I have only good things to say about Sophia and Crown Worthy! She was extremely knowledgeable, professional, helpful, patient and kind. I went in for her trichologist services and she was able to shed light on all the different hair issues I’ve been experiencing. As soon as I sat in her chair, she knew what was going on. She also took the time to explain everything in detail and was willing to answer all my questions. I highly recommend her! You won’t be disappointed. This place is a gem.

I’ve been natural for a little over three years and have always depended on myself when it comes to taking care of my 4a/​4b hair (that includes washing, styling, and trimming). But after botching my last trim, and seeing what followed, which was my ends breaking off at a scary rate, I realized that a proper trim was necessary to continue seeing growth in my hair journey.
So, it was with trepidation and caution that I approached Sophia at Mane Advocates, with NO prior recommendation, just going off of what I’d read on Unilocal.But I can now happily say that I don’t plan on trusting anybody else with my hair as long as Sophia’s around!
I’d come to Sophia for a trim, blow out, and flat iron and she did all amazingly. My ends are beautiful, crisp and even. My hair shiny, sleek, and straight while still managing to have volume. I’ve never been so pleased with fresh-​out-​of-​the-​salon hair as I’ve been coming out of Sophia’s chair. Sophia was even nice enough to give me advice on how to pin curl my hair properly so that I could wear the style as long as I wanted, and she also followed up the next day, making sure I was still pleased as she gave me a list of the products she used that she thought my help with my hair goals.
Other pros: I arrived a little later than my scheduled time and was taken without ANY wait. I also arrived with my hair pretty tangled (I finger detangle, and my dead ends made it pretty impossible for me to detangle it properly that way) but Sophia got through it and was able to detangle my hair properly for styling.
All in all, the results were what I dreamed my hair could look like after all these years of being patient. Everyone around me is raving about my bouncy, & honestly, perfect looking hair (It doesn’t look real!), & with Sophia knowing how to do wet styles, dry styles, twists and twists outs, I just can’t see myself risking my hair with anyone else.

Sophia is a magician with giving me a painless relaxer. For someone who has suffered from sensitive scalp and near-​certain burning each time I got a normal relaxer, Sophia has been able to work wonders and nurse my scalp back to health. Sophia is a scalp specialist. Since I started going to her religiously almost three years ago, I will not able to go anywhere for my relaxer/​touch-​up. After seeing Sophia, my prior scalp burns, scabs and scars — symptoms of past perms gone wrong — are gone. My hair is also healthy and experiencing growth. You will have a set appointment time and not have to wait like you would at non-​appointment based salons. Sophia also gets to know her clients on a professional and personal level. You will definitely get your money’s worth. I highly recommend her.

I’ve had some breakage and damage to my hair over the years so I am very cautious about who handles my hair. I had a fantastic time with Sophia getting my hair relaxed, trimmed and blown-​out. High level of professionalism and I’m very happy with my results. Reassuring to know your hair is in the hands of a trichologist!

Went in for a relaxer touch up and received excellent service. Sophia listened to what I wanted and was very professional. Very gentle with the hair and very knowledgeable about different products. Salon was very nice and clean and I was seen right on time. Would definitely recommend.

I went to Sophia late 2009 for a straw set. She actually gave me a flexi-​rod set which gave the same effect. I loved her professionalism and efficiency. The style came out great for someone who was in the process of transitioning from relaxed to natural. I highly recommend her to the African American female seeking a stylist in the city. Sophia is a versatile hairstylist in the heart of Manhattan. In my experience I have had seen her do short, long and medium length hair with ease. Sophia does magic with her hair skills. I initially came to see Sophia for a weave consultation and I was completely amazed by her professionalism and knowledge regarding all aspects of hair. I felt at ease during the first consultation and decided to have full weave. The quality of hair Sophia recommended and the style she gave me were a perfect fit for my face. The salon is professional with a selection of wine, cold beverages, and snacks for its customers. Sophia doesn’t overbook or have you waiting for your scheduled appointment which is a big plus in my book! In addition to her talent Sophia also provides customers ways to maintain their healthy hair with recommendations regarding products and style techniques. Signature Styles by Sophia prices are also competitive with other salons. Sophia is a gem and I highly recommend her.

Sophia is hands-​down fantastic. Whenever i go to hair to get my hair down, I always receive tons of compliments! She really knows what she is doing and gives great tips to how you can either maintain healthy hair or repair damaged strands. I’ve gotten relaxers from her before and now, this new cut from her was a smash success! I’ve never been crazy about what my hair looks like after I go to the salon. Usually I’m just glad it’s been relaxed and I count down the days when I can wash and style it myself. But after going to Sophia, I always feel like a wish my hair could stay the way she does it forever! She takes the time to ask about your normal routine and gives tips and advice accordingly. I leave satisfied every time – she is HIGHLY recommended. She won’t disappoint.
