Love this store! The sweets section always gets me, so many delicious options. Very multicultural, European/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern foods.

This place puts other«international» food stores to shame. Great selection of all sorts of cold cuts, from the standard Bolognas and other Italian smoked sausages you might be familiar with to the hard to find Russian/Slavick Kalbasas and kosher smoked turkey from Israel, great assortment of international cheeses.name the cheese and they most likely have it, order what you want sliced fresh by the pound… want only a little bit… Let the counter person know and only pay for what u need… Find rare Central Asian delicacies, nuts and treats… KURT?, SHURAK?.. yup, you can find it here. Organic milk! Priced better than most other grocery stores. Russian, Central Asian drinks. Want pickled stuff? They have an array of home made style pickles, tomatoes(green and red) cabbage. etc… Great service to top it all off. They some times throw in a free something at the register if you spend $ 30 or more… Free chocolate bar, strawberries, cookies. just to be appreciated is what I appreciate! Keep it up guys!

So there are 2 gostronoms virtually next door to each other. The original smaller and the newer one several doors down. They have the typical russian-esque store layout, with focus on deli, meats and cheeses as well as freshly made bukharian specialties like manti. The breads alone are worth the visit and I always get more than I should since I never know when Ill be back in the neighborhood

where to begin about this place? ordered some cake and it was moldy and green so be careful about their products, had food poisioning and vomited the whole day due to this spoiled item, upon returning the item, the owner accused my fridge of being broken instead of being a man and owning up to the fault, i deff wont shop here anymore and am advising people to be careful when you purchase from this store because many times the products might be expired. also customer service isn’t that great.

The best place for fresh feta cheese! More than 6 kinds. I don’t have to taste the Bulgarian original for freshness — it’s there every time. And you are served with a smile, sometimes a joke — and it’s all in Russian! Love this place, especially before the holidays like New Year’s. Kakoi russkii né liubit prazdniki!

These guys are awesome. They were closed for a couple of months — came back looking more gorgeous shiny and 5 times the size. The produce is very different from the usual nyc groceries, the deli section is way better than any deli in a typical store. The prices are esily 30% below on a lot of organic items i usually buy(like eggs or raw honey), although the store is not organically oriented. Pretty great deal.

Gastronom is one of the newest Russian supermarkets to open up on 108th Street that is very close to the Q23 bus stop. It sounds and looks bigger than it really is. It is a medium sized supermarket chock full of goodies and staples that you normally find in these markets, and where locals quickly found this new market and were busy buying all their groceries. The two big windows are covered with food items so the only way to take a peek is to be brave and go in or look through the doors. They have a center counter square where you can get all types of sausages and the workers behind the counter will help you out. There are also dried nuts stored in plastic clear bins and right underneath, are bags of flour. Near it is an area for self-service chocolates and candies. This place used to be a Chinese/Japanese restaurant and also another small Russian supermarket knocked down to create a medium sized supermarket. There are prepared foods like samsas, pierogis, plov, veal tongue and many other choices. They have a counter for packaged salads, shelves for pickled vegetables. In the freezer section they have Russian dumplings in different fillings, puff pastry dough, containers of sour cherries and blintzes. There are open refrigerated shelves of various yogurts, and cheeses. A shelf filled with various packaged breads and flatbreads are along the side as you first come in. There are also packaged desserts and whole cakes in the open refrigerator sections. There is also a section of various smoked fish and fried fish. On the counter they had packaged milk crepes ready for you to fill, varniskys and other foods. A display of Chupa Chubs lollipops was behind the cashiers. I can see various cookies and candies and one of my favorites chocolate wafer bars from Poland, the Prince Polo bars on the shelf, but my interest was focused in the self-service chocolates. I recognized this baby on the cover of some of the chocolates. A girlfriend who went travelling had brought back a piece for me and I have kept the paper with the baby hoping to come across this chocolate again and it’s right here in Gastronom. I tested the bon-bon out and it tasted like it had cherry with the dark chocolate, delish . The cashiers are in a small area tucked to the side of the entrance/exit.
