I’ve been exploring a lot of Chinatown eateries during Jury Duty. Here’s the verdict on my latest«find,» Dumpling Café aka New Asian(who knows what the actual name is): Pros: –Location next to the Broadway/Canal subways. –Service is pretty friendly, if insanely paced in that frantic Chinatown way. Cons: –Prices are suspiciously high given the tight competition(high rent location?) –Beef noodle soup was only OK. Noodles were falling apart and the braised beef was way too rubbery. This place is a hole in the wall so best for take-out/quick eating.

A small place beside the station. I came here because I felt very hungry after work. I tried their pork dumplings. It was $ 4 for 8 pieces. I’d say this play is a go-to place for its convenience and late hours but the food doesn’t come too quick. I can’t be accurate rating the quality of the food as I was so hungry to the point where everything going inside me would be satisfying. I ate this on the train, sorry guys, I am one of those obnoxious people. I did get looks but I am 100% sure that the smell isn’t as strong as the other types of dumplings out there. Maybe the chives one would stink up the cart more. I think I’ll be giving this place another try. Definitely will if I’m starving on another weekend after work.

Stopped here for some bubble tea — all of which left us with upset stomachs. The iced coffee was pretty good, but one of us the piña colada«smoothie» and it was literally warm liquid. We all had to throw them out.

This has been my go to spot for a quick inexpensive bite in Chinatown. The prices are great and the dumplings are tasty. The service is also really nice and attentive. You can also get fresh juices and bubble teas for cheap.

This is definitely not a go-to spot for dumplings or small snacks. The food here is not always freshly made, especially if you drop by here at the end of the day. The sole reasons I’ve stop by here a few times is because of its convenient location beside the N/Q/R train entrance, and because of the cheap prices. If it’s earlier in the day, the pan-fried dumplings are okay. Later in the day, it seems like it was cooked a couple hours ago, and it probably was. The temperature and the texture of the dumplings gave it away; it wasn’t hot — at all. The pancakes and bakery items in the front usually look like it’s been sitting there all day, so I thought it best if I wanted pancakes, I’d pop over to Vanessa’s Dumpling House. And, if I wanted any bakery items, well, there’s plenty of other bakeries to choose from for better quality. One star for convenience and another for cheap prices.

One star for being a food spot that opened next to the second most busiest train station in Chinatown — very convenient for subway riders that may be hungry. Second star for no lines and cheap food(in quality and pricing). My boyfriend and I stopped by here so I can grab a small snack since we were waiting for 2+ hours for his mom while she was at the doc. Dumpling Café is super small and absolutely no room to sit and eat really and truly poor ventilation. We ordered a scallion pancake and I don’t know why I would think it would be freshly made because it wasn’t freshly made. The woman grabbed a scallion pancake from a pan filled with other scallion pancakes and food that looks like it’s been sitting out for hours and shoved it into clear paper bag and shoved it in the microwave to reheat. At that point I wished we could have left. The scallion pancake was $ 1.50 — I guess we got what we paid for. The woman didn’t even give us a cup of soy sauce for the scallion pancake either. The scallion pancake was greasy, bland, not crunchy, moist, and just horrible. I deeply regret ordering and coming here. I’m not sure how their dumplings taste like, but don’t think I would take a chance.

Pretty horrendous. I give them props for only charging $ 1 for most of their breakfast and snack buns(you know the ones you find in Taipan Bakery, etc. with cream, meat, or red bean inside) but that’s only because they can’t afford to charge any more. I got two buns and another pork & chive… pancake? There’s no English equivalent for this food item, as it’s just a pancake with meat and chive stuffing. It’s called Jiu Cai He Ze in northern China and is usually pretty good. The monstrosity they made costs $ 1.50, which admittedly is quite cheap but this thing was pretty much empty on the inside. The filling that I could see through the almost paper-thin dough was just enough to cover the inside area… meaning it’s got like 0 thickness. In other words, it’s just thick enough to fool you, but it’s just thin enough to make you sad. What the hell man.

the food is good here and I do check to make sure it’s been cooked after the warnings here. I get food poisoning pretty often in nyc, tbh. It can suck but… oh well.

I stopped in today on my way to the Q train and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the new owners have set up their bakery. The offer baked goods, steamed buns, dumplings, bubble tea and a whole lot more. The servers were friendly and speak English. The steamed vegetable bun I ordered was not as good as the ones I used to get at China Fun where there was more of a variety of vegetables inside, but for $ 1 they were worth the price. While I appreciate the warning about the food poisoning, I once got very sick after eating at Vanessa’s Dumplings but went back a few months later… it happens… now should I hear someone else got sick here, I’d reconsider coming back, but for now, I plan to stop in again! By the way if after I try the dumplings on my next visit I am impressed and not sick, I will raise my rating to four stars!

8 pork ‘n chive dumplings for $ 3! We also tried their steamed dumplings(the meat was so tiny) and strawberry and green tea drink(way too sugary). There’s small counters so you can stand and eat your cheap food quickly and then be on your way out. This is at a good location, right next door to the Canal subway station!

I heard through the grapevine that they gave someone food poisoning. Their stuff is pretty good, but I don’t want to tempt fate.

Great place… if they cook the pork. I used to enjoy this place, but please watch out for your own health. I’ve had issues a couple times — so shame on me now. I will not be returning to this place.

Friendly staff, cheap food($ 2.50 for a snack sized serving of dumplings) and actually tastes good too. Was very surprised as usually places that are cheap tend to be only«OK». I’d definitely drop back in again if I’m around. Its one of those places that I’d have no problems being a regular(cheaper than cooking). Don’t expect anywhere to sit though. It’s more a takeaway joint with a few stand up areas. Cash only(like most places in Chinatown)

Stopped by here today for their soft opening and tried the #1, pork and chive dumplings. These are actually cooked as potstickers. Overall these were very good. Compared to other dumpling places in Chinatown, the skin is noticeably thinner(more similar to Japanese gyoza) and the filling juicier(big plus). I hope they can keep it consistent, definitely good enough to come back for.
