Came here for brunch with a friend today. The wait wasn’t too bad considering it was a Sunday and they don’t take reservations for small parties. The staff was nice and attentive. The atmosphere was quaint but casual. Diners were equally split between being families and groups of friends. The weather was uncharacteristically warm so they offered outdoor seating which was set up very cute but cozy. Definitely wouldn’t encourage groups of more than three to sit outside. For drinks, I had the gin and juice, a very light refreshing gin and grapefruit juice cocktail. My friend had an enjoyable bloody mary. The food was very tasty. Honestly, gave them only three stars because it didn’t blow me away but the eggs benedict with smoked salmon was delicious enough to order again if I’m in the area. Also the french fries were very good. They’re served with a gorgonzola dip which I’m sure would be good if I liked gorgonzola :) Worth checking out and venturing to the west village for.

The entire staff made my first visit to Extra Virgin a great experience. The truffle mac and cheese is BOMBDOTCOM. They definitely gained a new regular :)

I’ve only been here once and it was amazing. Came on a Thursday and I’m not sure if they try to keep their playlist #TBT but it was perfect. Old school R&B was just the perfect touch. I ordered the goat cheese beet salad which is a must and I was blown away by their butternut squash ravioli(and I’m not that big on pasta). Great first experience and I will be coming back.

So came here for brunch and will be back again for brunch! Absolutely loved the French Toast. Although a little heavy handed with the syrup. Probably ask for that on the side when I order it again. My gf had the Huevos Rancheros. I think I had the better dish. We split gorgonzola fries, very crisp fries and well if you love cheese this is a must! Small place so make reservations and enjoy!

Another great option in the West Village for brunch! Like most spots in the area, the restaurant isn’t very spacious but cozy enough for a meal with a small group of friends. The wait time was around 15 – 20 min for Saturday brunch so pretty standard affair. There’s also a nice bar area to wait at. Once we were seated, we started with a round of cappuccinos, which were served in adorable stainless steel mugs! For our mains, my friend ordered the frittata while I had the baked eggs! The baked eggs, served with tomato hollandaise, and sprinkled with pancetta and spinach were delicious! The eggs were perfectly baked, and everything else was just so well flavored. My only complaint is that the toast underneath the egg was really soggy, but that’s small enough that it can be easily overlooked.

Omg how does this place have such good reviews? First of all, there seems to be an identity crisis here. I’m sitting here, in this Italian restaurant, listening to Jon Mayer and watching sportscenter on the tv. The food! We ordered appetizers: lobster rolls and bacon wrapped scallops. The lobster rolls are a joke. They’re the size of a quarter and are all mayonnaise. The scallops had something gritty in them. Couldn’t tell if it was salt or if they were not cleaned properly. Gross. The bill: $ 80 before tip for some tiny gross apps and 3 drinks. Thanks, no thanks.

Two words: pumpkin risotto… Omg this was ahmaaaaaazing. If it’s still on the menu you must order it, they even roasted a mini edible pumpkin for on top. You best believe I ate the whole thing. Other highlights were the fried buffalo mozzarella and chopped salad. I cannot wait to go back and try more things on the menu!!! Also to note is they have outdoor seating with heat lamps so you can people watch. Great spot i definitely recommend checking it out!

Wowser. Everything was soooo good. The ambiance was exquisite and it’s definitely a nice date spot in the west village. I didn’t want to get the pistachio crusted goat cheese salad bc been there done that, everyone has something like that amiright? I’m glad they were out of the prosciutto wrapped scallops bc the goat salad was unique and fantastic. My roommate recommended the butternut squash ravioli and I was reminded why she’s my favorite roommate. And the white chocolate blondie was a nice size(of course it was amazing, duh)

I was very impressed with everything about this restaurant! We were really excited to check this place out but were nervous about getting in since they don’t take reservations for small parties, but luckily two of us got there early and claimed a spot while we waited at the bar for our other two friends. At the bar, the friendly bartender gave me a drink menu and I was surprised to see that most of the cocktails were cheaper($ 13) then just a glass of wine. The drinks looked very tasty and seasonal, however I wasn’t in the mood for one so I stuck with a glass of Pinot Grigio. I had also noticed that a bottle of this wine was only $ 45 and split between the four of us was definitely worth it. Finally the rest of my party arrived and they seated us at one of the few open tables left. We decided we would share an appetizer, each get an entrée, and share a side. All of the appetizers looked good, but the one thing that was seriously calling our name was the side order of the truffle mac and cheese tart, so we got that to start. It was so truffley and creamy and delicious, I wish it was bigger. However, since it was so strong and heavy, it ended up being the perfect size so we could continue eating the rest of the meal. I was going back and forth for so long about what to order, but I went with the mushroom crusted virgin chicken, with sweet pea risotto and truffle broth. It was one of the best chickens I’ve had in a while, probably the best in NYC. They serve one piece of white and a small piece of dark which is the perfect balance. The mushroom crust was so flavorful and worked well with the creamy truffle broth and risotto. Three of us ended up getting the chicken and one got the pumpkin risotto, which was beautifully displayed inside a pumpkin, and the perfect seasonal entrée! As a side we got the roasted brussels sprouts with caramelized apples and woah were those good! It was dark so I didn’t know if I was eating a piece of brussels sprout or a piece of apple, and the suspense was very intriguing. Since it was two friends birthdays, we decided to share a dessert. My friends chose the apple tart, which wouldn’t have been my first choice, but it was decent. The ice cream that it was served with was the best part. When we got the bill, I was surprised to see it wasn’t so bad for a bottle of wine, 4 entrees, an appetizer, a side, and dessert. It wasn’t cheap, just wasn’t as expensive as I expected. I definitely want to come back and try everything on the menu — it all looked amazing! Definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner in the West Village.

We really wanted good food, but we also wanted to have the game on to watch the Mets. I was honestly pleasantly surprised that Extra Virgin delivered on both! The restaurant was packed on Tuesday but we only had to wait ~15min for a 9pm walk-in dinner. Which was fine, since we were able to sip on beer and watch the game. Note — there is not draft beer(possibly the only downside). Then again, I doubt many associate hoppiness with Mediterranean cuisine. I get the sense that the menu changes pretty often, but terms of food, we had: — Mushroom + Pumpkin Risotto: OK, I’m quasi averse to risottos because they’re drenched in a nauseating cream sauce that takes all the fun out of the dish. NOTSO with this plate. The creaminess came from the gorgonzola but it was not overwhelming! I loved the hefty chunks of pumpkin, squash and mushrooms all throughout. And side note, the plating was so sweet, with the risotto overflowing from a mini-pumpkin in the center. — Mahi Mahi on Arugula: I’m not the biggest fan of Mahi Mahi but this dish had a bit of a kick(which made sense with the pairing). All in all, I’d love to come back!

Would give it a 5 but I was kicked out so it ruined the experience! But yes, the food deserved a 5! Our waitress deserved a 5! The hostess deserved a 0! My friend and I ordered the Truffle Mac n cheese, the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Sea Bass to share. Everything was amazing! I mean simply delicious! We both agreed it was some of the best food we have ever eaten. We then ordered coffee after dinner. We honestly could not complain. So back to this 0, we were kicked out of the restaurant! After our dinner, we sat and chatted and about 15 minutes after we paid for our meal, the hostess came and said«I can carry your to go food to the store so you can leave.» The table next to us stopped their conversation to ask if they really kicked us out. We were just as shocked. One of the most embarrassing and rude experiences I’ve ever had. I want to say I’ll be back because I truly enjoyed the food but that turned me off! I just felt unwelcome!

Decent meal for dinnertime. I absolutely loved the Chardonnay Steamed Mussels though! Omg, the sweet chardonnay sauce complemented the chewy sea mussels wonderfully. I absolutely love how Mediterraneans make their seafood and this was no different. A light, wonderful appetizer to start of dinner. The hailed truffle mac ‘n cheese tart was definitely on the richer side. The pastry puff for the tart was so buttery and combined with the creamy mac n’cheese was overkill. Definitely on the greasier side… Also it felt more like fancy American diner food than Mediterranean-Greek. Ravioli was decent; a combination of savory and sweet. I’m a sucker for pasta, so I enjoyed this. But it wasn’t anything super-memorable. We also split an apple pastry dessert, which had the same tart base as the truffle mac ‘n cheese tart. I guess they really love their buttery tarts here.

Solid place for brunch. We strolled in around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon with 3 people and was seated right away in a booth table in the back. The menu is pretty simple — you get some standard brunch options and some lunch options at the same time. I had the Eggs Benedict with the bacon and salad. Kind of wish I had gotten the fries instead because the pictures on here looked so good! The bacon was probably the best part of entire dish — it was thick cut and grilled to perfection. The result was a crunchy base for my poached egg. Service was decent — our waitress took our orders, which came in a timely manner and then we didn’t really see her again until she came to ask if we needed anything/drop off the check. The music is pretty great — it’s relaxing and jammy without being loud and obnoxious. I could actually hear and converse with my brunch buddies.

3.5 stars. I came here for dinner on a weekday, and my friend and I were seated immediately without reservation. I love the ambiance of this place — dimly lit, spacious and well-decorated. It is a great venue for a date, girls’ night out and any celebratory occasion. But unfortunately, I wasn’t terribly impressed with the quality of their dinner food. For appetizer, we got the Chardonnay Steamed Mussels. I liked the garlic and lemon flavor in the soup, but the mussels themselves were very small in size and bland. The Wild Mushroom and Buffalo Ricotta Ravioli was my favorite part of the meal — the ravioli was perfectly cooked and had a generous amount of ricotta cheese stuffing, and the porcini sauce was delicious as well. We also got a side of Truffle Mac and Cheese Tart, which was rather disappointing. I could barely taste the truffle and it wasn’t particularly rich in cheesy flavor either. The most disappointing part of the meal, however, was the dessert. The Warm Apple Tart was drenched in caramel sauce, to the point that I couldn’t really taste the apple, and had a bitter aftertaste. My friend and I each ended up paying about $ 50 after sharing one appetizer, one entrée, one dessert and two glasses of wine. Despite the nice venue, I don’t think the food alone was worth that much given its portion and quality. I may come back to try their brunch in the future, but probably not again for dinner.

Love, love, love. Stumbled upon this gem on Unilocal and so glad I did! It’s not only conveniently located 5 minutes off the 1 train(coming from Morningside, that is a hugeee plus!), but it’s also slightly tucked away from the main street so the atmosphere both in and outside the restaurant is less rowdy and intense. Couldn’t take pictures of the food because it was too dark, but more reason for y’all to go and see for yourselves! My friend and I ordered the following dishes: 1) Seared tuna on a bed of coconut rice 2) Shrimp Fettuccine 3) Crème brûlée 4) Assorted sorbet with Mango, Pineapple and Rasberry Since I’m gluten free, I didn’t try the fettuccine, but my friend finished the entire dish clean so I’m guessing it was delicious! As for the seared tuna — oh, my, goodness. The tuna pieces, which were chunky and large, was pink the center and the edges were covered with crispy sesame seeds; they rested on a bed of coconut rice that had either pieces of coconut or some other type of nut embedded; I loved the burst of flavor I got while just eating the rice! And the curry drizzled around the dish wasn’t too overpowering; you could still enjoy the tuna and coconut rice flavors. The dish felt light, healthy, yet filling and absolutely yums. The crème brûlée was also impressive; the custard tastes more eggy than usual, but I liked it as it cancelled out some of the caramelized sugar’s sweetness(which wasn’t even that sweet, but I’m not a sweets gal). And you can never go wrong with sorbets:) Great service, lovable atmosphere and location, phenomenal food! Oh, added bonus: I walked out of the restaurant to find a man playing the cello beautifully at the corner of the street. Needless to say, I will be returning!

I had Basque scramble, my friend had eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. As much as I enjoyed the basque scramble, my friend didn’t like her food. She tasted the salmon and said it was old and made her nauseous. So she didn’t eat it. When the waiter came and asked how the food was, she said her food wasn’t good and the salmon was old. The waiter just acted indifferent, didn’t apologize and still charged us for the bad food. So two stars because of the bad food and bad service, one extra star for delicious basque scramble.

I really thought this was going to be a 5-star experience. And it would’ve been, if not for the service(or lack thereof…). Extra Virgin is a trendy yet inviting spot nestled in one of the quieter West Village sub-neighborhoods. But let’s take that word – trendy. Trendiness implies popularity. Why did I expect such great things from this place? Because I had heard great things. From, like, lots of people. So before I get onto the positives, I’ll just say that this place is ill-equipped to deal with the volume of people that come here – at least on the weekends. So I came here on a Friday night with my sister around 8:45. We both drooled after looking at this menu, so it seemed like the natural choice. Upon walking in, I saw the dreaded clipboard adorned with lined paper – the list. Luckily, it was only a 20 minutes wait. Extra Virgin does an impressive job of maximizing space. Almost too good of a job. By that I mean that the table adjacent to us got to know our, er, backsides quite well by the end of the night(as we did theirs). It was only mildly awkward. So now for the ingestibles. To start, I ordered the«Extra Virgin»(white cranberry, citron vodka, triple sec, cherry, lemon twist). Nothing special, but still nice. We were both very very very hungry by the time we sat down(around 9:15 or so), so we decided to split the mussels to start. My sister and I are spoiled given that we grew up on seafood in Martha’s Vineyard, so most things pale in comparison. These were quite good though – they’re prepared with fennel, roasted garlic, shallots, lemon confit, and tarragon – a nice, light way to start the meal. But then came the waiting game. I think it took around 45 minutes to get our entrees. Not cool. So not only was the service slow(getting our waitress’s attention was a feat), but the kitchen decided to take its sweet time as well. Like I said, it seemed to be a simple matter of staffing. When we did finally receive our food, thank god it was good. Super tasty and flavorful. I ordered the Lemon-Crusted Sea Bass with fennel potato purée, crispy artichokes, salsa verde and avocado purée. Fresh, powerful flavors that came together beautifully. The sea bass was perfectly crispy on the outside, as it should be. I’m not a fan of mashed potatoes(I know, some American) but these were actually decent(that’s a lot coming from me). You’d think if a place was this busy 24/7, they’d want to get people in and out efficiently. Nope. By 10:15 or so, we were desperate for the check. We ended up having to ask someone who was *not* our waitress, because it was becoming egregiously late at that point. I’m home writing this review right now so clearly we were not held hostage at Extra Virgin, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve been that anxious to leave a place. Which is a shame, because other than the service, it really was a pleasant place. My advice? Don’t go on a weekend. Plain and simple.

The Quick: Not the best dining experience. Overall the food was a disappointment except for the lemon sole which was amazing. The Details: The restaurant is charming and on an adorable block. I’ve heard amazing things and was so excited to try this spot. I was part of a party of 5, and 4 of us were unhappy with our apps and meals. To start, the lobster tacos were fairly bland and had an embarrassingly small amount lobster(and were $ 7 each?!). The«rare tuna» entrée was extremely overcooked, the branzino was flavorless, the ravioli were undercooked and chewy, and the crab meat in the crab stuffed flounder was over-seasoned and gritty. All four of us rated our dishes 2⁄3 stars, and would not order them again… Plus they were extremely pricey! The only saving grace was my mothers dish, the lemon sole. It was fantastic. We all left our dishes half eaten and stared longingly at her meal. The Damage: ~$ 250 plus tip for 4 people, not worth it unless you just get the sole.

If only I had known about this restaurant sooner, then maybe I would have more time to try every single thing on the menu! A friend of mine suggested meeting up here for dinner after work and after a quick glance at the menu, I was sold. As a pescetarian, I’m always on the lookout for restaurants with a good selection of fish and vegetarian options, and boy did this restaurant have both. After both of us had arrived(they wouldn’t seat us until both were there), we got a great table by the window. NOTE: if you want an outdoor table, be ready to wait 5 – 10 minutes. The waitress immediately brought us tap water which in my opinion was especially good. Call me a water snob, but this water was smooth and fresh. It took me a few minutes to decide what I want because the menu was so beautiful. Lobster tacos? Watermelon and feta salad? I was in heaven. I opted for the sea bass with an avocado paste and my friend got the shrimp fettuccini, which both arrived in record time. The sea bass was fresh and flaky and melted in my mouth. I savored every bite with the complementary avocado paste and mashed potato bottom. I have zero complaints about this restaurant: the staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was superb. Well worth the price of admission.

Extra Virgin is probably another one of those great date spots in the West Village. It has plenty of wine and a few imported(bottled) beers to choose from. In addition, you can grab a nice cocktail. There’s some outdoor seating and you can see all the nice brownstones in the neighborhood. Recommended food: fritto misto, salmon, and lamb. Fritto misto had various types of seafood in fried form – crispy. I really enjoyed the baby squid. It’s great if you love calamari because it’s mostly calamari. There’s also some fried lemon slices, which are interesting according to my friends(I didn’t try them). Salmon was well cooked – not dry. It came with some good whipped potatoes at the bottom. The potatoes complemented the salmon pretty well. Lamb – each piece of lamb was well cooked. I would recommend medium rare(we ordered medium out of consideration for friends). As you can gather from the menu, it’s lamb in three forms – lamb chop, lamb kebab(includes the sausage), and lamb shank. It’s a really great dish, but you obviously need to appreciate lamb to enjoy it. Not recommended: mac ‘n’ cheese tart and the Tuesday herb roasted chicken special. I was super excited for the mac ‘n’ cheese tart because it was mac and cheese with some truffle – sounded like a winning combination. However, it really just lacked flavor – nothing to the dish. I probably enjoyed the pie crust more than the mac ‘n’ cheese. Herb roasted chicken – we have some conflicting reviews. I personally thought the chicken was moist but lacked flavor and my friend thought it was dry but pretty flavorful. I thought the risotto that came with the dish was dry and not flavorful and my friend seemed to enjoy it. We both agreed that we enjoy the fried onion ring on top of the chicken. Service was okay. Our waitress could have been a little more attentive even though it gradually started to get more busy. We had to ask the other servers for help a few times. Advice: Extra Virgin isn’t the restaurant at the corner – they both have green on the outside but don’t be mistaken like my friend.
