Hey Fun Buns aficionados– is this cart still around? I work in the area and the reviews sounded awesome, but I haven’t seen it around.

I am a fan of carts/trucks that promotes culture and diversity. Pork buns are mainstream now but Fun Buns is different. They offer more than just your standard pork bun. On my last visit here I ordered the combo which includes 3 buns + bag of Asian chips or drink for $ 10. I tried the pork, duck($ 1 extra) and bulgogi. All 3 buns were tasty and it was the perfect amount of food for lunch. They are so generous with their meat portions that I had to use a fork and knife.

Buns on the run! You can’t pass this up for lunch. I’ve tasted all 4 of their buns, pork belly, beef bulgogi, duck, and chicken. I would rate the best one as the beef bulgogi. The flavor is amazing and could easily do that with some rice. My least favorite was the chicken, which tastes very similar to what you would get when ordering from a taco truck and not asian in any way. Very fast service!

Just grabbed lunch for the first time at the fun buns cart! I am happily munching on a bag of Golden Sweet Corn, while I write this review. I tried two buns: the Peking Duck special bun and the Pork Belly bun. The pork belly was tasty, though a touch on the overly fatty side. The peanuts and cucumbers added a nice textured element to it. The Peking Duck bun? That was amazing. If I could redo lunch over, I would just get a million of the peking duck buns and just eat on them for the rest of my life… so completely amazing. The service was friendly, quick, and fast. The food was inexpensive… I’m totally happy and can’t wait to come back next week for more Fun Buns!

Their buns are delicious and cheap. They are such a great lunch option – won’t break your wallet and will fill you up. Two is good for me. Awesome customer service as well. The workers are super friendly and never skimp on ingredients. I always look forward to seeing their cart :)

Returned a year later and the experience today was fatty, chewy, bland and underwhelming. The pork belly was under seasoned, lacking of flavor and probably rushed during the cooking process. The pork belly skin was so chewy and NOT melt in your mouth, it was almost like I was chewing bubble gum. gross. The slice of cucumber seemed like an afterthought to give the bun a crunch. My buns needed cilantro or atleast a bit more pickled mustard to pick up the flavor. It hardly had any… assembly issues. New chicken curry was also bland. Either the curry flavor needs to be enhanced, or the picked vegs should be bolder. Just a bit off. Prices also went up. 3 bun combo for $ 11 now. Truck on 49th btw 6th and 7th.

Tried the Buns last year in the city and still waiting for it to come back. i loved the combo because you can get one of each and even thou it seems small, It is very filling especially with the drink and chips. if you haven’t tried yet, its worth making the trip

The only food cart that I have recently gone to(and more than once) I always get the sampler which has 3 buns(one of each) All good. plus a drink(which I always go for Thai Iced tea in a can — but is always too sweet) As all carts they move around and I haven’t seen them downtown in a long while. Maybe they will be back in the summer.

I dare say, the pork belly bun is better than the Momofuku bun. I’ve tried pork, beef, and chicken. All are tasty, but the pork belly works so well with the peanut topping. I’d literally crave these buns and wish the cart was parked outside my office more often. Service wise, I had some negative experiences. Once they lost my order, and/or I’ve waited too long, and they gave me the wrong quantities.(for example, I’d receive one pork and one beef instead of two pork) I’ve gone to the cart in Dumbo about 6 times and the service improved. I noticed they’re slower/more prone to mess up when there are two people working instead of three.

Been seeing this cart for a while now around Midtown East decided to give a try. Ordered the chicken bun and it was really really good I added some of the Hoison sauce they have on the side and it was amazingly delicious! The chicken was cooked very nicely and the bun was nice and soft I will definitley be back to try the steak and pork belly buns. Yum!

im eating the buns as im writing this review… so that its fresh in my mind. 1) service is SOSLOW. there were about 10 of us wait for our food. its not like this needs to cooked on the spot. it took around 15 minutes for me to get two buns. the whole point of the food cart was suppose to be fast right? 2) flavorless meat – i got pork and beef. both were very bland and didnt have much flavors. i thought pickled veggie would give it that lil kick. nope bland too. i had to keep adding hoisen and siracha to it. a good pork bun needs no extra sauces!!! 3) pork belly was not tender enough. it was dry and stringy. pork belly(cooked the right way) should literally melt in your mouth. one extra star only bc they sell the spicy prawn crackers and thai tea drink… nope, will not be returning.

I look forward to this cart being in Midtown West on Fridays. The buns themselves come with a bit of pickled mustard, your meat of choice(beef shank/chicken/pork belly) and are topped with some crushed peanuts and cilantro. The meat itself is always well cooked — super tender and delicious! The buns are nice and soft steamed buns that are just awesome. The best deal is the $ 10 combo, which comes with 3 buns of your choice(love the pork belly and beef, but the chicken is also very good), a drink(I usually get a soda… the thai iced tea, while great, is too sugary for me), and a HUGE bag of chips/corn puffs. I particularly like the spicy shrimp flavored ones. The 3 buns by themselves fill me up at lunch time, so I usually end up saving the chips/puffs for an afternoon snack.

Yumm! Yes, the buns are small, but they are packed full of meat! Choose your chicken, pork belly of beef shank and order up! Each bun is only $ 3 and the 2 bun combo is only $ 8(includes a large back of chips and drink) This is a great on-the-go spot. The buns are packed full of goodness, although could use a bit more flavor.(maybe something sweet drizzled on top)

I went to this cart pretty late in the day and they were out of the pork belly so i went with the beef shank. I was a little skeptical when i saw the size of the bun, but they packed a lot of meat into there. The flavors were awesome, and the beef shank was extremely tender. I’m definitely gonna go back and try to get there earlier to try out the pork belly.

I tried out this new steamed bun cart from the people behind Bian Dang. I’m a fan of their truck so I figured this would be pretty good. The menu is simple, steamed buns with either braised pork belly, chicken or beef shank. They dress the buns with cilantro, mustard greens, peanuts and a hoisin based sauce. Combos come with shrimp chips and a drink. I thought the buns were OK. The meat was flavorful and tender but the buns weren’t quite as soft and moist as they should be and I thought overall the entire thing tasted a little dry. Some extra sauce slathered on top would’ve gone a long way. I know it’s not a fair comparison, but Ippudo and Momofuku’s buns are considerably better.

Fun Buns, Fun Buns! I love me some buns because they’re really fun to play with and they’re really yummy to eat. A welcomed addition the the New York food cart scene, Fun Buns brings the goodness of Taiwanese buns to the Manhattan lunch scene. The schedule for lunch is 11:30am-2:30pm Monday: Midtown East — 46th& Park Tuesday: DUMBO — Front & Adam St Wednesday: WV — Varick & Vandam Thursday: DUMBO — Front & Adam Friday: Midtown West — 48th and 6th The menu is pretty straightforward. Three buns are on the menu. Beef, Chicken, and Pork Belly. A single bun is $ 3, but the way to go is the 3 buns, a drink, and a LARGE(think a Frito Lays Big Grab, but slightly bigger) bag of shrimp chips for $ 10. That’s a pretty decent deal. That comes out to about $ 2 for a bun. The buns are actually a pretty decent size. I was surprisingly full after the 3 buns. I went around 1:15 — 1:30 this past Monday and the dude before me got the last Pork Belly bun. Make sure to get there a bit earlier if you want I had the Chicken and the Beef. Without a doubt the beef was money shot worthy. It was so soft and tender. The taste was perfect. It reminded me of a dish my mom made. It was literally fall off the bone tender. Even better was what the bun was paired with. It was paired with crushed peanuts, cilantro, and mustard greens. The mustard green was little chopped goodness perfectly complementing the meat. The peanuts were a good change of pace crunch. I was so happy I opted for 2 beefs The chicken was good, but nothing to write home about. An even more exciting part was the Taiwanese Apple Cider. Just the mere fact that they offered it, provided for the more authentico experience. Looking forward to trying the pork belly. I assume it’s going to be pretty good. Honestly how can you ever screw up pork belly. Be prepared to wait a bit. It’s a 2 person crew. One taking orders and one making food. The food guy was definitely backed up and non-stop. WIll be back to try to pork belly.

I’d have given it more stars if I could. Here’s an excerpt from my blog describing only the food. This was luxurious stuff guys — and at $ 3 each, larger than you might think. …Their menu is simple: pork belly or spicy beef, both served with 5 spice, pickled mustard, crushed peanuts, and cilantro over a soft steamed bun. As you may now know, I’m a die-hard, borderline masochistic fan of spicy food, so of course I went for their spicy beef first. It was properly tender and would easily have fallen off the bone had it had any — super moist inside, boldly savory with notes of anise, garlic, soy sauce, and a faint citrusy sweetness. The bed of pickled mustard below brought a mellow sour contrast to the mix and the crushed peanuts contributed a welcome textural crunch. The chopped cilantro atop gave it a faint whisper of fresh and minty flavor that disturbed the savory profile of the meat enough to brighten the entire sandwich. I sampled their pork belly next; stuffed with tender, fatty pork belly, and accompanied with the same supporting cast as the spicy beef, but yet this was an entirely different experience. The pork belly definitely stood out more, rich, luxurious pork flavor with moist fatty meat that melted with just the heat from my tongue. It instantly transformed from sandwich to savory pork soup in my mouth and was just downright indulgent… Please see the rest of my review along with pictures here.

The fun bun cart is on the coner of 46th and park avenue on mondays, and i decided to give it a try because i have never had viet buns before. I had the pulled pork and the beef bun, and they fit right in the palm of my small hand and they were absolutely delectable! With the combo you get a choice of drink and chips(prawn chips, both spicy and regular, and another variety with salt and vinegar but I didnt really pay too much heed), and its under $ 9. The perfect sized lunch and just the right balance of comfort and protein that’ll make your stomach happy.

I was on lunch when i spoted the Fun Buns food cart… i was super excited since i loveeeeeeeeeeeee pork belly buns!!! Despited the fact that i already bought lunch. i still wanted to try it out. There are 3 items on the menu. Braised Pork Belly, Lemongrass Chicken, and Spicy Beef Shank. But since they are newly opened, they only have the Braised Pork Belly for now… each item on the menu is $ 3. After i got it, i was super excited to try it out, the buns were pretty small, and came with pickled mustard greens, crushed peanuts and cilantro. The bread was ok… tasted kinda hard, the pork belly was good… but i wish it was fatter… and the pickled mustard greens were good… nothing like good old suan cai!!!
