Duane Reade

The store is clean and stocked with just about anything and everything a drug store can offer. The service is wonderful, with staff and managers readily available asking if you need help finding something — and going out of their way to locate or order anything they don’t have which you need. Last night a perfect example– an employee asked if she could help me locate something, a manager went to their stock area to locate it then ordered the item when they did not have it. Then at checkout the cashier left the register to get more of a specific Halloween candy and even brought back a few options so I could choose… When I wasn’t sure how much candy was enough, I would have a lot of trick or treaters, the cashier honestly told me I may have too much … Many Cashiers at this location have shown this same level of A plus service with helpfulness, personality and a sense of humor. A + for this Duane Reade location.

Friendly and funny staff in the pharmacy.
I fill prescriptions for my mother and the staff are always so helpful seeing as I don’t understand half of what I’m filling! The pharmacists always take time to explain everything and always help me find the cheapest copay available.
The entire staff has a great sense of Humor and always make me feel welcome.
The front store has an assortment of friendly to not so friendly staff. Not always stocked in what I want but the male pharmacist is always willing to special order for me which is amazing.
I’ve never had any problems that couldn’t be fixed. Great pharmacy to fill your prescriptions.

I find myself at Duane Reade about once a week picking up a random item I forgot to get at the grocery store. It is 24 hours which makes it even better.
The candy selection is great!

Never enough cashiers at the front or pharmacy counter, and the majority of them are unpleasant to the point of rudeness. Too many dogs in the store, so unsanitary (and I’m a dog owner but I don’t drag her everywhere with me, especially in places that sell food!). Unfortunately, this Duane Reade is the closest so I go but always plan for a wait.

Terrible customer service at pharmacy. Cashiers are rude and confrontational. Pharmacist did not indicate one of my scripts was not covered and therefor omitted it from my prescriptions ready for pick up. Cashiers store wide disinterested in their positions, mean, rude and really need to improve their customer service/​social skills. They should retrain their staff or replace them. This is a store obviously poorly managed.

I know it’s Duane Reade, but the staff looks especially miserable at this one. And without fail, every time I’ve been here, there’s always a really long line.

Duane Reade in NYC is a wonderful anomaly that is still bizarre to me to this day. When I lived here I always ended up in this store once a day (no matter what). I’m pretty sure it was just because there isn’t enough hours in the day to do everything in NYC and they were open 24 hours 7 days a week. But no matter what, whether it was to buy milk or sugar for coffee in the morning or a 3am junkfood stop on the way home. I was in here. On days where I was a horrible dog parent and forget to pick up dog food. Duane Reade was there. On days where I was too lazy to go to Rainbow and pick up something for the Apartment Duane Reade was there.
It seems kind of silly to review a drug store chain, but when you visited this store everyday. It almost seems necessary.

The pharmacist was friendly and very informative. He took the time to explain my drugs and how I should take them. I’ve never had this kind of service. Will never go elsewhere.

UPDATE: The pharmacist actually gave us the WRONG drug, and the drug she did give us, SHE SPELLED WRONG! Stay away from his pharmacy … far, far away. The people working there are incompetent.
Wow … if you want your pharmacy perscription to be completely ignored for a half an hour and then take another half an hour to get while you’re waiting for it … then this is the place to go!
If you want the pharmacist to start arguing with you about how long you’ve been waiting there after complaining to the store manager … then this is the place to go!
If you want a completely horrible experience without any sort of retention and customer service saving … then this is the place to go!
In short, stay away. This store has uneducated people working there who obviously haven’t gone through any sort of training program for customer service and taking initiative. Here are a couple of tips:
1. If there is a wait, tell the customer.
2. If you tell the customer you are going to check and see if the medicine is available, actually follow up with the customer.
3. If you lied, and it’s actually going to be more than «a few minutes,» then tell the customer.
4. Don’t tell the customer you didn’t realize they were waiting there after a half hour has passed.
5. Don’t argue with the customer and tell them they’re wrong.
6. Don’t argue with the customer in front of your manager.
Terrible service; terrible management; terrible store. I will never purchasing anything from there again.
