Dueto Salon

There have been many times, that I have tried to step into a salon and do something fun with my hair. But I have always been instantly denied by the look as I walk in. All based on my appearance. I do not wear fancy suits. I’m just a casual t-​shirt and jeans kind of guy. Who wears snapbacks and fitted caps on those bad hair hair days. So I had the pleasure of finding this little gem. After doing some searching via Unilocal and Google. So I took a chance and said let me just push forward because lord knows I don’t know what else to do with my hair lol.
This past Tuesday, I was enjoying my day off down by Astor place. It was about 6pm and I said you know what let me call and see if they are available for me to swing by today. I delayed going to Duetto for 2 days now cuz of past experiences with other salons. I called and a man named Julio answers. I asked him if it was possible to be seen by 7 seeing as the salon closes at 8pm. He said it would not be a problem and that he would set me up with Axel. Excited I made my way uptown. The location is super easy to get to by the train. Less than a 10 min walk. I was given a very harsh glare from a woman. She had this puzzled look as if I lost my way and she didn’t know what to do. I almost walked back out, but told myself no not this time. I greeted her and said I have an appointment with Axel for 7. Still puzzled she went to the back to and asked for someone else to come to the front. The man greeted me with a smile, said yes we spoke on the phone. Let me take your coat.
The shop was small and quaint but I’m a simple guy so to me it was just perfect. My coat was taking by the very nice gentleman. He then offered me coffee or water while I waited. Coffee helps me relax so I had some of that. Next I was taken care of by a nice woman who washed my hair. Nothing amazing by it as she was very quiet but you know it was nice nonetheless.
Next was time to sit in the chair. I met Axel, very friendly, greeted me with a smile and was ready to get things started. He asked what I was looking for, I showed him a photo of what I wanted. He looked said smiled and said ok got it. Axel made me feel really comfortable and at ease. I was really nervous because I wanted my hair to look a certain way and wasn’t sure if it could be done.
The inspiration came from a photo a friend gave me and also animé inspired is what I was going for. He was concerned my hair wasn’t long enough for what I wanted. But he went ahead saying he would do his best to achieve my look.
Axel walked me through the steps he was taking. Giving me advice on how to take care afterwards and also options on things I can do with my hair in the future. By then I was the only one in the shop being taken care of and the man who greeted me earlier when I arrived. Axel explained to me that Julio so happens to be the owner!!! Wow! Too awesome!
Axel made great small talk, we happened to be from neighboring areas back home in Puerto Rico and we live near each other in the Bronx. This day just couldn’t get any better. Now as we wrap up my haircut. He shows me how to style and stuff. I’m still not sold on my hair yet. But then the miracle of molding wax and Axel’s expert style. all of a sudden BAM! That moment was the best! I can’t remember being so happy I FELL IN LOVE WITH MY HAIR AGAIN! I swear cuz 5 hours earlier I was ready to chop it off lol my story may have been long for some. But it was necessary because Duetto has changed my mind on salons.
The service that Axel provided was beyond fantastic. The owner Julio was so great right up until I left. Thanked me for coming by. I even purchased a few products. I definitely will be back here and will be sure to recommend this place to my friends! Thank you so much Duetto, Julio and Axel! You guys are amazing!

Loggia saved me! I came to her after getting the worst haircut this city has ever seen. Loggia is a master with scissors. The before and after is incredible. I will never go to another hairdresser.

I’ve been going to Dueto for 6 years now so this review is LONG overdue. Julio, who is also the owner, is incredible with both color and cut. Like most women, I am very particular about my hair. Julio listens carefully, takes his time and always gives me exactly what I want. He is consistent and excellent. He also makes me feel like a very special client (he probably makes everyone feel this way) and it’s always a treat to go to the salon. I recently had a blow out by Axel — who was also incredible! I’ve never liked when others have styled or blown out my hair but Axel did it exactly how I liked it! I HIGHLY recommend both Axel and Julio.

Looking for amazing color? Look no further. Dueto is the salon that will answer your prayers.
I’ve been coming to Dueto for my color (blonde) for a few years now, and Loggia is seriously the best colorist /​stylist I have ever been to. After searching salon after salon in NYC & stylists never quite «getting it right,» I finally found Dueto — and Loggia — and now will never go anywhere else.
Everyone that works at Dueto is super nice, and the prices aren’t bad for an UES NYC salon either.
If you’re especially looking for someone who excels at blonde color, seriously look no further. I HIGHLY recommend Loggia. You won’t be disappointed. She’s out-​of-​this-​world amazing.

this is long overdue, I had a blowout a couple of months ago and still remember how great the experience was, the staff are amazingly nice and polite, and my hair dresser was great at what he does!

I absolutely love Dueto. I have been getting my color, highlights and cuts there forever! I also get the straightening there and it is perfect for my hair.

Natasha is THE BEST stylist to ever touch my curls! I have VERY stubborn natural curls (South Asian, 3b-​ish) that few hair stylists know what to do with, even the ones at pricey salons in NYC that claim to be curl experts. Natasha took one look at me and knew exactly how to treat my hair. She gave me wonderful styling tips and never pressured me to try anything I wasn’t comfortable with– something that most stylists tend to do to me. She was also SO warm and friendly! The haircut was affordable as well– usually curly hair cuts are bank-​breaking! I don’t think I’ll ever go to another stylist again– Natasha, thank you for the awesome haircut! I’ve gotten so many compliments already! :) I’ll be back soon!

Do not go here unless you are a senior citizen looking for a trim and root touch up. If you want a young edgy cut and color find another place. I was too lazy to go from queens to my usual hair stylist in Chinatown and unfortunately paid the price (literally!)
Details:
I thought I’d try this salon looking at the amazing ratings, it was close to work and they had an appointment. I asked for highlights and an asymmetric blunt cut. What I got was bright caramel highlights only near my roots (I am a brunette, so this is not the ideal look) and the rest of my hair did not catch the color. The cut was far from asymmetric and far from what I wanted. I paid $ 260 as the damages.
I couldn’t stand looking at the disaster and called the next day to have it corrected. They first said the same lady would correct my hair, I was not ok with it, so the owner decided to step in and fix it. He first explains to me that the reason the color didn’t come out right is due to MY hair he then proceeds to add caramel tiger stripes on the rest of my head. He did nothing to get rid of the bright roots. The cut was extremely amateurish (by the OWNER!). I noticed that the salon was filled with senior citizens and at that point realized that that was the demographic they cater to.
They are very polite and friendly, but that is no substitute for a mediocre job and lack of value for money.
P.S: a week later I went to my usual hair stylist in Chinatown and had it fixed.

I went in for the first time to this salon for a single process. Axel took his time, consulted my hair, and we decided together what would be the best look for my face and skin tone. He was very attentive and great at explaining everything! I absolutely loved the final hair color, and had an amazing blow out that he taught me how to recreate at home! I had a great positive experience here!!!

This review is long overdue. I have been coming to have my hair colored by Julio for a few years now. I’m very particular about the color and the placement of my highlights. Julio has mastered this to a perfection! And if Im not happy he will gladly fix it. He treats his work like a piece of art and he’s the best artist/​hair expert I have found in NYC. Highly recommend

Loggia is a life saver. After getting «highlights» at another salon, I left with white spots and terrible streaky, chunky white stripes in my hair. It was horrific and I was in an absolute panic about what to do/​how to fix it without further frying my now over-​bleached mane. I called Dueto the next morning and I was told that Loggia would be able to help. She gave me a lengthy consultation, fully devoting the time to assess the damage and craft a tailor-​made solution. She was extremely, knowledgeable, friendly and honest about what was possible. I left looking a million times better — she managed to turn an awful hack-​job into a beautiful head of highlights. My hair feels and looks great and I have Loggia to thank. Go to Dueto, ask for Loggia, you won’t regret it!

Karina cut my hair and highlighted it. I have long hair with bangs and am very particular. She took her time and did a great job. Everyone was very friendly.

A great experience at Dueto, just LOVE my new hair color. I finally got the color I have been wanting for years but no other hairdresser understood. Julio was a genuis, he completely got it, took time to talk it through and explained how to achieve the look, at the same time as looking after the condition of my hair. Katrina was the colorist and did all the work, she did an excellent job and was a complete perfectionist. If you choose this salon you will not be disappointed.

Nice cut for the (hefty) price

Brittany did a great job re-​shaping and trimming my hair. She was friendly and personable but not overly chatty. I would highly recommend her!
Also, I just walked in and got an appointment 30 mins later. I was very pleased with customer service of the receptionist and everyone I interacted with.
Better yet, the salon is two blocks from my apartment!

Came here for the first time because I wanted a real Brazilian Blowout so I checked their website and found this place, which was relatively close to my apartment. I really lucked out because I called on Friday, got an appointment for the next day, and my hair looks amazing. Miranda did my hair and she is very sweet and skilled. The total process took around 2.5 hours but it was definitely worth the time. I plan on returning in a few months to get the process done again, and for sure will be requesting Miranda to do my hair again.

SIMONA SIMONA SIMONA! Best stylist I’ve had in years! The staff was friendly, the service was excellent and the complimentary cappuccino was pretty good too.
I read great reviews online and thought I’d give Dueto a shot. I had scheduled a single process color and a cut and blow dry… I got much more than that. After a consultation it was quite obvious that to get what I wanted we were going to have to do a much more multi-​process color. It’s GORGEOUS. Fantastic multi-​dimensional red with beautiful highlights. Christina Hendrix eat your heart out! It did take a long time but my hair was fried and had about 20 different box colors in it since my regular stylist has been on the road for ages. I was shocked at how reasonable the price was for the work she did. I will definitely be back!
