I was there a few months ago to pick up some boxing gear. I called ahead to make inquiries and they were very helpful. As a mom and pop shop you could tell the passion they had for the sport and the amount they believed in the product they were selling.

I love supporting local business. Especially a store that has given back to their community many times over. High level quality leather gloves. Very informative and professional. Not cheap but you are getting a great deal for the price!

This year I have really gotten into learning to hit the heavy and the speed bag. When I decided it was time to purchase my own equipment, G & S was recommended to me by an ex boxer who I know from the Y in Prospect Park. G & S is an old time«mom and pop»(though I only saw pop) store with two things many stores today lack… people who really know their product and people who take the time to treat you as a person. In terms of equipment, they only sell top quality goods. So if price, not quality, is your priority, then this is not the place to go. But if you want top quality for a fair price, then it is! Yes, they don’t sell much more than boxing equipment and hats but in spite of its name, this is a boxing supply store… not a Walmart!

I only shop for my boxing gear at G&S sporting goods and have shopped there for over 20 years. The store carries some sneakers which is helpful along with tidbits of things that are always a necessity. What I love about this store is that it’s a small, quaint and a mom and pop’s place. I always love supporting small businesses. The owner is funny and always works to satisfy my needs. By the way, the best of the best quality gloves you can ever dream for. I still have all of my original pairs. I have multiple pairs simply because I love variety when I train.

I have been coming to this store for years since its been a landmark on the lower east side of manhattan. Its a family owned business with a great knowledge of boxing equipment. I actually think their gloves are better than everlast because they seem to have more padding and better quality leather. I continue to return here year after year and the owner(I think his name is Len?) is always friendly and offers advice on what is best for my needs. I’ve never ordered off their website because I’m a local, but the owner said they have a new and improved site. Prices are VERY reasonable. I also recommend them for uniforms. My mothers school orders from them every year. This store gets a HIGHLYRECOMMEND!

I am constantly having to remind myself that I chose this sport and no one is forcing me to participate in it. With that said, maybe it’s time I rethink my decision making skills. But when the time comes that I have to refuse my trusty friend Bourbon and rely on the services of a Sauna(picture an outfit made entirely out of very thick black garbage bags, with elastic at the ankles, neckline waist and wrists) suit, table tennis starts to look like a much better option. As an amateur prize fighter I am often required to forgo the finer things in life, such as rich foods, partying like a rock star and booze and replace them with sweat, hard work and getting kicked in the head. In times like these I’m grateful for G & S Sporting Goods. Need a mouthpiece? They got ‘em. Bag gloves and those funny looking high top boxing shoes? Got those too. The last time that I went, they were even having a sale on Air Jordans. Unfortunately all I need was a «fat suit» and a mouthpiece, so the AJs remain on the shelf. G&S would have gotten 5 stars but their selection of Muay Thai related gear was non-existent, but who gives a crap about Muay Thai, other than me that is. G & S rounds out their supply of more mainstream sporting goods in a more than adequate manner. Basketballs, footballs, bats, jersey’s etc… The location is small but they seem to have a large storage area so who knows what treasures they’re hiding in the rear. Next time you’re feeling punchy, hit up the guys at G & S, get yourself some hand wraps, boxing gloves, headgear and a mouthpiece, come find me and I’ll smack you around, or at the very least challenge you to a game of Ping Pong.
