A 22,000 sf superstore on July 24 in East Harlem(2231 Third Ave between 121st and 122nd Sts, 212−410−0973. Hopefully the new store will keep their digs as clean and organized as the 5th Avenue location.

Holy crap, I know that I’m going to become the victim of a sock party when I go to sleep tonight just for letting you guys in on this.(Free drink for whoever knows where that«sock party» reference is from) But I’ve reached a little creative wall and feel that I’ve let my fans down by not reviewing lately. So here goes. DISCLAIMER: This review is exclusively for those of you who live or have recently moved to Harlem. This is for you because you live here! I’m sorry folks but I can’t have you commuting up here and taking up all the good sh#t! Okay. This is by far one the best thrift shops in the city. One of the biggest highlights is that for some reason this place receives a disproportionate amount of Target merchandise(plates, furniture, etc). This place always has a great supply of accent pieces for the house too. I mean I’ve gotten external harddrives, desks, vacuums, a water cooler, and a couple times have even replaced my wardrobe. True story! I work down the block and had a bad food accident on my clothes. I had an important meeting to go and got a replacement pair of pants and dress shirt. Hey… it got me out a tough jam. The place is hit or miss most times. I have to be honest. The only thing that helps me is that I get my lunch around there everyday and I always peek in to see if anything strikes my fancy. But when I hit, I hit big!
