As someone who can’t eat gluten, I’ve had an obsession for years with Dishes flourless spinach soufflé. Recently it seems to be more cheese than spinach though, and I wish it went back to the way it was… it’s still good, but no longer a slightly naughty cheesy meal, now it’s kinda like where did all the spinach and leeks go? I find myself trying to only eat them since they are already coated with an abundance of cheese.

I’ve eaten the usually very good and sometimes creative food from Dishes for years. Recently, though, the food handling and visibly unsanitary conditions have become too much to brush aside. I wanted the mudjadra(rice and lentils) but when I noticed a lot of chicken and other mystery meat from nearby containers sitting in the mudjadra, I had second thoughts. When I told the server, his solution was to use a serving spoon to mix the fallen meat products into the mudjadra so you couldn’t see them. Yikes. With all the sloppiness in service and cross-contamination, it’s probably safe to assume that there’s nothing truly vegetarian at this place. And this was frankly among the least of many gross things I’ve observed here. But it was enough to make me stop going… and enough to make me call 311 to report this and the loose sanitary standards they practice.

This place is truly awesome. Yes it is pricey but it’s Grand Central Market not $ 1.00 pizza. They have a great selection of fresh nicely prepared high end sandwiches, salads and entrees. Always crowded at lunch but if you go at 2PM it’s quick. I love going here for a quick lunch to take back to the office.

I love Grand Central market. I feel very lucky to be working in an area that lets me access this place on a daily basis. One of the stars of the market is Dishes At Home. It’s basically the«to go» version of the Dishes restaurant(which is not too far from the station itself). Dishes At Home has a wide variety of pre-prepared foods ranging from wild rice dishes to broccoli rabe to meatloaf. If you wanted to spend the cash, you could put together an entire meal, meat, veggies and carb sides in minutes. The two dishes I’ve had at erm… Dishes are their Wild Rice with garbanzo beans and Craisins and their Wheat berry mix with Craisins and mango. Both dishes are frankly super addicting. They taste wonderful and have a great texture. They balance sweet and savory perfectly and make a great lunch dish or side. I highly recommend them both! Service ranges from excellent to a bit spotty sometimes. If you get someone who’s experienced, you’re all set. Get someone green and you can expect to repeat your order several times over. Also, the prices can be a bit high here, but if you’re shopping in Grand Central Market you should expect that anyhow.

I was running late from work and expecting friends for dinner and a movie. I planned to cook for them but… decided to check out the market on the upper level at GCT(just in case) and I’m glad I discovered this place. I’ve bought food from Dishes several times since… Fresh, healthy and top-quality is what you’ll find. Well worth the expense. Much more diverse options than you’d get if you ordered delivery.
