Cort Theatre

We went to the Cort to see Bright Star on April 7^th. After finding our seats we discovered that we had a slight problem with the layout (reasons why will not be disclosed). After speaking to the lovely manager there she allowed us to sit in one of the box seats instead. I’ve tried far and wide to find an email address in the last two months to thank her, however I cannot find one anywhere. So this will have to do. Thanks so very much for all your help that night and going out of the way for us. This could have easily ruined the night but it made it a wonderful experience instead. Thanks so much once again

I’ve been to this theatre multiple times. It’s gorgeous, of course, but my goodness… Those bathrooms are miserable. Most of the historic playhouses have crappy bathroom spaces, but this one is just sad.
Other than that, the seats are comfortable and there is decent legroom. The lobby and bar areas are super crowded during intermission.

Beautiful old theater that is decently maintained. Staff was helpful and refreshments were available.
However, it feels like there is no air conditioning. So the mezzanine is hot. And there are an insufficient number of restrooms for the standard intermission. For the mezzanine, the women’s restroom has two stalls. Therefore the intermission should be extended.

Small theatre but great spot. Easy in, easy out. If you get orchestra seats you can out of the show in under a minute after it’s over.
Strange there is no orchestra pit but for Bright Star they made it work. Oh and go see Bright Star. It’s excellent.

Small intimate older theater but the amazing feeling of being at a Broadway show. We saw Bright Star and it was amazing!!! A must see!
I was so happy with our seats, it was chilly so bring a coat or wrap. No photos or movement once the show begins and the ushers are everywhere which is great!
Restrooms upstairs are tiny and only 2 stalls.
Better to buy your tickets at the theater the day of.
Amazing little Cambodian Sandwich place next door.

We watched the «Bright Star» and it was incredible. We loved it!!! We’ll definitely come back if we travel to New York sometimes in the future.

I got snapped at by someone with a flashlight. snapping the damn light on and off quick for me to turn my dim phone light off before the production, second half began… click click click… click click click… click click click… click click click. If I was closer. I would have grabbed her damn click click click light and shoved it where she wouldn’t have been able to find it without the house lights going up.
Seats. tight. cool old theatre but crotchety click click click ushers.

When to see bright star a steve martin show. When you walk in your doing a time warp into the pass to what i think is a beautiful theater. With a beautiful chandelier hang over head. The only problem i had was seating. Very snug for a stocky guy like me. The show was great!!. Great performance by the cast and great singing. After the show the main cast was creat to meet outside saying hello to everyone.

Este es un muy agradable teatro, chiquito a comparación de otros, pero bastante pintoresco. No será el más moderno que puedan encontrar, pero así y todo resulta cómodo y se pueden apreciar las funciones con una buena vista desde cualquiera de sus ubicaciones.
La reseña es del teatro como espacio en sí, aunque siempre algo tiene que ver la suerte que tengas respecto a la obra que te toque presenciar. Yo –por suerte– tuve el placer de ver Fish in the Dark –la pieza teatral de Larry David– y debo decir que todo estuvo genial y será uno de esos días que quedarán en mi recuerdo.
En fin, el Cort Theatre es un espacio teatral más entre todos los que hay en Manhattan y la zona de Broadway, el cual no es la gran cosa, pero si un bonito y coqueto lugar que –depende la obra que haya en cartelera– vale la pena visitar.

I’m going to start bringing WD-​40 with me to these older theaters. The thing is, it’s not the flooring and the doors that were all that horribly creaky, that terrible distinction goes to The Winter Garden, which in all fairness is something more difficult to remedy. At the Cort, it’s the seats.
It could also be that the people behind us were just annoying in every way you could possibly be annoying in a theater. They talked. They had too many shopping bags. They crossed their legs and put their feet on you and your seat. And they never stopped moving. **CREAK SQUEAK**… it takes you right out of a show.
Other than that, the mezzanine seating is steep enough so that everyone has a great view. Plus, the acoustics are great. I’m 5’9″ and there was decent legroom and the seats are comfortable. It’s just that they are noisy. If someone from maintenance would go through the whole theater and tighten down or oil the seat hinges, it would make the theater experience here infinitely better.

This theaters has been the home of so many great shows. Larry david was last show here new show Sylvia a must if u are a dog nut. Older theater 3 levels. No bathroom on main level. They have rush tickets that are inexpensive.

This review is for the space and not the show I saw.
The theater is ok. It is charming but a little run down feeling. My biggest complaints and they are typical of any older theater is the lack of bathrooms and space between the rows.

First time at the Cort. Must have passed by hundreds of time. Went to see Fish in the Dark formerly starring Larry David and currently starring Jason Alexander. Great show! Surprise by the GF. There’s little lobby to speak of and the seats are typical of the uncomfortable Broadway seats found in virtually every Broadway theatre. Aesthetically however, the theatre looks charming with its three tiers and multiple balcony boxes. If it is the classic Broadway experience you seek then Cort Theatre is the venue for you

This is a cute little theatre right off of times square. It’s small and quaint, we sat in the Mezzanine for «Fish in the Dark» the seats were comfortable but there wasn’t very much leg room. My husband is 6’3 and I had his knees poking into me as he had to angle them to fit in the seat. I could see the entire stage and all the actors without any issues.
The line for the ladies room was ridiculously long, I left right at intermission and JUST made it back to my seat, and the line wasn’t THAT long. There are only three stalls and the ceilings were low.
Otherwise, it was a great show and my complaints didn’t dampen my theatre experience whatsoever. I would see a show here again if I had the opportunity.
Plus, you’re in Manhattan what’s better than that?!

A fairly intimate theater that though it seats over 1000, feels smaller. Even in the second to last row, the view was good and didn’t feel super far away. The staff isn’t as impatient as other theaters in the area which is refreshing. The restrooms are quite outdated and result in incredibly long intermission lines. I also don’t like the loud chewing snacks that are sold as they can be distracting during the show. Comfortable seats and good air conditioning in the summer.

Alright so Broadway NEVER had comfortable seats unless you are sitting in a private balcony seating. So considering that the seats here were pretty spacious. I was really impressed that my knees weren’t touching the seats in front of me.

For a large red wine. Boy do they make a killing at the theatre, next time I may have to sneak it into bag :)
The show SUCKED but can’t blame the theatre for that!
The tickets agents were nice and showed you to your seats. My issue was mostly that I wasn’t offered a playbook when I came in? What was that about?! Overall it is a small but good theatre and great that it is between Broadway and 6^th… So you can walk down 6^th and skip the traffic and people mess of Times Square!

I saw my first Broadway show at this theater. I came to see Fish in the Dark. It was a good play. I just have problems with the venue.
I sat in the back row of the theater. The mezzanine blocks the top half of the stage. Usually, this isn’t a problem. You can see the actors fine. But you can’t enjoy the whole set. Also, Fish in the Dark had tall displays that was part of the play. There was no way to see the top of the stage no matter how far down you duck.
The bathrooms weren’t clean and cramped; it could’ve been larger too. It’s just a cramped theater.

I’ve been to at least 4 other theaters on Broadway and thought this was a more intimate experience. My husband and I bought tickets last minute for Fish in the Dark and the seats were located in the balcony in the last row/​aisle. In other theaters, that would be a disaster, but at this one it was still a great seat. We didn’t miss a thing in the show.
Further, there is a bathroom right by the back row, so we had quick access at intermission (note: women’s restroom on that floor had only 2 tiny toilets, so a long line developed).
Also, I’m glad shows now allow you to bring drinks to your seats, as long as, they have a lid. They only had 1 white wine option and one red option, but they were decent wines. Plus, they let you get a double pour (yes, I partook).
Would definitely go back.

I’ve been to more ornate theaters, but the Cort is still quite pleasant. It’s nice and rather cozy and intimate. The seats are comfortable but the rows are rather close together.
The restrooms (well, the men’s room anyway) could be larger. There is often a line out the door.
Other than that, no complaints, and I would definitely see another show here.

I came here last week to see This Is Our Youth. I had balcony tickets and am happy to report that I could see the whole stage (and I was pretty far back). The seats were fairly comfortable and since they’re stadium style, even with a tall person in front of you, you could still see well.
I didn’t visit the bathrooms on the bottom floor, but the one at the balcony level is very small. There are 2 stalls and a sink and that’s it. You can fit 3 people in there only. You can’t even stand in the doorway because you may bump into someone coming out of the stall or the person at the sink. So the line for that bathroom can get pretty long.

Hopped off the plan, dropped our bags off at the hotel, and then went straight to Times Square and grabbed a couple of tickets to Cripple of Inishmaan at TKTS at the Cort. Our tickets, 50% off, were great seat towards the front in the mezzanine. The theatre is small so every seat in the house is pretty much a winner. Some are better than others, of course, but if you’re low on funds and get balcony seats you’re not going to be bummed. You’ll still get a great view.
The theatre is old but that’s part of its charm. The seats are relatively comfy although leg room is limited. The acoustics are GREAT and the sound carried wonderfully through the theatre. I had no trouble seeing or hearing anyone on stage.
The show itself was great and the theatre was lovely. A great way to kick off my theatre binge weekend in NYC!
