Demetri Merianos, MD

We’re so happy to have found Dr. Merianos to perform the circumcision procedure for our 2 week old son!
What seems frightful and uncomfortable to even talk about for most parents, Dr. Demetri explains the procedure in great detail (he does over 250 a year) as he uses the most humane method of local anesthesia versus what other surgeons might suggest: general anesthesia aka come-​back-​when-​your-​kid-​is-​older-​than-​6-​months or no anesthesia
Basically our boy slept through the procedure. Doc and his nurse were really gentle and caring with our boy. All we had to do was apply the ointment we got from Doc during every diaper change. My boy’s circumcision healed in two days!
Couple of things to keep in mind:
— the consultation typically happens at the upper east side location (staff is extremely accommodating! loved the experience there) whereas the procedure is preferred to happen at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn (tends to be busy, tight rooms, but staff is fantastic)
— expect to book the consultation one week in advance, and have the circumcision performed at least 1 week later
— feed you boy just before the procedure so he’s happy and asleep
— baby is going to fuss a bit more than usual during the day after the circumcision, its normal, just keep with the regular feed/​sleep routine

Dr. Merianos is a wonderful surgeon. His interactions with our toddler were gentle and soothing; our son was immediately drawn to the Dr. He performed procedures on our toddler and our newborn, the results of which matched Dr merianos’ promise: no residual pain or discomfort. Esthetically they are perfect and they’ve healed up perfectly. His staff has been accommodating, especially Kim from his office. She and my wife have spoken several times and she’s gone out of her way for our boys.
Additionally, Dr Merianos made us feel comfortable in entrusting our 2 young sons in his care. He is the bomb with impeccable bedside manners.
