Global Citizen Festival

All I’m going to say is get here at the crack of dawn because the line is off the wall and New Yorkers are serious about their lines. My friend won tickets to the Global Citizen Festival in 2014 and the lineup was great. The ones I was excited for were Tiesto and Carrie Underwood. However, this festival isn’t just about the music. Several politicians, ambassadors, and activists make stage appearances to discuss the issues at hand. So it goes back and forth between concerts and speeches. Sandwiches are available to purchase; I remember they didn’t allow us to take in our smoothies, so be careful with open drinks. I just wish it was easier to win tickets!

I have been a Global Citizen since 2012 & this non-​profit organization has opened my eyes to important issues that some of us may overlook. Global Citizen was established in 2012 by the Global Poverty Project. The project’s goal is to end extreme poverty by 2030. Global Citizen brings awareness on world issues like citizenship, education, food & hunger, health, & water & sanitation.
In order to promote the cause, there is an annual free ticketed event on the Great Lawn in Central Park where hundreds of thousands of global citizens get together. Ban Ki-​Moon (UN Secretary-​General), Huge Jackman (Actor/​Activist), & Olivia Wilde (Actress/​Activist) are a few individuals who support the Global Citizen Project.

Food is permitted but they have to be in clear containers & drinks have to be closed. No alcohol, lawn chairs, or blankets will be allowed to the event. If you don’t want to bring your own food, you can purchase sandwiches, wraps, chips, & water when you arrive. T-​shirts, tanks, hats, & other merchandise are sold during the festival.
