Hardest massage I’ve ever gotten, bordering on intolerable, but that’s the way I like it. Cured my back for about two weeks. Only reason it doesn’t get a perfect score is the practice of. surprise!. stopping short when the timer goes off so they can sell you more minutes. I asked for another five minutes on my left side and he insisted on 10. I was annoyed, but for a $ 1 per minute it was worth it and I gladly paid.

This place opened up just down the street a little while ago, replacing a much beloved kiddie hair salon. My son and I had both took a requisite mourning period for the horse and train rides out front, and then I got to thinking about massages. I’ve never been one for going to a spa. It feels overly decadent to me, maybe. And I’m a guy. But this place was so close(I pass it daily) and my back was so tight I figured what the hell– at worst, it would be the most efficient massage visit ever. I got the 30 min deep tissue with Peter(he and Emmy seem to be the folks who run the place– they’re lovely but English is not really on the menu). The place is nice– clean and comfortable with soft music. And Peter was great. I often have trouble with a massage not being hard enough(amateurs, granted) and if anything, I eventually needed to ask Peter to lighten up a bit! At $ 30 for 30min, it felt like time very well spent. Best of all, I got a huge hot towel on my back after the massage to remove the oil! Granted, my experience is limited but I’ve NEVER had that done. One of my massage pet peeves has been that I didnt want to go back out into the world with oil all over me. So that was both relaxing and cleansing. Extra points — I’ll be headed back.
