When you’re a fan of the movie, its hard to love this play. But it was still excellent. Fine acting by the cast. We want to see Pacino in his Roma role. But he is 74 and its not new ground. Pacinon plays the Levine character more shmuckish and less desperate than Lemon does in the film. Pacino is still solid and it was an honor to watch him act in person. While Cannavale was very good as Roma, there are scenes where i felt he tries to hard. Pacino is able to exude confidence as Roma in the film effortlessly. But then again, he is Al Pacino. For a lot of the audience, theyre wanting the same magic as they experienced in watching the film. Thats not happening. A., this is live, no takes B. The film had Pacino, Lemmon, Spacey, Harris, Arkin, Baldwin… top of the line actors in their prime. This was still a wonderful NYC experience.

Having a star studded cast certainly saved the show. The actors did a fine job. But I felt the plot was lacking and disjointed. I could have really cared less what happened to the characters. Fortunately we bought the tickets minutes before the show in Times Square from a scalper near the TKTS booth for half face value.

Great play. Al Pacino was excellent, but I must say Bobby Cannavale stole the show. Overall, well worth the money. Please do not bring children or anyone with virgin ears… if you have seen the movie you will know what I am talking about.
