Elte Event: Normal

I always hear people complaining about how headphones don’t fit their ears (pun intended). It was interesting to check out a company who’s focus is targeting this dilemma. The headphones at Normal are specifically molded to fit your ears exactly. Watching the process was so interesting. First they take photographs of your ears and then the high tech 3D printers create your headphones right on the premises. It takes some time for the process to be completed, this is not a quick turnaround.
I also enjoyed checking out the space at Normal. The start up fits perfectly in the Chelsea neighborhood. The shop has high ceilings, cool knickknacks like rhinestoned Cat Woman head sculpture and devil book ends but also gigantic pictures of… you guessed it… ears! Ears of all shapes sizes and age!

I love when Ruggy does events off da beaten track a bit. And tonight was a truly unique experience! Thank you to Ruggy and the staff at Normal for a very educational, engaging and hip event.
Ruggy always finds new places for Unilocalers to explore and I appreciate his creativity and thought into planning this event.
I showed up a bit late around 7pm and there was a huddled mass in the back of the store. Apparently, I had miss the informational on the earphones, but no worries, extremely nice staff on hand to answer any of your questions.
These are custom-​made 3-​D printed headphones to specifically fit your unique set of ears that yo mama gave you. They take pics of your ears and then they will build a pair for you. You get to chose the color of the soft touch coated inlays? (think elf ears) and it also comes with a custom case w/​specialized monogramming.
I like this concept because I never have earphones that fit properly and would also agree that sound leakage is definitely an issue.
Oh and if for any reason your earphones do not work, they come w/​a lifetime guarantee. So if they become damaged, you can replace them, no questions asked. I was also told they are water-​resistant and one staff told me that she accidentally put her headphones through the wash, and they still work!
I am excited to see what these headphones offer (will pick up my custom set in a few days) and anticipate my ears will be taken to a different level.
