Deli Plus

Was literally running here for a quick bite before boarding my bus. Got a tasty salad to eat on the ‘olé Martz Bus, which totally got me through the mid-​afternoon hunger before a very large dinner in Scranton. Not a bad choice amidst a sea of bland chain cafes.

Overpriced is a common theme in the City. I come here mainly for the salad bar and an occasional ice cold beverage. I tend to splurge every once in a while by purchasing Poland Springs. Super expensive for something that’s healthy for you. I could only imagine what an artificially flavored beverage would run you.
Their salad bar is mediocre at best. Standard meats, cheeses, and toppings. Salads are $ 7.95 + tax if you don’t add anything extra besides four toppings including the meat. The lettuce they offer here is pretty standard, one size which is the small with your choice of Mesclun or Romaine.
I paid $ 8.66 (incl. taxes) for Mesclun, Cajun Chicken, Swiss, Corn, Cucumbers, and Croutons. Croutons are complimentary.

Total rip off. Didn’t expect much, but what I got was even less. Ordered a turkey sandwich with avacodo on wheat and actually got lettuce, cucumber and sprouts on white bread. No Turkey in sight! Didn’t find out until I was too far to Bring it back. It’s my own fault for going to a place like this, but at least I expected a crapy version of what I ordered. Run far away. There are other option right across the way.

What utter garbage!
This place is way over priced for food that isn’t fresh and mediocre at best. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese and it came with 3 TINY strips of bacon for $ 5.50?! Come on. They prey on those who don’t know any better.

Stopped by for a quick bite with a friend before hopping on the bus to a concert in NJ. I got the beef gyro and friend got the chicken gyro, both combo platter (which means fries and water/​soda included). I was satisfied with mine but friend’s chicken gyro wasn’t actually chicken… stuffed in the wrap were these tempura or some sort of tofu-​based strips. It looked nothing remotely like meat. The fries were essentialy unsalted so I suggest asking for extra ketchup, unless unsalted fries are your thing.
The staff were very friendly. The cook happily took our orders with a visible smile, which is rare to see imo. One of the cashiers (who was Asian) said Happy New Year in Cantonese to my friend (it was the third day of Chinese New Year) when she rang up her order. The only thing that drew a frown from me was that a lot of tables were left uncleaned, but it could also be because it’s Port Authority and people pass through the restaurant like a steady stream. Still, I would definitely visit again whenever I happen to be in Port Authority and need to grab a bite on the go.

Great Bagels! When im in the mood for a good NY bagel on my way to work i stop here and get it with scallion cream cheese toasted as I walk to the subway

I usually don’t buy food at Port Authority unless I’m going on a bus trip. However I was done outside and didn’t want to walk anymore in bitter cold. I was still hungry after lunch an hour and a half prior to passing by this place.
I went in to check out their soups. I chose a large yellow split pea soup. It came with bread which was a half of a plain bagel. The split pea soup did have carrot slices and celery pieces as well. Decent tasting soup. Not all pureed and still had some texture from the split peas which I like.

Quick, but not too good. Got the pastrami supreme – greasy and normal for a deli sandwich, although it was a little soggy. However, the sandwich was pretty expensive – more than $ 8 for something I could have made better at home.

My go to place for breakfast or lunch. Slightly expensive but not overboard. When I want to pay for food instead of bringing my own, this is my place. Pastrami sandwiches for me here are killer. I could eat those all day. Also their egg white omelets hit the spot too. Service is usually fast.

Just a whole lotta «Meh». It’s a faux deli spot to grab an overpriced sandwich to take on the bus. I don’t get it with the good reviews here, as this place is just borderline mediocre.
Grabbed a sandwich to eat on the bus while heading out to the Meadowlands Expo Center for a business event. Smoked turkey, avocado, lettuce on white bread. Total waste of $ 8 as the sandwich was kind of soggy and had no taste whatsoever. Bleech!
The place is big and has a lot of tables to sit at and watch the weirdos and degenerates walk by. Counter staff was ok. Just another dumpy food place in the armpit of Manhattan known as the Port Authority.

This is a convenient place to grab a bite to eat before heading on your commuter way. We were heading to DC on the Greyhound Express and just needed sandwiches to go. I got a grilled veggie sandwich and my fiancé got something involving roast beef I think. Both of us really enjoyed our sandwiches which I must admit I wasn’t expecting (I was just thinking, this is sustenance). I am not sure why I would have lower expectations but I guess it’s just because of the location.
The people who work there seem nice/​not miserable so that is also a plus. I would definitely go back here if in a similar situation. It was a little pricey once you count the bags of potato chips we also picked up but worth it for the convenience.

Yes I know it’s just PABT overpriced slop but it’s quick, convenient, and they are open late after theatre shows so to me it’s perfect late night before catching a bus home.

it’s pretty expensive to eat breakfast here (in general, maybe not for nyc though…) but when i do stop off on my way to work i get either a toasted blueberry muffin or a bacon egg & cheese bagel — both delicious! speedy and very eager service, almost too eager. can’t hate on that, though… they have a wide array of drinks in their many refrigerators but i find it quite unorthodox how they can have so much strawberry milk and vanilla milk and never any chocolate milk :(it’s also a good place to sit and read a book if you’ve got time to kill. i’ve done this many a times (sometimes without even buying anything) and they’ve never kicked me out…

In the crazy hustle and bustle that is the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, there is often little time for sitting down and enjoying anything really. There’s sparse public seating, so if you want a comfortable seat you must seek refuge in one of the many restaurants inside the terminal. One of those with the most amount of seating real estate is Deli Plus, located towards the back by the ticket area (near the post office).
Deli Plus is huge. There is a long counter that goes from the cashiers and drinks to baked goods, to sandwiches to a hot food section in a rough L shape. Almost the entire rest of the establishment is seating, which makes it quite appealing. Painted on the walls are artistic takes on the Times Square area. It’s kept clean and the tables look like they’re kept in relatively good shape. The crowd felt mostly like commuters, regular working joes like me so it’s definitely in my personal comfort zone.
I had just finished a workout and it was late, no time to wait until I got home to eat and I wanted something relatively healthy in sandwich form. My general fallback in these cases is a nice tuna sandwich. The name «Deli Plus» screamed «sandwiches» to me so there I went and I snagged myself a tuna sandwich on a 7 grain bread complete with red peppers, lettuce and shredded carrots. When I was rung up, I must confess to having a moment of sticker shock. My brain said something along the lines of «Does that say $ 7+?!» but in retrospect, nearby you can get a tuna sandwich for about $ 5 on 9^th avenue sure, but it doesn’t have the extra veggies and it’s just on regular white or whole wheat bread. Given the potential cost of having a business inside PABT, the price made a lot more sense.
All that said, I have to say the sandwich was quite good. The greens inside the sandwich were mixed greens (I’m sure I tasted some of the familiar peppery flavor of arugula) and the carrots and red peppers added some nice, bright flavor. The bread was wonderfully most, even the crust was just chewy enough to be pleasant. There were also tomatoes that added a bit of extra flavor punch. Overall, it’s probably one of the more robust «fast food» style tuna sandwiches I’ve had in my time and yes, I probably would get it again.
Another note — service is friendly and snappy here. No attitude, no gruffness. Everyone was very pleasant and efficient. Quite a welcome change from the usual in the area!

This place is right on my commuting path, so I, often times, stop in and pick up a smoothie for a refreshing mid-​day boost. Pineapple Paradise Smoothie: this is a very refreshing smoothie. The ground ice has a perfectly fine consistency; not so big as to linger in your mouth forever, and not so small as to be forgotten. It was a bit bland, however I suppose that’s de rigueur if the fruits aren’t in season. Regardless, it’s a great smoothie that I have enjoyed, a few times over.
