Empty on a Friday night probably because the bar tender is the biggest douche bag in the world. Wouldn’t serve me or my friends because we didn’t have NY or NJ ids. Way to act like a bigot, all of us live on UES, and half of the city has out of state ids. He lost us as customers forever, not that we would ever want to come back to this boring, empty, Irish dump.

Nice cozy sports pub with decent food. The negatives would be a limited menu. If you are looking for a great food menu head to the East End by 87th.

wings are wayyy wayyy too hot — and I’m someone who likes my wings hot! the bar tender warned us they were hot so we ordered mild and I couldn’t even eat them, ridiculously hot.

Went to watch a game today and a COCKROACH wandered up my friend’s arm after we were there for less then two minutes. I would strongly discourage anyone from going here. Can I give zero stars?

Love my local pub — torn between ¾ stars so let’s say 3.5. Brick walled bar, comfortable, good beers on tap, good whiskey, comfy bar seats, pool table, a few games but good friendly attentive bartenders. Hey, it’s my hood number one, it has many tv screens so great for watching fav sports match. Now they finally opened a kitchen so can get rather decent but limited menu bar food.

Listen to me. No matter what anyone tells you, East End Tavern is awesome. The atmosphere is incredible, even on a Wednesday night before a snow storm. If that isn’t enough for you, we met the coolest guy I know to date. His name is Nigel, and he was our spectacularly talented, charismatic bartender. It’s worth a trip to the 1st Ave bar crawl just to hang out with this guy. We had a great time at the Tavern. Oh, and Nigel is seriously the best.

I had the most ridiculous experience in this bar. They don’t even deserve a star. The bald bartender is the worst of the worst. Four of us went for a off-market baseball game. Nobody were there so we sat in the middle of the bar and asked the girl bartender to put on the game for us. After reminding her 3 times she finally put the game on the tv. During the game the bald bartender switched to another tv which was far from us. They claimed they have to put on the mets game in the center tv. First of all, we were clearly watching the game. Secondly, there was not a single soul in that bar except for us. Apparently, they don’t care about the customers. We went to this bar since it first opened and always feel very unwelcome by the bartenders. Do not go there especially when the bald guy is bartending.

At one point, I suggested to friends that this is what bars would look like in purgatory(there’s really nothing distinguishing it in any particular way, other than it’s standoffish service and mediocre selection). Now I realize that I overestimated them. My wife and I stopped in to have a drink and let her use the bathroom. The bartender announced that there would be a $ 500 minimum. We walked out. They really aren’t so special as to merit a 5 cent minimum. Talk about parading a turd.

There’s nothing particularly special about this place: it’s good for outdoor seating(although drunken patrons being loud outside can be an annoying problem), and the last time I went(at the end of June 2013, one of the hotter days of the year) the air conditioner was on the fritz, so it was stifling in there. However, one thing that I love is their macaroni and cheese plates. I’ve had the broccoli and bacon options, and they usually hit the spot that needs hitting. They have the typical beer and liquor selection, and maybe next time I’ll try the margaritas I saw mixing by the cash register. Nothing to go out of your way for(unless you crave mac and cheese), but if you’re in the neighborhood, definitely worth a visit.

This place needs to keep its patrons in check. Hey bartender, since there are usually only like 10 people in the place at 1AM, feel free to tell your noisy patrons to either go back inside, or keep moving. Seriously, every night, there are a bunch of assholes standing outside this bar, yelling at the top of their lungs. Many bars that are located near or in residential buildings have signs reminding their patrons to keep it down while their outside. But, because this bar only attracts douchebags who are too douche-y for 2nd Ave, it’s not surprising.

I recently moved right across the street from this bar, so it’s a real shame that they lost my business forever last night. When you start to read this, it might seem like I’m complaining about the jukebox — but my real problem here was that I was bullshitted and mistreated by the staff. Let me explain. It was a Friday night, after midnight, and the place had a fair number of people in it but it was not crowded. Me and two friends were playing some pool. At one point shortly after arriving, I put $ 5 into the jukebox and picked 6 songs. An hour went by. An hour and a half. Two hours. I wondered why my songs were not playing, especially since the pool table is right next to the jukebox, and for that whole time, I had not seen anyone else putting money into it. And the songs they were playing sure didn’t seem like someone else’s selections. They were the same generic bar songs they always play here — things like Livin’ on a Prayer, Semi-Charmed Life, and All Star by Smash Mouth. So it seemed pretty obvious to me that the jukebox had eaten my money without playing my songs. I said something to the bartender about it, and he told me that I just had to wait because other people must have been picking these songs we were hearing. I pointed out that nobody else had been putting money in the machine, and he responded that people must be using their phones(!) to program the songs. The thing is, I’m not an idiot. And it shouldn’t have been a big deal, it’s just a few songs on a jukebox for 5 bucks. But I don’t like being lied to and taken for a chump. A few minutes later, I went back to the bartender and asked for my 5 dollars back. He repeated the same line he had given before. It was clear I wasn’t getting my money back. I had been ripped off. It was only 5 dollars, but still, I had been ripped off. Not cool. Suddenly, my first song comes on. Hmm. So someone behind the bar had switched it on because I was putting up a stink about it, and to make me look like an asshole, complaining over nothing. I am upset. It was getting late anyway; me and my friends leave during the second song of the 6 I had programmed. As we are standing outside smoking cigarettes(we can still hear the music), I notice that my playlist had stopped after the second song. I guess when they saw me leave, they figured it was safe to switch the jukebox off again, and go back to the playlist they really wanted to play. I hate the way I was treated here, and made to look like a fool. It made me want not just my $ 5 back, but also the money that I had been spending on tipping the bartender all night. I will not be coming back here. There are plenty of other generic pubs in the east 80s to get a cheap beer.

What can I say about East End Tavern? Hmmmm… we came there the night before Thanksgiving when the city was rather empty but East End still had a few of us patrons there enjoying a casual drink. It’s a pretty standard bar – good place to watch a game, pool table and bar games, comfortable seating, decent selection of drinks but no kitchen. This isn’t the kind of place you’d go out of your way to visit but it serves a purpose.

I came by here for a friends bday recently and had a really great time. It wasn’t over crowded and the crowd was pretty chill. There’s a pool table and some other games which kept everyone entertained. The bartender was nice and the drinks were served as doubles automatically. Prices were on the lower end for the city which was a pleasant surprise. The only downside was that they don’t have a kitchen. I would definitely come back here for another low key night out or a sporting event. All of the booths had smaller tvs at the table as well as big screens around the bar.

my first proper review of 2013, and it’s a place I went to back in 2012. go figure! we swung by this place the night before Thanksgiving. Manhattan was a ghost town that night, and this was one of the few places open in the neighborhood. East End Tavern is a sports bar with a solid array of taps. Brooklyn Seasonal, Czechvar, and one or two craft breweries on tap(their menu currently says they have Kona and Goose Island) are the upper end of the spectrum so far as taps go, and they’re not expensive. if you’ve seen one sports bar in Manhattan, I guess you’ve seen them all, but the bartenders were friendly and the atmosphere was laid-back. granted, this was the night before a major holiday, but this didn’t seem like a place you’ll find too many Woooooooo Girls or the other annoying types of people who are increasingly clogging up New York. the cushioned tables(with individual TVs for each booth) were really comfortable, and there were games in the back(pool, virtual golf). it looked pretty spacious in the back. not sure I’d call it a destination, but if you’re in the area and want to chill, it’s a solid choice.

This bar is growing on me. Nice crowd. Small TV’s at every booth. Smithwicks on tap. Decent beer selection. Lots of flatscreens. Pool table. Good crowd. Good tunes. Free phone charging station in the back is also a big plus.

Love this place for the big-ass drinks, big-ass booths, multiple big screens, and personal booth TVs for viewing the game of your choice. The only downside is the lack of food, but they’ll let you bring in food or order delivery, so it’s not a problem. The regular bartender is cool, and they even have a pool table in the back. Bonus: the ladies restroom is super-clean, temperature-controlled, and smells like vanilla-scented candles(’cause you know we ladies like that sort of thing). The bar can get a little chilly, so be sure to bring a warm jacket or a willing cuddle partner.

Cheap brews, cool bartender and always an empty pool table(that actually accepts dollar bills). EVERYTIME I’ve been there, the place has been empty(which I love). No need to fight for a drink or bang pool sticks on my head. The free phone charging station in the back is also so money it doesn’t even know it. It’s free. Confused?

East End Tavern has very little to distinguish it from the other taverns in the East 80’s. But for some reason I keep going in this place. Maybe because it is close to my apartment. Maybe even a snob like me needs to hit a dive bar every once in a while. It has 12TV’s to watch any sporting event you like. They are opened early in the fall and winter for day drinking and football. They appear to have no small glasses. Every drink is served in a 24 ounce water glass(this is probably why all my friends like it so much) and the drinks are cheap considering how much you get. It is cleaner than most other nearby bars. The bartender is laid back and generous with the liquor and the concentration of frat boys isn’t nearly as high as the bars on 2nd Avenue. It’s not worth a special trip, but if you find yourself roaming around the UES, East Side Tavern is a decent place to grab a big ass drink and relax before you continue on your journey, especially if you like to watch TV. Have fun. G

A friend referred to East End Tavern as the local«stumble inn.» That is so true. First of all, Yorkville hardly has a shortage of pubs and pub-like establishments, but this place seems to be the least sketchy of them. It’s actually fairly empty most of the time(I walk by almost daily), but there are always a few people gathered inside to watch the TVs up on the walls and behind the bar. We ended up here as our«last stop» on New Year’s and it was totally to-be-expected. Pints of beer run about $ 7.00(which is slightly on the high side for a place like this, in my humble opinion), but I don’t mind paying that since it’s generally clean and the crowd is fairly low-key. They have a number of very good beers on draught, and weeknight/Happy Hour specials which would make coming here a plus. Other pubs in the area seem to attract the venerable Yorkville post-collegiate, semi-professional crowd, but this place seems a bit off the radar. For those times when I’ve had almost just enough, but want to wrap the night up somewhere, this is a very decent choice.

I’ve never been able to figure this place out. The crowd is strangely old but doesn’t really look or act it. It’s in an interesting residential-ish area and I’m pretty sure it borders a church. They do have some decent deals for football games and it’s pretty crowded, but again I’m not really sure why…
