The boyfriend and a friend came in here to kill some time since I was getting my nails done before our dinner plans. I met up with them afterwards and decided to get something to drink since we still had some time to kill. They didn’t have ice that day, which I think is really weird. They couldn’t have gone across the street to the bodega and gotten a bag of ice? I was really thirsty and wanted to chug something cold so having to get a hot drink was kind of a bummer. The latte I ordered was quite good — no complains here.

A large cappuccino = massive soup bowl full of caffeinated frothiness. I couldn’t sleep at night so I’m not sure it was the best idea to finish the drink, but it was frothy and big and worth the money. Came in here to kill some time before a reservation and ended up staying a while. Tight seating(but at least we got seats!) Unfortunately, the staff was very unfriendly and didn’t seem to want to be bothered by such things as taking orders or making drinks.

We were so happy when we found this place but the service seems to keep going downhill after our first visit. Our first time there, we were greeted by this European guy, who was very friendly and helpful, recommending the different drinks and pastries they offer. I was especially fond of the cute design he did for my latte. We had such a great experience, we decided this would be our new favorite coffee shop. We went back a couple of times but it just wasn’t the same anymore. Their other baristas were just rude and seemed like they didn’t want to be there. They looked at you like you were bothering them by giving them business. We’ll still go back for our coffee every once in a while, but we’ll take it to go, thank you.

Was disappointed by this spot that has the potential to be a great neighborhood coffee shop. Walked in shortly after opening on a Saturday morning to be greeted by a less-than-friendly barista. We were the only ones in the place, but he acted like he was doing us a huge favor by serving us. I ordered a latte, which for a bar named after espresso should have been tasty. But it wasn’t. By any stretch of the imagination. The espresso flavor was bitter at best. Burnt at worst. I don’t know if it’s the beans they use or the skill of the barista, but either way I was forced to dispose of my much-needed latte after just a few sips. I hate to say this, but d’espresso, if you can’t improve, you’ll find me at Starbucks the next time I need a latte.

I came in here to kill some time with a friend while waiting for our dinner reservation. It’s was quiet, and there’s a row a seating. The seating is in a row right in front of the door, so it can get pretty chilly as people come in and out. The staff wasn’t very attentive, and they spent most of the night huddled around a table talking and eating. Whenever a new customer walked in, they would looked around confused, and it would take a while for one of the staff members to realize and stand up. The only thing preventing me from giving d’espresso two stars is their Nutella hot chocolate which was delicious! It was sweet, and tasted just like Nutella. What I loved most about it was that it wasn’t so thick that my throat would feel uncomfortable after drinking. I also had a chocolate pastry that was passable, but it was nice that they warmed it up for me. I think I’d return for the hot chocolate, but I won’t be sticking around to hang out inside the shop.

i walked in with a friend at 7:20pm(well before the scheduled closing time of 11pm). people were drinking their coffees and happily chatting. barista was packing up some pastries. after standing at the counter for a few minutes, being ignored COMPLETELY, we ask«oh hey, are you guys closed now?» barista looks up at us as if we’ve just asked something like«is grass still green?» he responds«uh yeah, we’re closed.» doesn’t acknowledge us again. i respond«wow, what a douche.» we walk out. i know this is new york, but jesus christ. what a rude ass. fuck you, dude.

I went here to try their espresso. The barista was rude and dismissive, then pulled the shot into a paper cup. Clearly they have no interest in making a quality espresso. Unsurprisingly, the shot was bitter(it was also incredibly overpriced). Won’t be coming back here.

Their large soy latte saved my morning. The boy who works here is adorable. Next time I’m going for their large almond croissants.

Blah! This place gets a blah! Cramped, stuffy, hot and stuffy. All the tables are pushed so close to the couch that I really had to push them aways to sit comfortably. Lets break it down Pros + Decent coffee + Good location + Not very crowded(see cons below) Cons — No bike racks — Confusing reward touch screen tablet confuses the beejez out of people who use. But not me since I won’t be getting any points here — Seriously are all these tables set up for toddlers? — Its 64° and overcast why is it so hot and humid in here? — Loud r&b and rap does not make for a chill coffee shop ambiance. — They appeared to be out of quarters and nickels. — A small coffee is 2.80!!! Say What?! 12 ounces of coffee is almost 3 bucks?!

My experience: rude service and a disregard for quality of the product. I ordered an espresso from a tall, late-30s looking guy(possibly the owner). He started to pull the shot into a large paper cup, thereby ruining the espresso. I asked him to pull me another shot in a demitasse(there was a pile of them within view). He refused, saying«oh no, we’re not doing this. I’m making all drinks ‘to go’ today.» I told him that under those conditions I refused to pay. He said, «alright,» and I politely told him to take pride in his product before I walked out and had excellent espresso elsewhere(no need to fight for the demitasse, either).

A perfect afternoon: (1. Lunch at Little Muenster next door.) 2. A box of 6 macarons from Bisous Ciao, across the street. 3. A hot latte from D’Espresso. Eat and drink slowly. Watch the trees and sunlight. Watch other people who come into this place. Watch people walk around outside. Sit. Relax.(Also, don’t expect any Starbucks coffee crud or anything from here. If you order an espresso, you literally get a shot of espresso, the way espresso was meant to be served.) Breath.

Very good coffee! That’s all I had, so it’s all I can comment on! Also, it’s located across the street from Arlene’s Grocery, so come grab a coffee to sober up after the show!

Clean, modern décor encourages productivity. Friendly Barista was a bit overwhelmed by the spurts of customers. No chai available with no idea when the next batch will be coming in. Strong overpowering coffee. The website design is cool, but so useless(hours? menu? coffee info?).

Had a pretty good red eye here the other day. The space is tiny but is pretty cool except all with people with their Mac Books looking at you like why are you here. I would go back if I’m in the hood.

Just for the fun of it, I recently have been thumbing through various NYC tourist guidebooks to see what places are listed. I have just been curious to see where out of towners are being told they should go. Interestingly, d’espresso is in one of the majors, so I thought I’d better break my Starbucks habit and get around the corner to try it out. The cappuccino here does not measure up to Lavazza’s version at Eataly, but it is better than Starbucks and more convenient than either if you find yourself in the LES. They do not charge extra for soy, which is a very nice touch. My only complaint is that d’espresso does not open until 8am.

It’s a chilly Friday afternoon, when it should be spring but isn’t quite yet. I’m in need of a caffeine buzz after a particularly busy day working with children and adults who demand my time. I also have a bit of work to do before I can begin my weekend guilt-free, so I need connectivity. Enter d’espresso. I immediately notice: –bright, warm window seat in the corner(close to the plug-in outlet, I notice). –beautiful delicate and fat-laden pastries in a case. –danesi coffee –Mighty Leaf teas — which completely wins me over(as much of a coffee addict that I am, I love quality teas, and Mighty Leaf takes the cake). I later notice: –James Brown and other motown favorites perking up my spirits –real, live, actual newspapers for your(my) perusal –itty bitty biscotti in cookie jars on the counter I order some kind of heart-shaped shortbread jam-filled pretty yummy thing and a green tea tropical. I find my spot at the aforementioned bright spot, ask for the wifi password, and put in an hour or so of end-of-the-week work, sufficiently fueled by perfectly balanced amounts of caffeine, sunshine, and sugar. Let the weekend begin.

I have recently been trying to find different places for coffee around the city and outer boroughs instead of just sticking with my normal routine. Stumbled onto D’Espresso this morning. The space is very clean and well thought out, and not too packed. The large latte I had was unfortunately steamed poorly and bitter. At $ 4.90 for a large I found the quality to be lacking.

We stopped in here because it was really cold out, and we needed a warm spot to wait for a third party before heading in to The Meatball Shop. I wasn’t expecting much, and that’s what I got! It’s pretty sterile and blah in here, and the macchiato was passable, but not memorable. The service was alright, she made the drink– then went back to doing homework(nabbing one of the few seats/tables in the house). Next time I’m in search of coffee in the area, I’ll likely head to Blue Bird.
