OK I’m old. I’m realizing that I’m returning to restaurants I went to years ago(thank you Unilocal) and I have zero recollection. Loved the ambiance of this spot. And the prices were hella reasonable. My fejoiada was tasty, if not a tad salty. But cool concept. And just plain fun!

Went this morning with a friend — the service was great(friendly hostess, nice waiter). While I would love to rate Coffee Shop higher, my oatmeal was cold(which meant it was a congealed consistency) and it took forever to get more water. The coffee was good though! Good for: brunch with friends

My waiter was great; friendly, attentive, prompt… And kinda cute. My coffee was what coffee should be. Dark, hot, black, rich, and unpretentious. Coffee, oh my one true love. You have been responsible for preventing me from being a convicted felon on more than one morning(I kid, it’s a metaphor for not being the biggest morning person. I’m really an awesome guy). I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Once of my favorite of classic staples of the bygone New York Diner. This was no joke, it was delicious; with one exception: the English Muffin. Now why would he give a low rating on account of an unassuming muffin? Because, It’s Eggs Benedict, which isn’t itself in the absence of the English Muffin. It would otherwise just be a slice of ham, a poached egg, and a bunch of sauce. My English Muffin was ridiculously tough. By tough I mean akin to chewing on a truck tire. I never send food back. I can count on less than one hand how many times I’ve sent food back in the past decade. Today was the day. I built a compliment sandwich. Place your complaint in between two good things. It usually works more in your favor that way. I told him I enjoyed my breakfast aside from the muffin. I asked to have it remade. His response was to tell me that they get this complaint a lot. That the muffin becomes tough when cooked, and this is characteristic of their choice of brand. Really? You’re trying to tell me that a muffin so tough that it’s inedible is acceptable because it is the brand you prefer? I concede; it was easy because aside from the muffin, I was thoroughly enjoying my meal. I asked for a knife. I was brought a steak knife. Even with a steak knife, and all of its food macerating qualities, the muffin was still difficult to cut. Now come on man, when I’m having trouble cutting a muffin with a steak knife; we need to revisit the choice in brand.

I had the Calamari Frito and the Deluxe Burger & my friend enjoyed the Spinach dish with something else. I forget. The only reason why I’m giving it a Four Star review is because of the noise and the long wait. I guess it all comes with territory when a place is so popular. Lots of people at the bar seeming as if they are waiting to be discovered. I hope they do get discovered one day. Perhaps it might be a little easier for me to quickly get a nice seat. I attended a late night party at the Coffee Shop ages ago with some friends from Italy. It was different the atmosphere was much more cozy. over all a good time was had by one and all.

Mixed Feelings, but the service was very good ! Having heard of this place once or twice before and seeing it had decent Unilocal reviews, a group of us decided to come here on Saturday night to celebrate a Birthday prior to going to a Fuerza Bruta show. For starters, we had a reservation and we did still end up waiting about just under 10 min or so before we were seated. Normally that’s no big deal, but it was in this case because we needed to make an 8:00 p.m. show . I wasn’t sure what to expect from the place, as Unilocalers called it a diner/bar/restaurant with servers who are models. It is actually pretty bland décor, and looks like a dimly lit diner that serves up drinks . The menu has way less of selection than what you would expect to see at a diner … but this isn’t your average diner though. Mostly everyone ordered the Coffee Shop burger, and the burger looked tasty and a good size, although for a burger it was pretty pricey imo, could have gotten just as good or even a burger better for less someplace else, but alas we realize this is Union Square. I can’t finish the review without praising our server, Camila, because she was very good and very gracious. She was understanding to our need to catch the show, and even though there was no way to avoid running late for the show if we actually wanted to eat our meals, she tried to get things to go as fast as possible. She was readily available, attentive, and on point. I did get a little annoyed that my Feiojada took way longer to come than the rest of the food, so everyone was chowing down their burgers while I stared… hungry and inpatient. I wasn’t able to finish it at the restaurant, and ended up taking it to go. However, it was delicious and I was glad that I ordered it. Also, their Caipirinhas were pretty tasty, although too much ice which occupies most of the glass . It was a fun experience and Camila was a great server and the food was good, but honestly I was underwhelmed and for the money we paid for a group of 6 of us, we could have gone someplace else with better food … although perhaps not in that area of the city.

It’s a union square landmark that still goes strong after decades. I was one of the first patrons and I still enjoy coming here minus the loudness . The food is mostly consistent. I love the cheese bread and the anytime breakfast . I liked our waitress/model/actress., I just wish they had more male waiters to mix it up like it used to be.

Good diner food. The quality and portions is exactly what you expect from this super popular restaurant. Came here for brunch and got the hamburger with herb fries. The burger was good, nothing amazing. I wasn’t expecting much since it doesnt advertise itself as a renowned burger joint or anything. The herb fries were really good though and the service was decent.

We had a nice quick, very late meal, and were thrilled to find the kitchen still open at 10:30pm on a Wednesday. I had the crab cake, which was large and rife with lump crab meat, drizzled with a tasty remoulade/aioli. Would have preferred a small salad to the corn/beans/onions sauté that accompanied it, but it was large overall for an appetizer portion. Husband had the fish sandwich — well assembled and tasty. I believe both were specials. Service was good and prompt. We’ll return when they have a free table and we’re looking for a quick(but not too quick) bite.

Finally got to go here after passing by for years & never getting to. I had a basic turkey burger and fries; food was good but I think the pricing is a tad much unless maybe you’re getting a special. I like the darkness of it and it had a more intimate feel, which are both great things(especially if you were on a date with someone). It’s right near Union Square and it seems they have some good operating hours. I’d come back.

Good spot for a bite in Union Square. I came here with a couple of friends for dinner the other night. This was my first time eating, as past experiences were in the Bar and Lounge sections of the restaurant. This place always draws a crowd so do not be offended if you have to wait for a table. Luckily, we timed it right and were seated immediately. Some people in the group ordered cocktails(margaritas and mojitos), which they found to be on the stronger side. Our food order started with splitting the cheese quesadillas — a solid choice! Plain and simple, but we were all happy with the outcome. I tried the barbeque chicken sandwich as my meal, and that too was enjoyable. Others tried the salmon, salad, and Cuban sandwich. They were all satisfied with their selections. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. Pricing was reasonable considering its location. It can get crowded and somewhat loud, but I thought that added to the experience rather than retracting from it. I would come back for a second meal, and I recommend checking it out if you are in the mood for something more casual.

The Coffeeshop offers Americana diner style food and a respite for tired feet. The prices are $ 10 for pancakes/french toast + $ 5 to add a healthy proportion of bacon. $ 12 – 15 burgers, wraps and other such things. Coffee $ 2, muffins $ 3. There’s ample room, a full service bar, a more private dining room in the back and an overall fun ambiance that makes you feel like you’re in the heart of the city.

We had reservations on a Saturday night and got there 45 minutes early… they were kind enough to seat us early! And it was pretty busy. The guacamole and chips were both freshly made. It was a nice size appetizer. I got the crab cake appetizer which was both delicious and more than enough as a meal! Pasta, meat balls and soup were also ordered. Each was good. The staff was attentive but we never felt rushed. I like the combination of tables, booths and coffee shop counter seating. Nice spot!

Checked in on Unilocal and received a «50% off an appetizer» offer. Ordered an appetizer and forgot to redeem this lol still upset that happened. Anyway this place has gotten better I’m guessing. Reviews stated that the staff are just pretty much models who don’t speak which means that their service skills suck. My service was great though. Like too good to the point I thought maybe they really considered those bad Unilocal reviews and told themselves«we need to change». The food was good too. I had the crab benedict and this may be because I was starving or something but I was damn near licking the plate. The didn’t even have to put my dish in the dishwasher. The hollandaise sauce was so good. I also tried the fried coconut shrimp which was delicious. Of course brunch is never completed without some alcohol so I spoiled myself with a mango mojito as well. The drinks are freshly made here and very, very, good. Longer story shorter… I’ll come back here.

Food: Ok Service: Good Ambience: Good The entire experience here was just OK nothing too egregious and nothing glorious. Which is truly a shame given their amazing location in Union Square. Walked in on late Saturday afternoon and the place was moderately busy and we were a bigger party 7 people so it took them sometime seat us. The food was nothing great just left me unimpressed. The service was adequate. The best thing about this place is that you can sit outside when the weather is nice and people watch. Overall too much money to pay for an ok experience. Will not be back.

So before I begin, let me state for the record this rating and review does not affect my decision to come back. I’ll be back soon. I give my SERVERS that took care of me and my friend the 5 stars THEY deserve. This one star goes to their douchebag of a manager, KLAUBERPINTO!!! I may not have modelesque looks or a vagina for that matter… But when I check in to your establishment and then see your place is offering a deal for checking in, know that I’m taking their deal!!! The catch? Buy two entrees and get an appetizer for 50% off. Fine. I wanted guacamole and chips because it was, in our opinion, their best appetizer on the menu and the most expensive. Why NOT take advantage of it? I tell our server our order and then show them the Unilocal deal and then goes to tell their manager. KLAUBER then comes and asks to see the Unilocal deal. He stares at it for literally a minute(as if thinking long and hard about it was going to cover up the fact that your face looked annoyed I even showed the Unilocal deal to you) and says he needs to verify the deal. Now, KLAUBER, what you DON’T know is that I looked right at you the entire time you were going to «verify the deal with management» and then proceeded to chat with with your male host of the evening as well as a pretty female patron. Then, you’re going to have the nerve to tell me and my friend that«you spoke to the owner of this establishment and say he wasn’t aware of the Unilocal deal. You couldn’t even look at us in our eyes as you said that and then walked away. No apologies and no remorse!!! I call BULL****!!! You call yourself a manager and didn’t even make a half-a**ed attempt to verify with ANYONE. Why would Unilocal advertise something about your establishment without letting the owner know first??? Tell me that. I also call you a sexist manager because I read your body language and we were two FEMALE Asian women, we be treated differently. To end this, I hope you could sleep at night knowing you made some of your servers look extremely stupid all because you didn’t want to honor a $ 6VALID discount. Kudos to you, KLAUBERPINTO!!! You ARE the 2015 douchebag Manager of the Year!!! Meanwhile, back at our table, our favorite dish was the guacamole and chips because the guacamole was so fresh and so tasty. The food? Its okay. It’s really pricey which is why I come here for light fare and chit chat surrounded by beautiful people. Will I come back? Yes. To hopefully be served by the severs that took care of us last night. But KLAUBER can takes several seats… AWAYFROMMEANDANYONETHAT ‘S ACCOMPANYINGME!!!

Came by this place because it was on the list for cheap eats in the city and let me tell you, it is NOT cheap. It’s good though so worth spending your money :) Got seated right away as there are plenty of seats both outdoors and indoors and our waitress got us situated in a timely manner. I didn’t feel rushed and service wasn’t slow either. She was always around to help us out if we needed her. It’s nice to be outside watching people since union square is a popular spot. I also saw a few people here dining alone and if I was bold enough, I would definitely do that too. Seems like a nice place to unwind, have a drink while observing people. I got the shrimp baiano, a brazilian specialty and I would recommend it to anyone who came by. I think it’s one of their signature dishes because I saw a few other people getting it too. Even though there are only a few pieces of shrimp, each one is huge so it’ll keep you full. Wish there was more sauce because the sauce is the star. I love coconut so the subtle taste of coconut mixed in with my shrimp and garlic was soo yummy. I also really enjoyed the fried plantains sprinkled with some kind of cajun seasoning. YUM

My friend suggested checking this place out for lunch this past Sunday. I had low expectations, considering the mixed reviews here on Unilocal, but was pleasantly surprised. We arrived at 1pm and were seated right away in their outdoor seating area. The weather was beautiful and a parade was marching into Union Square. Perfect day to be eating outside! I ordered a crabcake egg benedict(which was listed on a separate paper and not in the actual menu) The crabcake was tasty, with the outside crispy and the inside not too dense or heavy. I hate it when there is too much filler in my crabcakes and not enough actual crab meat. The crabcake tasted even better with the egg yolk oozing through it. Yum! My friend ordered huevos rancheros, which she enjoyed. She’s a vegetarian and sometimes it can be difficult to find tasty meat-free dishes in NYC. We both finished our plates and left in high spirits and full stomachs. I’m surprised this place has only 3-stars. I think the Coffee Shop is a solid restaurant with tasty food and located in a very nice location. Service was not bad; we didn’t have trouble flagging down our server whenever we needed anything. 3.5 stars for the food and an additional 0.5 star for the A+ location. Will definitely visit again!

It’s a classic diner but with a Brazilian flair, All the servers are models, they’re tall and they’re fair. Good service and live music the morning I went, And after a night of drinking, the food was heaven sent. The ‘Hangover Sandwich’ lived up to its name, But the poached-eggs-arepa made me glad that I came.
