I agree with Unilocalers, Dr. Dong is excellent. I got my annual eye and contact exam done by her and the whole experience was seamless, even the admin part (thanks to Kathy). The environment is clean and conveniently located in Midtown a block away from Bryant Park.
I arrived on the dot for a 3:30 appointment and was seen literally right away. I was mid stoop about to take a seat in the reception when I was promptly whisked away for my exam. Awesome for new yorkers in a time crunch wanting to stay on schedule.
The exam itself was standard and straightforward: swap out binocular-​like eye tools and read (or me being blind, struggle to read) lines of letters projected on a wall. I think the thing that sets Dr. Dong apart is her willingness and ability to explain what she’s doing and why in language normal folks who aren’t eye experts can understand.
I ordered a supply of contact lenses and they were available the very next day for pick-​up. Love it.
The process of receiving a quote from Kathy was both painless, transparent and accurate. Super pleasant experience and definitely recommend.

All the paperwork you have to arrive early to fill out? All done online beforehand. I had barely finished checking in when I was whisked into an exam room and given a few preliminary tests by her assistant. Then I was told to sit in another exam room and that «Dr. Dong would be in in a minute.» It wasn’t a minute. It was like 30 seconds.
For the next half an hour I was given a very thorough eye exam, with every detail of what she was doing, and what was going on with my eyes laid out patiently and clearly.
Left feeling well-​examined, and that my prescription would be right on target. Plus, she took my VSP insurance. Fantastic!

Just went for my first eye exam (put it off for way too long). Dr. Dong’s office is less than a block from where I work and she takes my insurance. I am always a bit skeptical when I see so many only positive reviews on social media /​review sites but now that I have been I feel compelled to add my comments. And essentially it is all true. The office is well run, they were right on time, I was able to fill in my new patient form online in advance of my appt (hate filling out the long clipboard things while I sit in waiting rooms), and most importantly — Dr. Dong was courteous, professional and thorough. She explained what she was doing, did not appear rushed and was very welcoming. Her assistant (who did some of the pre-​testing stuff) was all of the above as well. I plan to go back to Dr. Dong for my annual eye exams from now on. There is no reason to hesitate going here.

We had an excellent experience getting my young daughter fitted for contact lenses here.
Dr. Dong immediately put my daughter at ease. The exam was extremely thorough. Dr. Dong explained everything she was doing and answered all of the many, many questions we had.
Her office staff is also first rate. They addressed all of our insurance issues and were upfront about all of the costs we would encounter. Her assistant worked very hard and was extremely patient in explaining how to properly insert and remove lenses.
We would highly recommend Dr. Dong’s practice.

I had a good experience going here for my first eye exam in decades.
They take VSP and handle the VSP billing, you just pay your copay and whatever goes above your VSP coverage. This is despite their business not being listed on the VSP site for some reason, at least not for me when I looked. I’m glad I called to confirm rather than just assuming they weren’t in that plan.
Dr Connie Dong was great and so was the staff who helped me pick out frames.

Dr. Dong is excellent.
She is very intelligent, courteous, experienced and her office is run very efficiently and is conveniently located in midtown (with a nice selection of frames too).
I just earlier had a very thorough dilated exam and plan on returning each year with my wife and referring all of my friends to see her as well for their regular checkup or if they have any eye issues they want addressed.

5 stars do not do Dr Dong justice; she deserves so much more than that. I am probably one of her newest patients and I cannot agree with all the reviews on this page more. She is professional, personable, knowledgeable, kind, and really good at her job. I have seen many optometrists over the years and she is clearly head and shoulders (and eyes!) above everyone else. Run, don’t walk, and make an appointment with her now!

Is it weird to say that this was my favorite eye exam of all eye exams? Well it was. Dr. Dong (no relation) is terrific, very thorough, friendly, and informative in communicating all the information I needed. I’ve gone to previous optometrists but none nearly as thorough (or kind) as Dr. Dong. Bonus: the front desk staff is also pleasant and helpful (which is kind of a rare gem in Manhattan).

I visited Dr. Dong last week and it was my first visit to an eye doctor in the US. I’ve to say that she’s one of the best doctors that I’ve ever met! My visit was for a regular eye check up plus a fitting for contact lens. Dr. Dong began by looking at my information online, and believe me, not all doctors do that even though they ask you to fill out the forms online. She is very thorough in her check up and she answered all of my questions. She’s friendly and professional. Thank you, Dr. Dong!

One would think that with 100% 5-​star reviews you are bound to be disappointed, right? WRONG. Dr. Dong is 10-​star. Her office staff is as well. And she’s now very conveniently located on 43^rd Street right in midtown. Friendly, consummate professional, caring, unbelievably responsive — all so true. I was out of town over the Holidays and, on a Saturday (when the Doc does not have office hours), found myself without lenses. No surprise, she was immediately responsive to my call and email, telling me how to get trial lenses and writing a very helpful email «script» that ensured that I could get them. (You need to have a matching script so it’s not so ez, but the Doc put down several choices; I don’t believe most others would make that effort.) She’s an incredible throwback to when doctors were all about their patients. Please tell me if you ever find another doctor who is anything like Dr. D. I’ve been lucky and have had generally good-​very good doctor experiences (with a few exceptions of course), but, there’s no one like Dr. D.

Dr. Dong is the ONLY optometrist that I have been to for over the past 15 years. Not only is she a consummate professional, she is highly personable and demonstrates genuine care for treating her patients. She clearly has gone above and beyond the call of duty in regards to my past treatments and I truly appreciate her professionalism and genuine personal care and concern. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Dong to anyone seeking a really good eye-​care professional.

Awesome experience!!! This was my first trip to an eye doctor. I waited no longer than five minutes for my appointment. Dr. Dong is super friendly and made me feel at ease. She answered all my questions and addresses all concerns in a professional manner.
The front desk staff were also helpful and didn’t seem miserable or rude — a definite plus and a rare thing!
Definitely will come back for future eye exams! :)

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Dong for over 15 years. Dr. Dong is simply exemplary in the way she treats her patients. Whenever my wife or I had issues with our eyes or needed an annual check up we were treated correctly with care and compassion. She is a fantastic doctor and we highly recommend her!

All the good reviews are warranted. It’s a rare treat when a doctor gives you the time of day, is open to questions, and eager to educate you about the very issues concerning you as a patient. Dr. Dong is thorough and easy to communicate with. Also, a professional, friendly staff in a pleasant office environment. I love when I can give unqualified recommendations to friends. I will happily refer people to Dr. Dong.

Dr. Dong was so patient and thorough. Her office is very clean and she has all new and updated equipment. She was very conscious of not making me get more than I needed (for instance, she said that she would not recommend that I get prescription sunglasses even though I was a little uncomfortable playing tennis while wearing regular sunglasses). Overall, a very positive experience and would highly recommend her.

As good as it gets is the perfect description for Dr. Dong and her staff. Dr. Dong is knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate, clear… a true expert. She always makes me feel 150% confident in her abilities and 150% clear on my eye health and how the years are changing my vision. I lost one of my contacts when I was on my trip to NYC, and they saved my eyesight! They were very kind, understanding and hospitable. They provided me another contact. If I resided in NYC, I would definitely make them my primary optometrist. I will always remember and appreciate their kindness.
