The hours at this place are already terrible. Basically makes it impossible to go before or after work. So I went during my lunch break and saw a sign up that said«back in 10 minutes.» I waited there for 15 minutes and nobody came. Another woman came as well and she left. Guess I’m not going to bother going back here again. You can’t just randomly close during the day when your hours are so awful.

The owner is a liar who will rip you off and cheat you into hiring him. Don’t ever go here if you don’t want to be annoyed. I wish this place’s license be revoked soon.

Clinton is an institution. Every other storefront up and down this part of Amsterdam has changed over the last 35 years. Columbia U. tore down half of the buildings for towers. People have changed, too. But Clinton hasn’t. People complain they’re too tough. That’s why they’re still here. Places like this matter.

I’ve lived near this store for over 30 years and I just don’t know why people are having such a problem. It’s one of my go-to hardware places because they usually have what I need. I’ve bought various items and had keys made, and have never had an issue with these guys.

The owner was extremely rude to me, and quoted me over $ 600 for an air conditioner for a 325 sq ft apartment. Against my wish, my boyfriend went there to get some tools and supplies, and came home equally irritated. I will gladly walk blocks and/or pay shipping before I give a penny to this shop.

Convenient location close to Teachers College where you can buy things for your apartment. They have dish racks, pots and pans, light bulbs, door racks, mats, etc. Not necessarily the cheapest prices, but when you’re lazy, it’s worth the 1.5 block walk.

These guys are quite possibly the rudest, most unhelpful, obnoxious people I have ever come across. They will overcharge you by at least 30−40% and then try to scam you on insanely overpriced installation charges without making them clear to you. If you try to argue with them, they’ll pull the whole New York tough guy thing on you and literally yell at you in their shop. They’ll adopt a hard sell approach and start writing you down for your purchase even before you’ve had time to think. If I could, i would give many many negative stars here because they are literally the worst people I have met in New York. Do whatever you can to avoid this place, walk a few blocks, buy online go anywhere but here, they don’t deserve to interact with dignified humans.

If I could give negative stars i would… I have never written a review(although use Unilocal frequently) but my horrible experiences at this place all year have driven me to write this review. The guys that work here are RUDE, the tough-guy-new-york-attitude to a new level that is condescending and obnoxious. Not only that they are WAY overpriced. All the hardware store a couple blocks down on Broadway have nicer employees and better prices. They are able to charge so much because of their convenient location, but my advice, walk a few blocks away for a MUCH better experience.

This is where I get crap for my apartment. No, not furniture. Not art. Crap. Y’know. Random, usually, but not necessarily cleaning-related … crap. Shower curtain. Toilet brush. Ajax. Swiffer. Rubber gloves. Mop. Dish rack. Giant sponges. So, you ask why I get this crap here? Well, you’ve got a point. Like all these local«hardware» shops(apartment-ware bunkers is more like it) they are typically overpriced and I’m sure Clinton Supply is no different. But, you know what?! Quite frankly I don’t feel like searching all over Manhattan for the best deal on a freakin’ plunger. Not only that, but these guys seem to always have exactly what I’m looking for. And if that wasn’t enough, the 2 guys that are always there whenever I’ve gone in remind me of Paul Jr. and Paul Sr.(… if you happen to be a quirky, oddball fan of the show American Chopper, like I am). Don’t you know, motorcycles are dangerous?! Then again, I guess a plunger in the wrong hands could be dangerous too.
