For my WOC, this is a salon you will feel welcome in whether you’re rocking your natural hair, relaxed hair, a weave or extensions. I have been going natural for a few years now(keratin treatments, flat ironing, twists, braids), and I cannot stand when stylists imply that I need to put a relaxer in my hair so it’s «good» and«not nappy». Where dey do dat at?! Not here! Woo-hoo! The staff is nice and I like the crowd(which ranges from small children to elderly women). The ladies here will finish you off looking and feeling fabulous, and the prices are not too bad. The only con is that their marketing can get a bit spammy and annoying, so try to avoid sharing your email if you can or just unsubscribe as soon as humanly possible. ;)

Some of these reviews sound real personal!!! Unwarranted degrading and hate… I don’t care if you go to a hair appt or doctor office… At time you will have to wait… Things happen… And when it comes to a women’s hair you can’t put a time on the service and quality you give!!! I have gone several times and I’m TRULY satisfied!!! I don’t expect to spend all day in the salon but HONESTLY I don’t go to the salon expecting to come out in a few hours… If I’m done in a few hours more than likely I’m not SATISFIED with the service!!! Lol I always get wonderful customer service including food and drinks… I love going there bc I get what I ask for not what the stylist wants to give me… Or the only style the stylist can do… I travel way from Manhattan for my appts… And trust me it’s worth the time!!!

I was super satifsfied with my experience at Cocoa Mane. This was my first time going to a salon in years so I was terrified. Terrified for 2 reasons. I went natural over 12 yrs ago and was used to my only styles being braids. I feared my tresses were untameable and second was price. Ive seen some ridiculous reviews on line, so that did not ease my fears. From the door, Janel was very professional and down to earth. I did wait a few hrs to get my hair done but who doesn’t at any salon or doctors office. To me thats a sign that the person is invaluable. So I’m preparing for my wedding and bridesmaid hairdos and wanted to try her out yesterday. They more than tamed my natural hair. Products were also top notch, not that cheap sh!£ This salon may be all the salon I need to see. They do it all, braids, weaves, natural hair, barber. There official. Janel is an artist and is very good at what she does. Mad Skillz.

Love this salon! I first encountered Janel & Cocoa Mane while attending a natural hair seminar held here over the summer. I visited the salon as a client when I was ready to have my natural hair straightened and have not been able to stay away since then! The salon has a very warm and welcoming feel which is always a plus. Janel is extremely easy to talk to and offers tons of hair care education. She is friendly, yet professional and her assistants and staff follow her lead(Love having my hair washed by Ronnette or Nikki). My natural hair has been doing great in its straightened state — no dryness, breakage, nothing. I tend to make appointments during the week in the evenings about 5⁄5:30ish and am out in good time(and even right in; and right out on a few occasions). Glad that I finally found a hair care home!!!

I was a client of Janel’s about 7 years ago and thought I’d schedule an appt to do my hair. When scheduling an appt for 5pm I knew I’d leave at 1am, but didn’t mind because I was very happy with her work and the prices($ 150 got a full head weave), now… not so much. To wash, braid, and weave is $ 300+ depending on the style not including tax or tip(hair not included). The staff, besides the stylists(2 others and a barber) are a bunch of high school seniors whom aren’t welcoming or friendly. Plus there’s never an actual person ever at the reception desk to assist you. There’s no real set business hours for the salon, it’s open or closed on random days so you have to call ahead, and even when calling ahead to schedule your appt you’re never seen in a timely manner and out of the salon at a decent hour. I went for a wash and set that took 5 hrs :-/and I’m 7 months pregnant. It’s incredibly ghetto and filthy, the high schooler who was suppose to blow out my hair ate McDonald’s, didn’t wash her hands and continued to wash and set others hair(not mine, she couldn’t touch my hair with greasy salted fingers). There’s almost always mounds of hair on the floor, packages of the hair on the floor, dirty towels, garbage cans overflowing or garbage bags right in front of the reception desk, and drinks all over the hair stations. But the one thing that really irritated me was you aren’t asked about the service, your recent appt, a follow up appt or even offered a cup of water for goodness sake(so bring food otherwise you’ll starve in the amount of time you spend there). Needless to say I won’t be returning to this establishment ever again, although Janel is an amazing stylist, she’s hardly ever there unless it’s a quick in and out styling for clients, meanwhile her lack luster staff is not capable of running her business properly.

I think after a second unsuccessful attempt to make an appointment, this review is 100% warranted. The customer service is typical hood at best. The staff was not polite or welcoming and they surely were not interested in scheduling an appointment for me. So the hunt for a new salon in Brooklyn continues!

I just had my hair done to today by Monique. It was really a good experience. She explained everything she was doing to my hair and equally listened to me about my hair issues. She also offered a tip about a conditioner and shampoo, I could use on my own. When she cut and styled my hair(I always wear it short), I was really happy with it. Not to mention, Monique is the nicest person and salon has a good vibe. I would definitely go back. Thanks Monique for great experience!!!

THEBESTSALONEVER!!! I’m not even exxagerating, this is hands down the best salon I ever been to. I can be picky at times, but when I walk in here, I absolutely have no worries because I know without a doubt I will leave looking like a million bucks! I’ve had hair cuts, trims, coloring, highlights, sew-ins, tracks, washes and styles and they all came out great! The salon is beautiful and has a LA feel, but completely comfortable. If you are searching for a salon home, this is a great choice!

Its a salon that offers a high end quality salon without the ridiculous price. Be prepared to spend some time in there but it will not be time wasted. I had the pleasure of Monique doing my hair and shes not there just to take your money. She will explain to you from start to finish what is the right hair products and ways to care for your hair and don’t go to her looking for a generic hair magazine hairstyle because you wont get it She customizes the hairstyle to fit the person as well as their lifestyle. She has a customer for life in me

Janel is definitely one of the best hair stylists ever. This shop is a beautiful hidden gem located in the flatbush section of brooklyn ny. Upon entering this fabulous brightly lit shop you’ll be greeted by the receptionist and the most friendly talented hair stylists around. Janel(the shops owner) runs a beautiful business. Complete with hair, products for sale, a barber, a dread specialist, a make up artist and other talented artists. Cocoa mane has a fun funky but down to earth vibe. They do absolutely everything from basic wash and sets to coloring your hair, extensions, perms, brazilian keratin treatment, weaves(the best around that lasts!!), dreads, braids, mens hair and much more. The prices are a little more than flatbush is used to but remember, you definitely get what you pay for, Give them a try and tell them Tanisha sent you! Trust you won’t be disappointed!
