I had never heard of this place until coming here for the NYC Downtown Shorts Film Festival. Upon entering the actual theater area a feeling came over me like many wonderful things have happened in this room. Full of history. The building is from 1889 as well as the murals inside which are beautiful. It has been host to Yiddish theater to Andy Warhol hardcore porn screenings to the taping of Francis Ford Coppola’s famous operetta scene from Godfather 2. They are beginning a 1.5milliion dollar restoration. I’m looking forward to coming back to Michelangelo’s show and exploring the other areas of the building.
