Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Wonderful church. When in the area we go to this church. It’s beautiful and not too far from Central Park.

This is a great little church in Hell’s Kitchen’s neighborhood. I needed some spiritual time so I went to the 11:00am mass this past Sunday. It was in Spanish but I didn’t care — thought to myself, «God is God». I was really moved with the spiritual vibe during that mass. I didn’t understand much because of the language barrier but the feeling i got was exhilarating and the music ensemble was quite good. 3 guitar players and 5 singers. Very uplifting. It was one of the best masses I have attended in a long while. The inside of the church was decorated nicely; not gaudy. The priest was very gracious and blessed me as I left. I would have given it 5-​stars but the round window in the back of the church was bricked up. I like a nice round stained glass window in a church.

I was here for one of my best friend’s weddings. Never set foot in a Catholic Church before, however it was a cultural learning experience and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and the ceremony itself. If anyone has thought about doing a ceremony here, DO IT! It can fit at least 100 people comfortable for a wedding here. If you plan on taking good photo’s do not sit near the main aisle, lol

If you like a traditional, yet very warm mass, this is the place. I moved to NYC in early December 2010 and every mass here is a little gift from above. Make time to go, its worth it.

The church in Lorenzo Carcaterra’s controversial and supposedly autobiographical book, «Sleepers,» where the parish priest supposedly perjured himself to allow two parishioners to take revenge on a prison guard who abused them in juvie prison. Sacred Heart denies it ever happened.
Otherwise, this is more or less your run-​of-​the-​mill Catholic parish church.
