I dined here before it closed and had a really tasty meal at the bar. It’s too bad it closed because the prices for high quality meat dishes were very reasonable. The atmosphere was a little bizarre given that it’s a butcher shop, but I would have returned. It’s too bad they closed.

What a wonderful little spot to have found. Always calm and quiet, a perfect spot to grab a seat and glass of wine and catch up with friends. Prices are good, the chicken we had was delicious, waiters wear cute little smocks. Friends and I like to count this as our secret spot.

Food was amazing and awesome service! Definitely recommend the Albondigas and Paella Mercado! One ounce of the Jamon Iberico is perfect for two people… delicious and presented exactly how it should be(based on my travels to Spain). Was going to go to The Standard, but so glad we came here instead!

When the Standard Grill told me it would be a 15 – 30 min wait for a table and half the restaurant was empty I had El Colmado on the back of my mind. So thank you Standard for getting me to go somewhere else. The food here is on point and the service even more so. If you haven’t been here yet try it out as its a true hidden gem in Meatpacking. Also to top it off the prices are fair, music selection is good and the décor is well thought out.

Went here on a whim last night after a visit to Whitney and deciding that while we wanted a light meal of small dishes to share, we also wanted to sit and be served and not wander around, dealing with crowds at the two area food halls(Chelsea and Gansevoort Markets). What a great find! Four of us sat at the corner of the counter and had a great meal. Service was very helpful and friendly — no issues that we changed seats three times due to counter height– and everyone was interested in helping us to try new things, and enjoy our meal. We sampled tastes of two different wines by the glass before choosing, and our server was great about suggesting a different vegetable dish when our order was duplicative. All the food was delicious — but tops were the smoked beet salad, market salad, and a special of lamb rillettes served with crusty grilled bread and a fennel and strawberry salad. Will definitely be back when we are in the area, although they don’t take reservations so it will be tougher when it’s not a holiday weekend.

Meatpacking is known for $ 15 cocktails, obnoxious wait times and girls stumbling in heels on cobblestone streets. El Colmado Butchery is a refreshingly simple break from all of that, that has yet to suffer from the after-work crowd effect. Happy hour during the week means $ 1 oysters and half-price sangria — making it almost too cheap to make sense. You’ll be seeing me here as soon as the clock strikes 6 on weekdays moving forward.

Very charming restaurant with focus on high quality small bites to share. Sat at the small bar at 7pm on Saturday after walking the Highline, enjoyed all 6 of our selections, the Rioja on tap was excellent. Friendly staff, especially Matthew who we chatted with at the bar. This is a great place to escape and just enjoy good food, drinks and friends.

What a great find, thanks to Unilocal. For those of you who want to visit the Whitney and brunch or lunch in the area, this simple tapas place fits the bill. My friend and I were ready for a day at Whitney’s new location and we both hadn’t had lunch. A Quick search suggested Gansevoort Market. Nah– last time I went, it was disappointing and overpriced. El colmado butchery had small bites to share, high ratings and great pics. We had Pulpo a la Plancha, duck leg confit, beet salad and huevo al Diablo. Huevo Al Diablo($ 2/each) — I wouldn’t recommend the deviled eggs because they weren’t amazing, and tasted under salted. Pulpo a la Plancha($ 13) — order this! amazingly tender octopus tentacles above a salad of quinoa. Beat salad($ 13) — plentiful large bowl of yellow and red beets with a light vinaigrette and pickled radishes. Order this if you live beets. Duck leg confit($ 22) — tender fall-off-the-bone duck leg cooked in its fat. Solid dish. And the server/bartender and host was kind enough to suggest their Spanish wines(of course!) Gotham Blanco($ 9) was rich and fruity. Perfect for a summer lunch. The best value was the wine and beet salad. The Pulpo was perfectly cooked. I just wanted more than two tentacles.

I liked this place but thought it was a bit spendy, It’s a fairly casual situation — order at the bar and your food and drinks are brought to your booth. I liked my dry white wine from Penedes, and there were no complaints on the house Sangria. A butifarra de cerdo ran $ 11, there was a bit of vegetable — grilled scallion I think. Some nice chimichurri. The deviled eggs are yummy, but ½ an egg for $ 2 on the bar seems high. The tortilla(spanish omelet) was good, I think they moistened it with a bit of oil. A Zimmern pleasing slice of pâté made from pig’s head was nice if small. The toasted bread is good, wished it was more plentiful. We moved on to share a plate of confit du canard, one cuisse(leg and thigh) for $ 23, with a bit of potato and mushroom. We still needed more food so we plumped for a chorizo of pato(duck) which was on point, and a bit of the cheese — a Mahon type. On receiving the bill I noted I was charged $ 13 for the pig’s head, which seemed excessive as it was advertised as a $ 6 special. Although this was explained that the $ 6 special was for two small bites/balls? and not the slice, this charge was eventually reduced. I kind of regret not having any of the sliced cold meats, but the iberico seemed awfully pricey and I am not all that excited about serrano these days. Have to say a meat plate brought to a customer at the bar looked quite nice.

My wife and I grabbed lunch here after a walk on the high line. Great little place comfortable and low key. The sandwiches were excellent and the food was fresh and done just right. Service was friendly and we really enjoyed our meal. If your out walking the high line and you want to avoid some of the louder and larger places for a bite to eat give this place a try.

In an unassuming location near the high line El Colmado is pumping out awesome Spanish inspired food and tapas. Three of us went for late brunch on a Sunday and had our choice of tables as the place was quiet. We ordered the meatballs, pork and apple bocadillo, salad of the day and patatas bravas. The meatballs were a little too dry and oily but everything else was delicious. The sandwich was perfect to split for three and was a great combo of salty and sweet with crunchy delicious bread. The salad of the day with duck confit and grapefruit is one of my top five salads ever, seriously light but tasty. Lastly, the patatas bravas were expectedly delectable, crispy with a kick of heat and a creamy sauce, they were a perfect side dish.

A fan of El Colmado in GWM, I was excited to try the new outpost. Unfortunately, I wasn’t wowed. Resto is small, with an old school Spanish vibe… perfect spot for a pre/post Whitney snack. We went on a warm summer afternoon and were looking for some nice chilled wine to cool off. Unfortunately, the wine was served way too warm and we had to wait longer than we wanted to begin our afternoon drinking while the wines chilled. We didn’t sample a lot from the menu, but we couldn’t get enough of the meatballs. Incredibly flavorful — delish! The shrimp in garlic oil, while very tasty, was incredibly salty. Service super friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, though, when I want a cool vibe tapas fix, I’ll visit the GMW spot over this one.

Perfect spot for delicious tapas after a walk on the Highline or an afternoon at the Whitney. Menu has a nice selection of both traditional tapas and some fabulous creative, flavorful small plates. Had ensalada del dio– refreshing lovely compliment of flavors. Followed with Arroz con carne– yummmm! Spare ribs were the special — not only delicious but also nicely presented. This butchery is reminiscent of lovely local eateries found in Italy and Spain. Upbeat yet relaxing vibe to enjoy a meal with friends and family or solo at the bar. Staff is warm and balance attentiveness with respect for quiet dining enjoyment. So many places in Meatpacking are a «scene» that it was wonderful to find this gem. BTW great seat at the window if you just want to enjoy watching the passing crowd.

El Colmado Butchery serves delicious food and sangria in a comfortable, tasteful space in Meatpacking. Perfect for a weeknight of tapas and conversation. While a bit overpriced,(I suppose on par for the neighborhood) both the food and sangria were delicious. I highly recommend the serrano jamon with tomato jam on bread. And while I’m not sure that the preparation of the patatas bravas is authentic Spanish, Colmado’s take was still absolutely delicious!

Everybody wants to be Seamus Mullen. Chefs all over America, informally yet consistently, vote Tertulia as the best Spanish restaurant in the States. With this type of praise, I was pumped to try El Colmado Butchery, his new joint near the High Line in Meatpacking, right around the corner from The Standard. It’s underwhelming. A friend and I recently went after work to catch up. It was admittedly early, but even without a reservation, we were able to get a booth. The décor is what I’ll call«Iberian Minimalist». They want you to feel Spanish-y, so they stacked some bottles of wine, cans of tomatoes, and jugs of olive oil on the wall. The deli counter, filled with MEAT, is the focal point. This is a butchery, after all.(And, as an aside, the deli counter also had pre-cooked vegetables. When you order that hunk of meat with roasted Brussels Sprouts, it doesn’t seem like the vegetables are cooked to order.) She started with red sangria and 3 oysters and I with Cava & Oysters(happy hour special includes one glass of bubbly + 6 oysters for $ 11 — great deal!). We both agreed the oysters were delicious — plump, creamy and perfectly briny. Given that this place is a butchery, we then decided to try the beef jerky. Whoa. Avoid. It tasted like they fermented it in fish sauce and anchovy paste. Thank goodness it was only $ 1 per ounce(and we only ordered one ounce), or I would have been miffed. To cleanse our palates, we ordered another round. For how uncrowded it was(maximum 8 people, including U.S.), it took the server a really long time to bring the drinks. As we waited, we looked at the tapas menu. I was completely underwhelmed. Restaurants like Alta, Boqueria, and Socarrat have an amazing selection of tapas. This tapas menu is sparse. Instead, we decided to order a cheese plate. Again, sparse. Limited options. And only one option was a Spanish cheese. I’m not saying they need to have a selection as diverse as Murray’s(this is a butchery, after all), but the cheese options were disappointing.

Pick your pork chop at this unique Seamus Mullen spot. The MPD could not be a more perfect place for a butchery. Lots of Spanish wines which I love. Ate: Chuleta Wood fired Brussels sprouts & escarole Salad of the day Total:$ 26 I picked my chop– bone– in bathed in something plus sprigs of rosemary. The large salad with an anchovy dressing was delish. The chop arrived with monstrous flavor, but was OVERCOOKED and the veggies tasty. The green sauce served with the chop made the dish.

Equal parts espresso café, wine bar, tapas restaurant, and butcher… for all of your palate pleasing needs, it seems El Clomado has you covered. I popped in for a quick bite so I only had a small smattering of what they offer. But that tiny sample size was enough to garner a return visit quite soon. They have a nice selection of Spanish style tapas to choose from. Lots of familiar looks(marinated olives, patatas bravas, Spanish meats and cheeses) but being a huge fan of deviled eggs, it was an easy choice to try one. It was a bit pricy for a single half egg($ 2), but that half was really good. It’s smoked and topped with egg yolk, mustard, peppers, and a few other bells and whistles. An easy winner. They’ve also jumped on the bone broth bandwagon. I’ve had a few other restaurant’s versions during this pseudo food trend and I’ve been disappointed every time. But El Colmado’s beef broth with ginger extract is as close as I’ve come to finding something as great as Marco Canora’s varietal at Brodo. From what I understand they’re not yet featuring the broth to go yet, but that’s going to change soon. Overall it’s got a cute diner vibe with with a manly touch. Namely the bearded wait staff and the various animal carcasses on display in the middle of the lunch counter. Said animal carcasses are part of the butcher component of El Colmado, so if you’re the type that likes to be on a first name basis with your local butcher, this could be a great new addition to your future shopping trips.
