The authenticity of seeing a live jazz band in Harlem takes you back in time. The band was great but it’s very loud in this sub level space. I would not come expecting to converse with friends because you won’t be able to hear each other unless you are shoulder to shoulder. I had a moment of excitement with a girlfriend and sounded off a slight shriek. The host came over and asked me to keep my voice down. Ummm excuse me! Nobody puts baby in the corner! I was very annoyed and he blew my buzz from my drink(Hello Chef) that was sooo good. I understand if we were continuously loud and was disturbing the club. At the end of the night the host sent us a round of champagne and a shout out on the mic. He clearly knew his actions were uncalled for but hey what a way to make up for it with free liquor. The food was amazing and I the DJ afterwards was rocking, playing a good mix of music. I highly recommend reservations and they were kind enough to seat our partial party of six. Good for groups but better for couples. Perfect for dinner and dancing afterwards in a diverse environment. Welcome to the new Harlem.

Excellent atmosphere at this beautiful place in the middle of Harlem. It has an old fashioned vibe that feels like you are in another Era. I went to see some friends play with the Gregorio Uribe Big Band which by the way you should check out whenever they are in town. An amazing concert with a lot of good energy and people dancing all night long. I can’t say anything about the food because I didn’t eat there but I thought the service was kind of slow at the bar where I had a couple of drinks. The décor is astonishing and the area has plenty of room to move your body at least close to the bar. I would go see any show there because the sound and vibe is great. The staff is also super nice. Thumbs up for Ginny’s!

Recently visited for my dear friend and cousin’s birthday as she has always wanted to come here. I made a reservation ahead of time as it was a Saturday, and they had a live jazz band scheduled to play. We were made to pay a cover when we arrived, which we hadn’t planned on. IMO, if you’re buying food and drink, you shouldn’t have to pay a cover also, but ok, we rolled with it. We found the food menu kind of limiting. We had a hard time finding things to order. We settled on wings, cornbread, and macaroni and cheese to snack on. The wings were undercooked, so we sent them back to be fried harder. When the wings were brought back to the table they were unrecognizable. The cornbread never arrived, so we cancelled it. And the mac and cheese left a lot to be desired. The celebrity chef should be ashamed of the food items being brought out of his kitchen. The only thing that was ok was the sangria. We spoke to a manager on the way out who refunded our cover charge. That was the least he could do for a disastrous evening. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I highly doubt I will ever be back.

Just disgusting. All food was cold when we received it. The salad tasted like literal dirt and I had food poisoning all night.

**Dinner and Show Review** Came here for Valentines Day, and had the MOSTPERFECT experience. Originally wanted to make a reservation at Red Rooster, but it was booked. This was a blessing, because Ginny’s was without a doubt a more romantic setting for the occasion. The entire process from making the reservation to dancing the night away was seamless and hassle free. Admittedly, I’m nervous about going to popular restaurants on special nights, but Ginny’s proved me oh-so wrong! — You’ll always get a live person on the phone to make/confirm reservations, even if there’s a slight hold. — Coat check — free(you can also store your leftovers here! #Yassss!) — Loved that we weren’t limited to the pre-fix menu only. This was a major selling point for us, since most restaurants only offered pre-fix and we were not about that life. #WeLikeOptions — Even with a full house, service was on point. — Entertainment from Chris Turner was so sensual, so perfect! — The food: worth every penny. Even though the menu doesn’t have many vegetarian options, I still ate like a queen. Just be sure to read the menu carefully if you’re a strict vegetarian. — I got my fill on: Cornbread(wasn’t a fan of the tomato jam, but otherwise YES) Mac and greens(not at all your traditional southern mac and cheese but still divine so YES) Mashed potatoes(stole some from the carnivore’s entrée and holy YES!) Spiced Butternut Squash Soup(YESYESYES) Beet and Apple salad(least favorite dish) — The carnivore loved all of my eats plus the Deviled eggs and Helga’s meatballs. We didn’t even have room for dessert, but I had my eye on the Rooster Donut with red velvet chocolate filling. Must get that in my life soon-ish! After dinner, the tables were cleared for the nightlife portion — which as you can see from my previous review is the truth! I just can’t stop raving about the incredible night we had here. Many thanks to all involved! — — — — — — — — – Lemme ‘splain some stuff here: 1. Ginny’s in NOT the red-headed step child of Red Rooster. It’s the same thing! Just that Red Rooster = restaurant; Ginny’s = lounge. 2. Décor: Red Rooster = French bistro; Ginny’s = Moroccan-esque. 3. Food: Red Rooster = full menu(obvi); Ginny’s = almost full menu(we ordered from the All Day menu) 4. Entertainment: Red Rooster = live band included with dining experience; Ginny’s = live band at a cover.(we paid $ 15pp) 5. Parking: Available at a lot on 160 West 124th Street. Red Rooster/Ginny’s customers get a special rate of $ 10 for cars, or $ 13 for Suv’s with a stamped validation.

Had a great time at Ginny’s. My wife and I celebrated Valentine’s Day here and it was perfect. The ambiance was smooth, romantic and the food was excellent. I definitely recommend it as a place to enjoy some good jazz and entertainment as well as great food!

We finally tried out Ginny’s Supper Club and had a great time. The food was wonderful(entrees and desserts) as were the cocktails. I had hearth roasted salmon while hubby had fried yardbird chicken served on a waffle. The sides were collard greens and mac and cheese. We had a few specialty cocktails as well long Island iced tea and vodka tonic. We were attending an event so can’t comment on the prices.

This place is a fall-back for my friends and I when we’re looking for a night out. Cover is $ 10(although it was $ 15 the night before MLK day) and the drinks are normal NYC prices($ 13 for a jack and coke). The music is great for dancing and the crowd is eclectic which is awesome for both meeting people and people watching. I’ve only come here after 11pm and have never eaten here so I can’t comment on the food, but as far as drinks go I was pretty tipsy after 3 Jack and Cokes so they are worth the price. Definitely will continue to frequent this place with my friends!

I would give my first born for the recipe to the red chili sauce that came with the catfish. I licked the plate and didn’t even annoy the awesome wait staff. And that was my boyfriends dish. I got the meatballs and mashed potatoes. Insanely good. Also kicked the pots clean. For appetizer, the deviled eggs were super delicious and the salmon gravlax, also divine. The cocktails were inventive and not obnoxious – «sugar in my bowl» was a total surprise hit. AND the live music was phenomenal! Loved Corey Harris, could not clap hard enough. I will not let the devil ride, dear Mr. Harris.

There are two types of people in this world: those who brunch, and those who brunch in style. I fell into the latter bucket this weekend when I attended Lea DeLaria’s Jazz Brunch at Ginny’s Supper Club, a sister venue to Marcus Samuelsson’s famed restaurant, Red Rooster, in Harlem. Best known for her role as «Big Boo Black» on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, DeLaria doubles as an accomplished jazz musician who recently released her 5th studio album, House of David. The album, inspired by English singer and songwriter David Bowie, features 12 of Bowie’s covers with jazz influence. «He’s the only man I’d blow,» DeLaria said to a packed audience at Ginny’s Supper Club before performing a track from her innovative new album. Laughter aside, the audience enjoyed DeLaria’s bold reexamination of Bowie’s songs, such as «Golden Years,» «Modern Love,» and«Life On Mars» — all of which were reinterpreted with the language of jazz. Additionally, DeLaria brought holiday festivity to the venue with her jazz rendition of «Santa Claus is Coming to Town.» The highlight of the event — without a doubt — was DeLaria’s outstanding vocal performance. The«brunch» portion of the Jazz Brunch was so-so. The brunch buffet was a spread of traditional, soulful Southern favorites and comfort food from Red Rooster. Highlights included Mac & Greens(rigatoni pasta with New York cheddar, parmesan, and collard greens with crispy breadcrumbs on top), Fried Yardbird(fried chicken battered with flour, buttermilk, and coconut milk), creamy grits, roasted root vegetables, and an assortment of dessert.

Great dancing and night out, but maybe I’m cheap. 4 bourbons 66 dollars, I went 12 for tip for a total of 78, because I was not understanding how Makers was so expensive. I asked for a menu but there wasn’t one available, my bad, maybe next time I should say how much for a drink.

My favorite spot to go out in Harlem. Get there early, but the cover isn’t expensive. I think $ 10. The alcohol isn’t expensive. ~$ 7 for beer. The music and people are fabulous. The DJ is honestly one of my favorite ones in the city, playing hip hop, Stevie Wonder, etc. Everyone dances without pretense. So much fun.

Was here last last night with some friends and the food here is very expensive and subpar. The service is worse. One of my friends ordered chicken and waffles. Don’t expect actual chicken and waffles folks. She got a quarter of a waffle and a chicken breast. The Mac and Cheese and Greens. Who thought this was a good idea? It’s fine if separate, but mixed together? No! And using ziti pasta instead of elbow? This isn’t what I know to be mac n cheese. I get it though, offer something fancy looking. Yeah I would have just preferred good. The drinks. We ordered several glasses of wine that arrived only half full. For $ 10 a glass, let’s fill that up! Although, Stacy, our waitress, really should have offered the bottle. This was a Friday evening after all. When our meal was finished, our waitress never came back to offer dessert or even coffee. We don’t even know if they had a dessert menu. Once I paid the $ 300 bill for 5 people mind you, our little waitress Stacy kinda disappeared. Didn’t even come back to get her undeserved tip. Yeah I know it was busy, but I’ve been to many places a LOT bigger and busier, and didn’t receive such mediocre service. Basically, this place lives up to none of the hype. Take your money elsewhere.

Ginny’s Supper Club has a new fan, and nelle c. is her name! I had merely been hoping for a relaxed dinner at Red Rooster with an old friend, but ended up with a delightful and memorable evening. My friend showed up quite late, so I initially milled around the front of Red Rooster taking in the lively ambiance. First of all: any restaurant that plays Keith Sweat, Color Me Bad, Zhané, Soul 4 Real, and Soul 2 Soul all in the first 30 minutes is doing it right!!! So there I was, jammin’ and people watching and getting hungry. When my friend finally showed up, the hostess told us that the only seating would be available downstairs at Ginny’s Supper Club, but that they’d waive the $ 10 pp fee for the live show. :Well, don’t threaten us with a good time!: It was wonderful! All of the food was on point — I had the salmon with bok choy and my friend had the fried yardbird. But the highlight of the evening was the Johnny O’Neal trio. Why oh why has live jazz faded to the fringes of our daily musical consumption? Mr. Johnny O’Neal was entertaining, personable, relatable, and had nothing but talent falling from his fingertips on them piano keys. The cellist was also excellent, as was the drummer who provided all kinds of enthusiastic percussion along with eye candy.(I’m just sayin’!) The desserts were also great: the sweet potato doughnuts and the pineapple upside down cake are such treats. Of course, being a Marcus Samuelsson fan, I had a few of the«Yes, Chef» cocktails and found their mixology to be the perfect complement to the lovely evening. So, if you’re looking for a different kind of night out that is memorable with exquisite food, delicious drinks and desserts, and filled with tunes that effectively transport you to an exciting bygone era — I believe Ginny’s will do all that for you cuz it did it for me!

I liked the relaxed vibe and the people that work down here remain remarkably composed and agreeable despite the tight and pushy crowds. We had tix to see Lakecia Benjamin and the show itself was great. We had dinner upstairs at the Red Rooster so only came to see the show. That said, if you are coming to see a show, just make a dinner reservation. You have obstructed views from everywhere else BUT the dinner tables – and also the other areas can get cramped. I didn’t know that in advance. Got a VERY generous tequila pour from the bartender – in a FROSTED glass(excellent touch). Would love to come back, but definitely need to reserve a table for maximum enjoyment.

I call this place«old faithful» because it is a guaranteed fun night out. We all know that it is a headache to get guys in the club in nyc. This is my go to spot when I’m in town and want to go out with a group of people. No real hassle at the door for the guys in the group. Music is always on point and I always meet someone interesting. I can always count on this spot to make my night.

My wife and I are big fans of chef and owner Marcus Samuelson from watching him on the Food Network. In researching places to spend New Years Eve this year, we stumbled across Red Rooster & Ginny’s Supper Club. Both were serving a creative 5 course prix fixe meal, but Ginny’s included a Jazz show and Champagne toast for $ 95 /person. We figured this was an excellent deal for dining and entertainment in Manhattan on New Years Eve. We started off with a round of drinks upstairs in Red Rooster. Loved the brownstoner — a delicious bourbon cocktail. The ambience was fun, upscale, and very eclectic. Two minutes later my wife turned to me wide-eyed and said, «That’s Marcus Samuelson». Sure enough the celebrity chef spent the entire evening in the restaurant and downstairs at Ginny’s for the Jazz show. He personally introduced himself to us at our table and we had a nice conversation for several minutes. He even obliged our picture requests. What a class act! The dinner was amazing, honestly a top 5 meal of my life. My wife and I split up the menu options so we could try a bit of everything. The dishes of exceptional note were the fried oyster, beef tartare, halibut, steak & oxtail, and donuts with glögg-soaked cherries. I had an extremely interesting apple sorbet and fennel dessert. Honestly, I would try just about any combination the chef threw at us — he clearly is a master of unlikely, yet familiar flavor combinations. Soon after our fourth course, Christian Scott started up with his Jazz ensemble. The band was incredibly talented and entertaining. The entire setting felt like something out of a 1920’s underground jazz club. Overall, the experience was wonderful all around and well worth the price. I would highly recommend a dinner & show combination at Ginny’s to anyone seeking a one-stop shop date night.

I was at the Schomburg for First Friday’s and hunger started to creep in. We walked down to 125th. First the Cove was crazy, as was the Social Corner so we left and made a Bee Line for Red Rooster. The wait was about 45 mins and 4 hey didn’t have space to seat our party of 8 but the host suggested downstairs. This was my first time so I assumed downstairs wss just an extension. …much to my surprise it wasnt. Ginny’s has a totally different vibe from Red Rooster. You are not able to have access to entire menu but it has a full bar. We sat at the table and ordered drinks and appetizers. Two of us had the shrimp and Papaya Salad and two others had chicken and waffles. The food wasn’t over the top amazing but it wasn’t the worse we’ve had. I would def go back for drinks but skip the food. Ladies there were plenty of flirting cuties for those single and ready to mingke.
