I just moved to the neighborhood and stumbled across this place. I bought 10 things there and they charged me for 14. I went back and the manager told me to come back the next day because he wanted me to identify the cashier. Fortunately I live close and went back the next day and was given the run around. When I asked for the manager and told one of the workers what happened, another customer said, «you too?» Another worker wanted me to identify the cashier. I couldn’t see anyone familier. I told them I was there July 4th in the morning. They offered me nothing but more waiting. I don’t have time for this kind of nonsense. I’d rather not deal with this kind of business. I am not shopping at Elmundo and would not recommend them. Cheap/low quality merchanise with cheap/low quality managing and service. I guess the service hasn’t changed from the other reviews written about this place.

Don’t let the look scare you. If you care more about prices rather then environment take a stroll in. There’s three levels of values and good deals. This is the only place I know where you could get a Madonna statue, club clothes, and a shower curtain in the same place for under $ 10 dollars. First floor has clothes and the basement has home wares and personal care. I believe this building was a former bank so that explains why its so large. I see some reviews mentioning that some of the employees not being able to speak English. In my opinion if you ask around you will be able to find someone that does. If your in the Washington Heights border which predominately has Spanish speaking people what do you expect? I doubt anyone would question language if they were in Chinatown. 99 cents is 99 cents in English and in Spanish.

I’ll be honest. Elmundo scared me at first. It looked sort of sketch and I felt anything I bought here may have been counterfeit or unregulated. The furniture looked questionable and the clothing patterns were heinous. I don’t want to know where those orange stilettos came from. Ambiance is not the strong point at Elmundo. What is, is the bottom floor. Great deals on all home goods. From bulk toilet paper and paper towels, to pots and pans, décor and bed sheets(packaged nice and tight). Super convenient for Hamilton Heights peeps.

It’s not the best store in the world, but sometimes they get the job done when you need something for the house. Like the other guy said, mostly random overstock/fall off the truck type of things. Oddly enough my sister seems to find decent things there, but I’ve never been to excited about digging through racks and piles of absolute chaos.

It is the Spanish mall of Harlem/Washington Heights. This store has everything that fell off the side of a truck, from knockoff Phat Farm shirts to Disney blankets. the place is put together without clear direction or coordination. It is an all purpose store that you can get cheap everything.
