Like all frame places, this is expensive, and they really try to up sell you. However, they are real professionals, take care and time to give you what you want, and made a fantastic end result. Also use the 25% off coupon from Unilocal

Excel did a great job with a large print I had. They were able to deliver on time and had everything ready to go when I arrived. When I first came in the associate was helpful in showing me different options, but I didn’t like that I had to point at frames for him to retrieve rather than grabbing them myself and browsing like you can at other places. The cost was pretty competitive though I will say when I mentioned I had the Unilocal deal after he showed me the final price he immediately started trying to upsell me on other options that he didn’t present before which was fishy. They also don’t have price lists or transparency which made me skeptical too.
Overall I trust these guys and they deliver at a good price– just be wary of the strange sale tactics.

Went to this place with four large canvases that needed to be stretched and they did in less than a week and for a great price! Definitely the best place in Manhattan. Will be going back here for sure!!!

Folks from excel are the best. Real people, doing real framings. The guy who works there is friendly and will help you find an option that fits your budget (if you are a student like me, this is the kind of place you are looking for)

Excel is our go-​to when we need anything framed. The guys who work there can be quiet, but they’re really friendly. Most importantly, they have a great eye for frames and can recommend a range of choices if you aren’t sure what you want. They are also great about working with you if you want some cheaper options for frames and matting (Look for coupons Unilocal and online too).
They seem to be trusted by professional artists (obvious from the other reviews here) and are trusted by galleries too. We got two large photographs from a popular gallery in Soho and just had the gallery do the framing on them — it looked great. When we got a third photograph, we decided we would do it on our own for something more creative. When the gallery gave us their recommendation for framing ourselves, they recommended Excel! Apparently they have been using Excel for almost a decade to frame the pieces they sell.
All in all, their work quality is great, they’ve got great selection, and the guys who work here are helpful. Custom framing is expensive no matter what, but Excel’s work is definitely worth it.

I am an artist who has a painting that is for sale in the window of this store. The store owner and employees are incredibly friendly and quite professional. They have an impressive collection of fine art in which I am thrilled to be a part of. I highly recomend Excel Art & Framing III for all framing and art purcashing needs!

Great framers at a great price. Elsewhere the cost just to replace glass, has been hundreds of dollars. And I had no problem with rude people working there. Just someone that was very professional. I went there on the advice of a client, have had quite a few NYC companies frame for me over the years, and would always only go there again… If the only thing that you have been used to is buying some cheap frame from IKEA, as one person mentioned, then you don’t understand the importance of getting real work framed properly.
I used them first 3 years ago, with a Neutra image that I bought on eBay, and the frame looks as good as it did when I picked it up.

I used to be in the business, and I was considered a framing expert in design back in the 90’s in Los Angeles. I know quality, cost, and everything else. I had two 1950’s impressionist paintings framed, and their knowledge was excellent and quality was great as well. They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. If you’re looking for high quality and reliable service, I highly recommend this place.

Great quality, friendly service, and above expectation delivery. The job I wanted done should have taken two weeks, but they got it done in one week. It was more than costworthy. My father had the same piece of art framed in NC, and he did not pay much less for it, so considering Excel is in NYC, they are very reasonably priced.
I do recommend them for anything you need framed that does not have any sort of art dealer’s kind of value. For all else, they’re solid.

This is my first ever Unilocal review, and I use Unilocal for just about everything in NYC. Work and life catch up with you, and even someone with the best of intentions finds themselves up shit creek without a paddle sometimes.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and I had bought 3 beautiful prints from
, with the idea to frame and hang them in our apartment for his birthday. Prints arrived, sat packaged up tidily in my office for a couple of weeks… so tidy that I completely forgot about them and woke up the morning of my boyfriends birthday kicking myself for not taking care of that weeks ago.
So I got to work, and did a search on Unilocal for framing stores nearby. I saw mixed reviews of the shop but the ‘same day service’ description of one post caught my eye. So I called the good people of Excel Art & Framing Studio that morning, explained what I needed (3 prints, 18×24, black frame — no bells and whistles), and said I needed them that same day. They said no problem, come on in and let’s take care of it.
I walked in, went to the man at the counter who I had spoken with not long before. He greeted me kindly and instantly began helping me with my order. He provided options in a decent price range, and good variety (as far as black frames go — who knew!?). We then decided on the frames, I paid the man (only something like $ 80/​frame, which isn’t bad in comparison of other services!), and came back at the end of my workday to retrieve my three, beautifully matted and framed prints — just in time to rush home and hang them in the apartment before my boyfriend had any indication that I nearly dropped the ball on his big 3 – 1.
I would recommend anyone to Excel Art & Framing Store who isn’t looking for some artsy-​fartsy old dude to ramble on for hours about which black frame is superior to the other — and just wants to get their work framed in a fast, simple manner. Enjoy!

Yet another frame shop staffed with rude people. I walked in looking for help and two different employees just stared at me. No greeting, no questions, no enthusiasm. Maybe I’m sensitive to this because I have worked as a framer before, but what gives with NYC framers? Are they all unhappy? What is going on? I like to frame a lot of stuff, and I definitely won’t be going back to this dump.

I feel kind of torn about this place, after getting something framed there recently.
On the one hand, the framing job that they did was really great. I have absolutely no complaints.
On the other hand, the employee that helped me was not very cool. First, he seemed really annoyed when I came into the store, and very slowly and reluctantly walked over to help me.
But what was more egregious was that when I told him that I wanted a simple, modern, brushed metal frame, he ONLY showed me elaborate wooden frames. When I repeated my request, he picked out some wooden frames that were painted (!) to LOOK metallic.
Being rather gullible, I figured maybe the shop didn’t have any metallic frames. So I asked for a quote on the wooden-​painted-​to-​look-​metallic frame. The price was quite high, so I said that I’d think it over and started to walk away.
It was only THEN that the employee stopped me and took out some metallic frames and told me that they were a lower price!!!

He also gave me a bigger frame/​border than I’d asked for, which increased the cost. I didn’t realize this until after I’d paid for it.
Even though they did an excellent job, I don’t like the antagonistic feeling of patronizing a business that will try to squeeze an extra dollar out of me through dishonest means, so I don’t think I will return.

Not only do the people who work here never greet you and act like your presence is a huge nuisance, but their work is crap. Every single piece I’ve had framed here has fallen apart within a year.

I took three 20×200 prints here for custom mats and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and they got the job done very quick. Done in a few hours. Very happy with the result!

These guys are knowledgeable but a little overpriced. If you’re not trying to spend $ 150+, I would recommend going to this place up the street next door to Gothic Furniture (13^th and 3^rd) and buying your own frame. Will only run you $ 50 – 60 with glass if you put it together yourself.

I found this place in NY Magazine «Best of NY» from several years ago but they were on point. These guys are very knowledgeable about the frames and, more importantly, the right frame for your painting or photo. I took in a smaller peice several months ago and it was ²⁄₃ of the price I was expecting, turned out better than I had thought as I went with their recommendation, and it was finished within a week!
I went back last week and have been working with Joed (sp?) again on a large peice my mother painted. He recognized me and has been VERY helpful for this frame. Given the amount of money I’m spending, I feel very confident about their work.
