Food Merchants Cafe

This place has gone way downhill. It is cheaper than some other places, but not by much, and you get what you pay for, which is lower quality ingredients, which seem like they often are not fresh. Some of the staff isn’t great, either, and on a few occasions my order has been screwed up, and the manager never seems very apologetic about that.

Another midtown lunch spot, but guess what? It’s never crowded! I’ve been here about 5 times between 12:30 — 2:00pm and I was in and out with my food each time, zero wait. There’s a panini counter, salad bar, soup section, and finally, the brown rice bowl section. I’ve gotten the King Creole bowl every time, and it hasn’t failed me yet! There are nice sized chunks of chicken, brown rice, a jambalaya sauce, sausage, and heaps of kale in it, and it’s very filling. I don’t feel hungry again for a few hours after eating it. They claim it’s only 500 calories, but I really can’t believe that. Comes out to a bit over $ 10.
There are plenty seats here all the time, and it’s pretty odd that it’s so empty in here. This place looks pretty new so maybe that’s why. If that’s the case, I really hope it doesn’t blow up in popularity so I can keep getting my brown rice bowl on!

The serving size was a little small, but ok. The chicken, eh. could have been cooked more.
Place has ok seating, but it looks like a high school cafeteria.

As I walked to work this morning, I took a flyer being handed out by this lady only because I felt bad. Well it turned out to be a pretty sweet deal! For food ordered online you get 25% OFF.
So at 12:30PM I visited their site. Opted for the lunch combo of Tuscan Chicken half sandwich and mushroom soup. Upon checkout added the discount code 25OFF and voila! Total cost was $ 5.71 SWEEEEEEEET! They even had time blocks for pick up so they prepare it few minutes before hand.
The food was carefully packaged with soup plastic wrapped. The sandwich that had chicken, roasted peppers, and greens on ciabatta tasted good but the mushroom soup was a little on the salty side.
Hmmmm I wonder what they have tomorrow…
