Pizza that is beautifully delicious! This upscale pizza shop has everything you can ever want. It has delicious pizza combinations with high end ingredients that just make your mouth water. For the interior it is very trendy with intimate lighting that is perfect for a date and a bar if you just wanna grab a pizza and hang out. When I got here it was packed every table was taken except 1 which just big enough for my group of three. We were greeted by a very friendly wait staff and ordered margaritas along with some appetizers and a pizza. To start we got the Fried Lamb Meatballs, french fries, and Brussels sprouts. All of them were really good but the brussels sprouts were my favorite they were cooked to perfection and with the bacon mixed in made it so tasty. The Pizza we got was the 1986 which had on it spicy sopressata, fennel agrodolce, pickled peppers, arugula. I would never think of this type of combination on a pizza but I am happy I got it. When the pizza came to the table it looked beautifully delicious. I of course took the first slice and start eating it and with every bite it was a flavor explosion which was amazing. The mixture of the pickled peppers which were spicy with the sopressata was perfect. In short: — My favorite pizza place for dinner in the east village — Amazing Food and Drinks — Friendly Staff — Great for a date

I wondered in here trying to find a place to have a drink. I had actually gone into a different bar nearby but it was way too crowded. We walked into GG’s for a drink. They sat us down at a table. Even though we had just eaten dinner, the smell of the pizza at GG’s was simply irresistable. So we had our second dinner– grandma pizza. I was so stuffed but I managed to stuff down a delicious slice of pizza, and it was totally worth it. Cocktails are good too, they were about $ 12. Next time I come back here, I will not eat dinner beforehand, I will actually come here for dinner.

GG’s really surprised me, and not in a good way. I am not a local, however I come to Manhattan to visit friends at least twice a year and when I come to Manhattan I expect good pizza. I was excited to try GG’s because of this. What I got was… well… nothing special. The service was great and the pizza was not bad, however I could have gotten the same pizza ANYWHERE else in the country. The pasta was the same, it was not bad but it did not knock me off my feet. I also thought the prices were a bit high for what you got. Service was good and the waitress was friendly. My drink never ran out. I was torn between a 2 and 3 star review. The only reason I am not going to do 2 stars was because the staff were very nice and seemed to be interacting with everyone. The food, in my opinion, is only worth 2 stars though.

Such an adorable place! The ambiance is very quaint. The food was delicious, and it was highlighted by the staff, who was friendly and went above and beyond. I look forward to visiting again on future New York travels.

The food in this place is awesome, but I think I’d like to stick to coming here for lunch and dinner. I was here a few weeks ago for brunch, and was upset to find out that we couldn’t order off the regular menu(which is kind of strange considering a ton of the pizza ingredients are definitely available due to some of the brunch dishes– let us order any pizza during brunch, please!!) We ended up ordering the grandma pie for three of us, which was two thick slices per person and was definitely enough for lunch. However, we weren’t sure while ordering so we also got the pasta carbonara — also good, but definitely not worth the price for the size of the tiny dish. Regardless, the food was all great, but I’d stick to dinner to get more options as opposed to breakfast food. I also loved the décor in the place, so I’ll definitely be back again.

Read about this place in New York Magazine… it’s tucked away on a quiet street in Alphabet City. I had the personal pan pizza(the La Prima) which was delicious. The dough is fantastic! The cornbread is also delicious. Will definitely come back.

I took my mom and aunt out to lunch here. It’s a very trendy and hip place. The outside is inviting and the inside is very cozy. I had heard great things about their infamous grandma pie, so I was really excited to finally try it. Food — We ordered the grandma and ebony & ivory pies. The grandma pie was out of this world. It for sure lived up to the hype. Everything tasted so fresh. The crust was crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The tomato sauce was delicious and really flavorful. The pepperoni curled upwards, making little pepperoni cups that held pools of delicious grease. The basil tasted super fresh. I didn’t care for the ebony & ivory pie as much as I did the grandma pie. It has morcilla(blood sausage), ricotta, mozzarella, garlic, oregano, and chili flake. It tasted rather bland, perhaps because it lacked their delicious tomato sauce. We also ordered a side of their rosemary potatoes which were SO good. They were perfectly seasoned and not dry, as are most roasted potatoes. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at GG’s. I will most definitely be coming back for more of their grandma pie and to try their brunch pizza.

Pizza. Gourmet food. Gourmet pizza. It can’t get any better. My friends and I had a Saturday dinner reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived. We decided to go for 2 appetizers– the nduja and chicken liver spreads. The nduja had a spicy tang to it which was unexpected but added a great kick to the flavor. The chicken liver was exactly what I expected; the liver taste was extremely strong(so if you’re not ok with that, don’t order it). For pizzas we decided on the Capo the Great and the Amatriciana. They were both delicious but I preferred the Amatriciana. Definitely recommend this place! The ambience and service are both great :)

GG’s might be my new favorite casual spot in New York. Came with a friend on a Thursday evening around 8p and had no problem getting a seat. It’s definitely a small restaurant, so tables are close together but the noise is loud so you won’t feel on top of anyone. We ordered the lamb meatballs, squash salad and the eggplant Parm grandma style pizza. Lamb meatballs were ok, a little too small and consistency was a little off. The squash salad was refreshing, sizable with a nice tang with beets and goat cheese. The pizza was out of this world, no complaints — hearty eggplant, perfect amount of sauce and cheese — it was one of the better pizzas I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place not too expensive.

Very hip place in a central location in the east village. I was on the hunt for a new burger and had read some things on the burger here so I gave it a whirl. Keep in mind this place is known for its pizza, however the burger was great. Very fresh, nice soft patty and incredibly juicy. The meat almost melts in your mouth in a good way. Wasn’t mind blowing good but a very good burger. The French fries came out fresh and piping hot. Very crispy and delicious. Overall a very solid meal. I would absolutely come back to try the pizza or eve the brunch. Will be back!

Everything on the menu is delicious so you cannot go wrong here. I love the space, the food, the service, and the drinks(great cocktail menu and wine). It’s a hidden gem that I want all to myself but fine, i’ll let you in on this little secret pizza place. For someone that doesn’t normally go for a pepperoni slice, I am obsessed with the Grandma Pie here. Definitely get that. Bring a crew and try all the other pizzas while your at it.

Came here with a group of 8 last night, we had to do the party deal– which actually was great with plenty of food. The dandelion salad wasn’t amazing, but the pasta dish, pizzas and sides– mushroom and kale were EXCELLENT. With drinks and tip it ended up being $ 60 a person which I thought was pretty good considering all the food, bottles of wine we ordered. Really cute spot, service was excellent. Felt well taken care of.

On one hand, GG’s is super sceney: dim lighting and lots of candles, tin-roof(which magnifies sound to the nth degree – beware and maybe bring ear plugs) quaint backyard garden(not to eat in, but rather where they grow herbs) and a DJ on Saturday nights. I’ve seen plenty of GG’s money shots on instagram – typically the O.G. Grandma Style pizza, though some burger pics too – and I saw plenty more in creation on Friday night. All that being said, GG’s was surprisingly low-key and authentic. There was no wait at 8:30 for two people and the total bill for a liter of rose, a(huge) Grandma pie and a kale appetizer was something like $ 35. The waitress was incredibly patient with us as we caught up and took forever to order. And to top it off, the food was unique and overall tasty. The appetizer was kale served with greek yogurt and za’atar spices. Having had more than my share of kale salads in East Village restaurants, it was a new take. The Grandma pie was fine – the sauce was oddly a tad sweet and the crust a bit thick for me. I might get something else next time(like the burger) but we finished the pie between us so I can’t say I hated it. I also noticed that they take reservations for groups – this would be a great place for a birthday brunch or dinner!

Very good pizza, outstanding burger. Tried the Grandma pizza and it had tons of flavor between the fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and savory pepperoni(a bit charred, just the way I like it). The only flavor that I felt was missing a little was that of the sauce. There appeared to be plenty of sauce, but it didn’t quite have the deep rich tomato flavor you hope for in a pie like this. Overall, this left GG’s just a tad off the pace of places like Roberta’s or Emily in Brooklyn, or even my Manhattan fave Prince Street pizza. The burger on the other hand was among the very best I have had in NYC. I only had a few bites since we were sharing it three ways, but wow was it good. While not dry aged(and I am not convinced dry aged is always better), the patty was juicy, flavorful and had a nice crust from the searing. The caramelized onions on top were delicious as well, and the bun tied things together nicely. The wine selection was good, we each enjoyed a few different glasses and all were quite nice. Definitely will be back for the burger, and likely the pizza as well.

«The Pizza Project 2015» takes a stroll over the river to finally hit GG’s after so many raves and write-ups from New York magazine.(And they weren’t just whistling dixie — this place is the real deal.) Wildly delicious offerings(cocktails, appetizers) and some seriously amazing pizzas. Would I be justified to knock off a star for our Grandma slices’ crust were burned black over most of the slice? Yeah but there was so much flavor that I can’t hold a grudge — especially when you get there during Happy Hour and you leave full and it wasn’t so bad on your wallet as it could’ve been. Definitely excited for our next venture over to the East Village.(Next time I’ll bring the kids to tell them about their dad getting polluted at Tompkins Square Park back in the not-so-safe-era of NYC with the squatters and other maniacs.)

Just ate the best burger I have ever had. NOJOKENOJOKE. I usually get the 1986 pizza and its on point, but seriously GGs make a killer burger. I never review places unless something really stands out or something totally bothers me. The only other restaurant I review is jgelena on the west coast. Killer place too! GG’s your burger is ONPOINT

Dropped in and requested a Happy Hour grandma slice and was handed a receipt stating I owed $ 4.90, so balked and was told the $ 2 advertised outside was for dine-in only, so they got their generous $ 0.32 tip and a cloth napkin, silverware, and glassware to clean out of the deal to make it $ 2+tax instead(«so people don’t order 26 slices and walk outta here»). Really great slice, even if most of the crust was burnt rather than charred. *BTW the price for their SI-inspired pie skyrocketed at least $ 4 since opening, presumably due to the press.

Super cute spot. But pizza was just OK. It’s also extremely HOT in there. The fans were not working correctly, and the last pizza arrived once we were done eating the other two. The service was just OK and the pizza was just alright. They do have a cook cocktail menu. Don’t think I’ll be back.

There is no shortage of pizza in NYC, but I’m always happy to add another spot the list. GG’s makes fancy pies in Alphabet City – it’s an upscale place for cool kids. On a recent Thursday evening the dinner rush was winding down, and a friend and I made it in time for the after 10 pm Grandma slice special. We were prepared to take on a whole Grandma Pie, but the by slice option seemed like a better fit. I’m a big fan of Grandma slices and this one instantly shot to the top of my list – that crust, that sauce, that pepperoni. Crisped to perfection. Sprinkled with parm on top. You guy, it really is that good, and two slices each later we were both very happy ladies. Our waitress quickly became our new best friend and she passed along our complements to the bartender who was the iPhone dj – his playlist was incredible and I’m sure added to our eating joy. I’m a creature of habit so it might be hard for me to return to GG’s and get anything besides the Grandma, but maybe I’ll be adventurous and try something else. Sounds like their happy hour is also killer.

Hot on the heels of his huge summer success with Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream, Nicholas Morgenstern has another hit on his hands with GG’s, the replacement for his other popular spot, Goat Town. Like his buzzy ice cream, all the food here is delicious and it will have the food blogs and Instagram feeds going on about it no time: — Fried Lambneck Meatballs($ 9 for 4) These were an amazing way to start the meal. Topped with crispy, fried shallots and a really delicious piquillo pepper sour cream, these are a must. — Stuffed Agnolotti($ 13 for small size) This was a tasty pasta dish with some more lamb. The agnolotti were quite large, with just four pieces of it, plated nicely with a bunch of hunks of crispy lamb. This was quite good, but I would probably save room for more of the great pizza next time. — Pan Seared Burger($ 16) I’m not so sure how I feel about this burger. I was hoping to be blown away since all the rest of the food was so good, and there have been so many great new burgers this year, but some of the ingredients here just didn’t do it for me. Topped with white cheddar, melted onions and green slaw, it was somehow a bit bland, with the bitterness of the slaw too overpowering. The fries it came with were excellently crispy and the meat was high quality, but I don’t think this makes it to the list of must try burgers this year. — Grandma Style Square Pie($ 18) This is where it’s at here. Occupying the majority of the menu, the pizzas are what you should be coming here for. We went for this grandma style pie, which was awesome. Topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, oregano and some small, thick discs of pepperoni, it was an excellent take on a square pie. It’s very different than a typical pie, as the bread is very spongy and is more similar to focaccia, but it is so good. I definitely need to try one of the regular style pies here too though. — Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream Sandwich($ 8) You can’t leave here without some of his now famous ice cream, and this is the best way to try it, not only because it’s amazing, but also because you can’t get ice cream sandwiches at the shop. This one was made with double chocolate cookies and the salted chocolate ice cream, and it was a perfect specimen. Cut in half and presented nicely and neatly on a plate, that signature soft and salty ice cream went so well with the chewy, hard cookies. You must get this as the perfect way to end a very satisfying meal. It’s a great spot with a similar feel to his ice cream shop, but not quite as old timey. They were playing some great early 2000’s hip hop most of the time, so that was perfect, as a fan of OutKast and the like. This place will be packed in no time, and with good reason. I need to come back ASAP for brunch to try the breakfast pizzas.
