Great sausage… My co-worker recommended it and I had the sweet sausage with onions and peppers. They owner is nice and friendly!

John at Dominic’s has the best sausages I ever had. No doubt about it. Hot and spicy with peppers, onions and hot sauce. So good. And his truck is spotless inside and out. All you haters need to get a life and eat some pork!

He seemed a little rushed and annoyed by tourists but who cares? It’s NYC. I’ve been working across the street from this truck for a few months and the smell was always enticing. I was leaving work early and decided to give the truck a try. I picked up a cheesesteak with just mayo and onions. He has a real cross contamination issue going on and I noticed that off the top. I watched him pour a box of sliced onions on the grill. Yes, you read that right. A box. He used the same utensils for everything. Especially when I told him I don’t eat swine. He stabbed through everyone’s sausage and then stabbed through the onion/pepper mixture. He mixed the fresh onions into the mixture. If I wanted peppers I would’ve ordered them so my sub still tasted like peppers. When my cheesesteak was up I took a tiny bite and made my way to the doctors office. I waited until I got home to finish up my cheesesteak and it was still surprisingly warm. About two bites in I’m wondering why the steak is so chewy. Come to find out there’s a foreign object in my sub. What appears to be a piece of a mop was in my food. It was the most repelling thing I’ve ever seen in my food. Usually I just read about others finding weird shit in their food but to find what I’m assuming is a used piece of an old fashion mop. I threw away 85% of my damn food and I’m still starving. I was already hungry when I picked up the steak and had to wait 3 hours to actually eat it. I will not be spending any more money on this truck. $ 9 down the drain. I really wanted to like this truck. I’ll be sticking to Shorty’s smh.

Work next to this place. John is always there taking care of everything by himself, so the wait may be a few minutes even after you order. The hot sausage is amazing but be prepared to fall asleep in your office after you eat that. It is heavy! You can ask for a lot of customizations. Observe the orders he is fulfilling for the people in front of you, and you may get some ideas about what you want on your own.

4.5 stars Bruhhhhhhh. This is the spot! Right off the subway, I was a little hungry on my way to battery park so I wanted to try some street food. Of course I was going to go for the hot dog until I pulled up Unilocal and saw this place. Along with about 15 men crowding it, haha. Philly cheese steak game on point, loaded with meat, grilled onions and cheese, oh baby! The customer service is exactly what you expect from a food truck in New York. Definitely coming back for more when I visit!

Always has and always will be the best sausage truck in nyc, hands down it’s the only sausage truck I’ve ever been to that actually serves sausage peppers and onions, not bread peppers onions and a hint of meat wish i worked nearby so I could eat it on the regular, thanks Johnny keep up the good work :)

Spicy Italian sausage hero was hot, fresh, tasty, and crazy quick! $ 8.50 for the sandwich, filling enough to easily constitute a lunch on its own.

This was a good Italian sausage sandwich. Solid in every respect and makes for a good lunch downtown. A bit pricey for a basic sub and there was a line. A fun alternative to Chipotle.

Yummmm — when my husband and I were walking around, we saw this food truck with a pretty long line. We had to check it out! Mr. Dominic himself was serving up some sausages; he was so friendly and awesome, and he had a nice grin on his face, creating Italian Sausages left and right. We got a Spicy Italian and the smell was just intoxicating. The sausage itself was just a wonderful blend of spiciness and spices, a nice crispy and charred casing, loaded up with mustard and sauteed onions and peppers. The bread itself was a nice white bread with a nice chewy exterior but soft in the middle that didn’t sog up(surprisingly), and complemented the sausage well. It’s a truck, so be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it! :D +Spicy Italian: D

I have to say at first I was skeptical, I’ve walked past it everyday and never have seen a line, but for some reason it was calling me. Today I decided to say ‘Yes!’ to fate. Fortune favors the bold and I have to say, this is a damn fine sausage. I got the sausage(spicy) and peppers on a hero. Most of the food around the area is chain-based and unremarkable. I don’t know if my digestive track could handle one of these tomorrow but it’s safe to say I will definitely be adding this into the rotation.

Small menu, but fantastic output! I see this cart often in the FiDi area and finally gave in today. It’s extremely hard to miss since it’s such a big truck, with it’s big bold letters. I read that there’s long lines during the lunchtime(as with many popular carts) and when I got here at 11:50 there were already about 7 people ahead of me! The fact Dominic works alone doesn’t move the line any quicker. The menu consists of just the Philly Cheesesteak and Sausage(Hot or Sweet) and Peppers on a hero. I can’t speak for the Philly, but the Sausage and Peppers were really good. Sausage was cooked, with a bit of a burnt, with a generous portion of peppers and onions on top. The hero was about 8 inches, a bit smaller than I was hoping, but it’s average. I was hoping for a foot-long at $ 7.50, but it was to be expected to not be that big. I’ve never had a bad experience with Sausage and Peppers so it’s hard to say this one tasted any different than any other I’ve ever had. If I had a stove at work and was allowed to cook, you better believe I’d make this too! and for alot less money! In closing, I can’t take anything away from Dominic, because the hero was what I expected(very good), but I honestly will say I can easily make this myself at home. He’s got a good thing going by making something very simple and profiting well off of it, so props to him.

Best sausages hands down. I have no idea where he gets the crack that he puts in the sausages but it’s quality product. The hot is better than the sweet which are both better than the cheesesteak which is good but not remarkable. I tried to go at least once a week. BTW…his name is John.

Dominic is a man who works sausages in superman speeds. «I’m quick but in no hurry,» he would say. The sausages he serves up is indeed very tasty. The Italian sausage with pepper, onion, bbq costed me $ 7.50, which I felt was a bit heavy. However, so was the sausage itself, filling my fatty stomach without trying. There are no other places in the Bowling Green area with sausages remotely close to Dom’s, so he has his own little empire down here and it shows in the daily line of followers and tourists. If you enjoy sausages and work around the area, Dominic is a no brainer. If you’re passing by or a curious tourist, there are many other options in the vicinity you can consider. Three stars for the value of food and taste. Four stars location adjusted.

Parked beneath my office window, Dominic’s was often hard to resist. Their menu is limited: hot/sweet sausage, cheesesteak or hotdogs; onions and/or peppers. The lines can get long at lunchtime, sometimes 15 – 20 minutes when they’re very busy. Calling ahead is a good idea. All of their sandwiches are large, more than a little greasy and very tasty. They’re also reasonably priced, less so if you go to one of the nearby trucks to fill-out your lunch with chips, etc. Dominic can be a bit gruff, usually in a good natured way. Having your order in-mind and your cash in-hand is advised. Note that he goes to considerable effort to assure that you’re not being served raw pork; this means two things. Trying to speed the grilling process will not be regarded favorably, and, expect that a portion of the sausage casing will be scortched– perhaps even charred.

HANDSDOWNBESTITALIANSAUSAGETRUCKIN FiDi! In NYC, there are Halal trucks on every corner and finding a truck that carries real sausage instead of Halal meat is rare find. The menu is simple, Hot Sausage, Sweet Sausage, Philly Cheesesteak. and grilled hot dogs. We are are talking serious quality for the sausage. We’re about the kind of quality you find at street fairs or festivals. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the cheesesteak, but then again keep in mind that you’re at Dominic’s Italian Sausage not Dominic’s Philly Cheesesteaks. By the way, looks like Fernando G. doesn’t know how to do his math. I order from Dominic’s about once a week and I have NEVER been charged extra for ordering by phone. Maybe the service charge was for Fernando being a pain in the ass and being indecisive about what he was going to order. The menu has 4 choices for Christ’s sake! Here’s some basic rules when ordering at Dominic’s: Rule 1: On a nice day the line can get really long, so call ahead and get you order in(917−769−7550). Rule 2: Do not even set foot on the line and consider ordering a cheesesteak. The owner’s name is John and he’s the best, but he’s scrappy and has no qualms about telling you to get the flunk off the his line. Personally, I didn’t even care for the cheesesteak anyway. Rule 3: When John calls out that he’s 86’d something, pay attention! Because if you get to the front of the line and order something that he just screamed that was out of, well … you’re going to get some guff for doing that.

There’s always a decent line at Dominic’s Italian Sausage truck, but I finally decided to wait it out since lines were shorter than usual with about 8 – 10 people in front of me. As I waited, I noticed that everyone was ordering either the hot or sweet sausage hero, with maybe one or two ordering the Philly Cheesesteak or a Knish($ 2). There was nothing much else to do, so as I waited, I watched the single chef prepare the heroes. Cleanliness may be a concern for some when eating from Dominic’s, while others expect some dirtiness when eating from food carts/trucks. During my wait, I noticed that after he unpackaged some uncooked sausages and threw it on the grill, and pushed down the garbage with his gloved hand, he did change his glove. But on the other end of the spectrum, he would sometimes handle money with both hands as he counted the cash and handed it to his customers. These would be the same two hands that he would be using to open the hero bread, and pick up and slice the sausages. Back to the story… I finally made it to the front of the line after ~20 minutes of waiting which I found a bit slow for a typical food cart/truck. But I will tell you one thing, that waiting is expected here since there is a sign that says: You can only choose between two types: good, cheap, fast If you want good and cheap, then it’s not going to be fast. If you want fast and cheap, then it’s not going to be good. If you want good and fast, then it’s not going to be cheap. I find this sign to be very true. I ordered a hot sausage hero($ 7) with grilled peppers and onions and some hot sauce. Watching him prep was entertaining, as he’d be moving hastily from one grill to the other, slicing the sausages lengthwise, stuffing it in the hero, and topping it off with some hot-off-the-grill peppers and onions; all in the meanwhile trying to make jokes about the long wait times, how everyone wants the hot sausage, and how the Wall Street people like to keep things hot. He also threw in a hot pepper that was sitting on the grill from a previous order which I didn’t mind(there are hot peppers sitting in a jar behind him that you can order by request). The 7″-8″ long hero was wrapped in aluminum foil, stuffed with 3 – 4 full-sized napkins and brown bagged. The cook and prep time seemed to be very fast, but I can’t quite pinpoint why it took so long for me to get to the front of the line. And now to all the yummy goodness. The hot sausage had some good blends of spices with a moderate amount of heat. I recommend requesting hot peppers to be added to your hero for those looking to amp up the heat. The onions and peppers were grilled to perfection in all its yummy oily goodness. He definitely got this simple sausage, onions, and peppers hero dialed down. I could definitely understand why people are willing to wait a bit longer for such a delicious hero.

Messy, smelly, and oh so delicious! A great mobile food vendor lunch choice in the lower financial district area — look for the large red and white truck parked on the west side of Whitehall Street. The line can be long and it moves slow which kinda sucks in cold weather. he really could use another employee in that truck, but it’s worth the wait anyway. Apparently you can call ahead and have your order ready, although i can’t imagine him stopping his rush of cooking just to answer his phone and take an order. Very good italian sausages — choose between hot or sweet. Lots of delicious fried peppers and onions and sauces thrown on top. He also has hotdogs which i haven’t tried and cheesesteaks which were good but the cheese was a weird type and it took longer because the meat had to be cooked whereas the sausages are hot and waiting to be served. As the sign in the truck states: Good, Cheap, Fast — pick two.
