Wonderful service makes shopping a pleasure
I’d visited Talbots, Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic in a fruitless attempt to refresh my work wardrobe. Popped into Darryl’s on a Sunday afternoon thinking that it just wasn’t my day. An hour later emerged with two lovely dresses and an interesting suit. Once Darryl or his staff understand what you want, they can be relied upon to offer options that make sense. And they are honest about what doesn’t work.

TERRIBLE customer service!!! Went into the store for the very first time today to buy a pair of stockings that were in the display window. Sales clerk stood by as I struggled with an umbrella and a large box and didn’t budge at all to help open the door for me. When I was ready to pay, she then decided to wait on another customer who was supposedly trying «not to get a ticket». The other customer was not at all in a rush and 3 minutes later hadn’t even opened her purse. Meanwhile, my credit card was in my hand ready to go from the moment I stepped up to the register. (Incidentally, the other customer was spending $ 300 to my measly $ 18.) Thanks, but no thanks Darryl. Any shop who values one customer’s time over another’s does not deserve my business.

All I know is that my friends who have shopped here look GREAT — the apparel is eclectic but very fashionable, & reasonably priced. One friend really enjoyed the service she got from a staffer named Virginia — so I am on my way there to see Darryl’s NOW and will give a more detailed update after my OWN shopping adventure.
Ok, back from Darryl’s:
I bought 2 beautiful blouses here for $ 250 total, with tax. There were styles I could not have easily found elsewhere, and certainly very fashionable (my 2 blouses are private-​label couture, made in Italy and Canada).
My overall sense of this boutique’s strength is that attractive dresses rule the day — and indeed, media ad signage clips posted around Darryl’s seems to attest to this fact. I was not in the market for a dress, but I saw several ranging $ 99 (sales) to $ 300 that I would have loved to buy.
From a demographic perspective I would say that this shop caters very well to women of age 35 on up, with the styles appealing to mature women who want to look appropiately attractive/​sexy. There is a selection of Teenflo apparel and some other quite youthful clothing so I do think that particularly sophisticated young women in their 20s could find something fun to wear here, too.
The service at this store is helpful but not pushy, and you will not be knocked over by ill-​mannered fellow shoppers thanks to the relaxed boutique atmosphere and uncluttered, easy to navigate space.
The only element of viisit at which I was a bit disappointed was the Unilocaler discount which was extended to me;my other friends had mentioned a sale-​type percentage discount off their entire order, while I was given a $ 20 gift certificate toward my next visit.
I would recommend this store highly if you live on the Upper West Side and particularly if you are in a hurry to find need a knock-​out elegant little dress, or a dressy blouse. Darryl’s might have what you need amongst its classy and focused selection. There is a reason Darryl’s has been in business for 26 years!

I consistently find amazing things at this store. I love that it’s a neighborhood place, not a chain. I love that you get personal and personalized service. I love that even if you act like you don’t need help they give you your space at the beginning, and then when you’re in the trying on groove, they keep bringing in clothing for you to try. It’s not a hard sell. Just an honest effort to help you find something you like, that you look good in, that you will really wear. It’s a real find. I’m a loyal customer.

The 30% off for Unilocalers isn’t for all items. Bought a handbag and didn’t get a discount.
Also, they do seem to have a good amour of sizes, but the collection itself was nothing special

Darryl has an eye for affordable high fashion, and an amazing talent for making you look your best. I’ve been a groupie for at least 10 years, and Darryl never fails to put together a winning look. Just yesterday, I stopped in to get a jacket to match a dress. Something that would make it more «corporate,» without losing its style. Within seconds, Darryl presented me with the perfect jacket, and it was on sale. You can always count on Darryl.

I wear a size 12 and I had begun to think that fashion was something fun for others, but not for me. I went to Saks and their «large» was a size 8! They directed me to Salon Z, frumpy plus-​size things that started in the size 16 range.
Then, a friend told me about Darryl’s… Such a great store… real fashion that runs the size gamut… from smalls, up to maybe a size 16. I’ve honestly never had so many things to choose from!
And that’s not even the best part… which is the SERVICE! Darryl sizes up your figure and gently persuades you to try new things! I took his advice and added some interesting patterns and colors.
I feel totally great in everything I bought. Highly recommend this place… all ages… lots of sizes… fun experience!
